That's one viewpoint. Another might be that we should then also do away with Mother's Day, Father's Day, Father Christmas (in England), calling priests father and some nuns mother, fatherland, motherland, the first two words of the Lord's Prayer, and so on. Almost everybody loses their parents at some point. While it's certainly harder when you're a teenager, it's something we all face. I fail to see why an enjoyable, bonding event for many, many fathers and their children should be discontinued for the sake of the very few. But this has naught to do with women's hoops, so let's move on. "But this has naught to do with women's hoops, so let's move on." Your post didn't get quite the reception you had hoped for? Not at all. I just thought we were starting to drift way off topic, and suggested that we move away from the Dad's weekend topic and get back on point. Now I'll suggest it again.

anyway.....AZ is playing Texas Southern right now, 5:30 start time, not very competitive but I'm watching to see how AZ is working out it's lack of point guard issue. Side note: Cynthia Cooper is the coach of Texas Southern.

Side note: Cynthia Cooper is the coach of Texas Southern. They went 12 deep in Q1. Looks like Adia is treating this like an exhibition game more or less.
Vonleh looks good again. She didn't play at all against Louisville, they really tightened up the rotation for that game.

Side note: Cynthia Cooper is the coach of Texas Southern. Honestly, why do so many good teams (including the Beavers) schedule these horribly mismatched games? This kind of game seems pointless, worthless, and a waste of time for all involved. Seems to me AZ et. al. would learn more just by playing the male scrubs often used in practice scrimmages. "I'm watching to see how AZ is working out it's lack of point guard issue." Really? I don't see how AZ and observers are learning anything from this game or the dozens of others just like it.

Yeah, it is too much of a mismatch to learn much, but, dozens of coaches across the country schedule these games, I'm thinking they know more than we do, have their reasons, keep doing it year after year. You don't have to watch them !

Arizona went 15 deep tonight. Against Louisville they played 10, and 1 only 1 minute, another 9 minutes. 13 players got 12 or more minutes tonight. So obviously, the reason coaches schedule games like this is to get players some court time.

You don't have to watch them ! I changed the channel and watched CNN after the first 6 minutes of the game (mid 1st quarter). Only checked ESPN website for the final score. Didn't even look at the boxscore or anything else.

I've never had a big problem with the Beavs non-conference schedule. The competition this season may be too weak, but playing Michigan and Notre Dame is enough stiff competition to help the team get ready for Pac-12 play. If anything, I would like to see a few more home games.
As far as the Beavs, Arizona, and every other team playing weak teams this time of year, here's comments from SR after the first game. Our weakness is "time together" "every mistake was the result of lack of experience" "we're learning the best way to use them" (the players) "no more Aleah" which puts Talia in a new role "This team has a lot of starters. We didn't even make a final decision on the starting lineup until that morning. We can go a verity of ways with our starting lineup----probably will as we go" It seems obvious that teams play weaker opponents so they can get that 'time together", work their way through 'their weakness' and to 'learn the best way to use their players' without suffering a number of losses while the team figures out who they are and how individual players can best be used on the court.
Much like last season, this team needs some time to work in all the new pieces and see how they all fit together. As much as I am a huge fan of Talia, it still scares me that she is so inexperienced at this level. Having Tea and Emily is a big benefit for her, but even they are new to this system.

Utah is murdering St. Mary's 49-15 at the half. Slow start for the Utes, only 18 in Q1. They got going after that. Starters haven't even played much, getting plenty of help from the bench. This looks like night and day different from last year's edition.
Another completely empty gym for a home game. What is going on in SLC?

Didn't Utah start like house on fire early on a couple of years ago, and then fade when conference play started?

Didn't Utah start like house on fire early on a couple of years ago, and then fade when conference play started? They were pretty good til about midpoint of conference, then absolutely fell apart. I think that was Megan Huff's Sr. year. She got hurt, and they never recovered. I think Dre'una Edwards might've got hurt the same year.
