It's a joke to know what is happening on the court with too cool for school Ron Callan calling the game. He cannot finish the description of what is happening, until he is on to the next call. " Oh, now there's a foul at mid-court on the Beavs" What? Just unacceptable, horrible job of announcing.

Beavs have scored 2 points since halftime with under 5 minutes to go in the game.

Went to zone and forgot how to rebound.

We need a Mik-like player to help close out games for us like this one.

Random thoughts: Where do you start. One player in double figures. Bigs in foul trouble. Hillmon is a beast for Michigan.
Disappointing performance all around, never got untracked for the most part. A lot of work to do. Notre Dame is going to be tougher.

Not a bad effort on D. Just couldn't get untracked on offense. 52 points ain't gonna get it done.
We are a young team. Had 3 freshmen and a sophomore on the floor in crunch-time. Kennedy, even at 10 points and 12 rebounds still doesn't look in the groove yet. I think that'll come. Nothing like getting smacked in the face to get your attention.
UM won this one on toughness. They shot 32.8% to our 34.6%.

Number of games the Beav WBB team (or most D-1 teams) win in a season with: < 35% FG, 24 PF, 23 TO, 12 Assists = ZERO. Hopefully when the season is much further along, this game will simply be looked back on as a stinker. (though Michigan was similar in most of the above numbers)

Hey they hung in there with the #12 team and are hopefully figuring things out. Definitely some work to do. Didn’t see or listen but followed the play by play on the app.

There are some teams in the Pac-12 who know who they are that are playing cupcakes. That is why the likes of CAL as an example is undefeated so far. If anything playing quality helps the fans keep their feet on the ground. Reset expectations and the like and shows the team what they need to work on.

Pretty rough game, but will be a nice learning experience for the future.
Our youth and inexperience, particularly at the guard position, was evident throughout much of the game. Talia continues to really struggle with turnovers as she had five tonight. Greta made some "freshman" plays throughout the game. Michigan is a pretty veteran team relying on four seniors and a junior. Not to harp, but this team really misses a guard like Goforth who can consistently get to the rim and finish.
I did, however, think we played hard and competed throughout the game. Aside from the last few minutes (when we went zone), the defense and rebounding was really good. Michigan was a physical team and OSU responded physically, though at times it cost us some silly fouls.
Tomorrow will be another big test. Will be interesting to see how OSU responds.

Notre Dame had 4 players with 35 or more minutes today in OT loss. And (at least today) used a much slimmer bench than the Beavs do - only 6 players with > 5 minutes. Games on consecutive days are a bit unusual for teams like the Beaves and the Irish. Should be interesting.

I was going to just listen on the radio, but then realized Mike Parker doesn't call women's basketball :-). He is the master of painting a word picture of the action, and Ron Callan provides a lot of enthusiasm, but doesn't really provide me with a good verbal visualization of the action. To that end, and especially given the few-and-far-between games at home in December made it possible to stomach the FloHoops highway robbery rates.....
Who am I kidding? My wife asked "are we not going to *watch* the games?" with that tone of voice that 28 years of marriage alerted me to the fact that it would be a marriage limiting move if I didn't sign us up post haste......and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the resolution of the streaming.
OK - my comments...... The Michigan coach really had an excellent game plan - push us off our spots. That made us very uncomfortable, and sped us up, where we rushed everything and seemingly missed everything. I have to remember we have become very young: it showed in Greta getting pushed around a bit, and AJ not understanding time (that foul 2 seconds before halftime.....). TVO is trying to fill Aleah's shoes, and Aleah (you don't just land up as an assistant at Duke without some serious mental basketball acumen) had big shoes. We can also see the downside of the transfer portal - while you can import seniors and seasoned players, they don't have the years of experience in the system. But I think Coach SR needs to dumb down the BLOBs a bit - they all seem to take 4.5 seconds to execute on a good day, and that aforementioned Michigan coach pushing us off our spots made them take 5.5 seconds.......imposing your will on Cal Baptist and Cal Bakersfield does not translate into imposing your will on a well-rounded top-10 team. With the experience level on the floor, SR might ponder a "relief valve" role on the BLOBs after 1-2 seconds. KB is not mentally where she needs to be confidence wise - her early FT shooting showed that. This team might not be able to afford a 6'6" version of Gabbie Hanson (where teams would basically not even guard her on the offensive side, though felt her presence in spades on the defensive side). Jalena needs to be reminded she is a big. We lost out on a lot of 50-50 balls - not one of Taya's best games rebounding. But that just serves to remind me that we are still recovering from losing Mik's rebounding prowess. We also need to find out who the finishers are on this team, and where we can look for the best chance of a bucket on a dribble drive.
Losing to a top-10 veteran laden team might turn out to be a good learning experience for this team - this kind of game has paid dividends for us in years past with SR teams. But I will end with an observation that I am not sure time will cure.....because it is a coaching observation. We really, really miss Brian Holsinger and especially Katie Faulkner. It is like we switched to decaffeinated coffee in the coaching department. Perhaps Devan and Jenny are still getting comfortable with showing off their fiery competitive nature, but they literally never left their seats during the game. Contrast that with Katie - I would lose weight just watching her antics on the bench, and she injected a crap ton of energy into the game. Usually you have to calm teams down for big games like this one, it felt like we needed someone to pump them up, and I fear that person is now pumping up the Huskies.
There is a lot of talent on this team, and we will learn a lot from how they come out and play against Notre Dame, but from what I caught waiting for our game to start today they look like a dangerous team......
Go Beavers!!!

Go Beavers!!! Says something about expectations for Taya when 11 rebounds is “not one of (her) best games rebounding”. Taya has played in 93 games so far in her OSU career. She’s had more than 11 rebounds in just 5 games.

I thought Kennedy played tough on both ends. Taylor in typical foul trouble. The guards showed their youth. Taya needs to get into the mix somehow on the offensive end. Her defense and rebounding are solid. Tea was pretty good, but just had to play too much. And I think Ellie can do more.
They will be fine, but will take a few lumps along the way. Probably a year or two (or three) away.
