I believe that WWU is a pretty short squad . One player at 6’3” and no one else over 5’10”

Mack and Mitrovic had very nice games. AJ and Greta look like players, but also looked like freshmen at times. They got themselves open for some good shots that they seemed just a bit anxious on. Talia looked rusty in the first half but much better in the second.
Biggest ovation of the day was for Mikayla Pivec, introduced at midcourt halfway through the second quarter.
Jones and Mitrovic each 2/2 at the free throw line. Think we had 9 blocks.

These thoughts are obviously to be taken with a grain of salt as this opponent was nowhere near a Pac-12 level team.
With how much preseason hype Jelena received, I thought the biggest surprise was Emily. She plays like a senior and has the ability to score in traffic, but what stood out to me was her defense. Although not the quickest, I think she will be able to affect some shots with her length and provide very solid guard play throughout her year at OSU.
Jelena- you can tell her mobility has improved and she has reached a new level of physical fitness. She will be a big shot blocker for the Beavs and could develop into a serious offensive threat, both on the block and from range. She also had a couple of nice passes from the high post.
Both Talia and Kennedy struggled early on, but there’s no doubt they will be difference makers this season. Talia seems to be a bit quicker and Kennedy has such a defensive presence.
Taylor got us going early and should have another All-Pac-12 season. She utilizes her length exceptionally well and I think having Kennedy back will take a lot of defensive pressure off her shoulders.
Ellie and Taya continued their solid play at the 3/4. Ellie had a particularly good game, and my guess is that she will fill the stat sheet a bit more than Taya. But as we know, Taya does a lot for the team that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. They’ll most likely be sharing minutes all year.
Tea will be a good backup for Talia. She handles the ball well and was able to drive to the hoop a few times. Although, this will be more difficult to do against taller, more athletic conference opponents. Regardless, it’s always nice to have a backup PG with experience.
Greta and AJ played like freshmen, but you can tell that they have a ton of potential. They can shoot, drive, defend, and they also have length. I’m excited to see how they develop over the course of their careers.
We got off to a slow start, but I’m extremely glad I made the trip down to Corvallis. All this depth will make for a fun season. The question is, who will emerge as the real leaders of the team? GO BEAVS!

Need to keep improving and we will. Guards look a little slow, especially against non-pac athletes.

They didn't announce attendance numbers but there was a good sized crowd for an exhibition game. Emily and Teá are seniors and they played like it. Teá will be a good change of pace from TVO. Emily is a solid wing. Greta, AJ, and TVO are freshmen and they played like it. Experience will make each of them much better.

Guard, Greta K: 8 rebounds - while Mikayla no doubt watched approvingly.

Noticed that Taylor’s shoulder is still bothering her. The trainer did some work on it mid game. I was impressed by Ellie Mack’s game, showing more confidence and toughness.

My takes-
Last year the Beav's had sub-par years in rebounding and perimeter defense. The Beav's rebounding was at the 63rd percentile and they are usually in the 90's.
In this game I was destressed by the number of 50/50 balls that ended up in the wrong hands, but in general this years guards are much better at getting in the right place to grab the rebound, so I'm hopeful. This is important as demonstrated last year when the Beav's only lost one game when the won the rebound battle and almost lost all of their games when they did not.
Last year the Beav's were in the 6th percentile in defending the 3. They are usually 70-90th percentile. I think last year the problem was mostly That the Freshman guards got lost on who they were supposed to be chasing and there were too many open 3's. Unfortunately with a whole new slate of guards this problem seems to be continuing this year. But with a real preseason we can hope that they can get things straightened out.
The standout with the freshman was AJ's defense, when she was on the right person that is. Also as mentioned Greta seems to know what a rebound is and how to go after it.
For the transfers Codding has the knack of getting herself in the right place to get a rebound and also isn't afraid to shoot and so far is doing a good job of doing it. Adams was doing a good job of being a floor general and helping point out to the Frosh where they were supposed to be on the court. Adams layups were a bit of a head scratcher as some of them ended up on the wrong side of the board.
Browns rustiness got her frustrated a couple of times.
Mit's physical improvement really helped on her defense and general mobility.

Looked like a bit under 2,000 at the game. Can't say there was a lot of excitement or energy in the stands.

For those of us who couldn't be there. Thanks for the updates from those who were able to watch the action. I was expecting at least a box score from the OSU site, but we didn't even get that.

I hope to see all 12 players available play. Starters will probably be Taylor, Kennedy, Taya, Greta, and Talia as mentioned above. Jalena will be heathy and much improved. AJ will be a surprise. Jo will also be healthy and playing above the level she showed at wsu. Ellie will share the 3 with Taya. Emily and Teá will show that they can play at this level. Noelle will make at least one 3 OK so I didn't do that great, my orange colored glasses are to blame. All 12 played Emily started in place of Greta, now that I see her play I might have called this one, or not Jalena was more mobile and much improved against opponents much smaller than her. She is a huge presence on D as long as her person wasn't shooting 3's. She is thinner but looks bigger. AJ surprised me in where she carries her weight, her legs are definitely strong. Makes sense with her springs. Missed it entirely on Jo Ellie shared the 3 with Taya but also played a lot of the 4 and even the 5 a few times. Emily and Teá showed that they can play at a high level. They definitely act like seniors who have seen and done everything. Noelle didn't shoot at all. However, she was better than last year. She played well enough on offense but her defense was where she was most improved. Less deer in the headlights and more knowing who she was on and staying with them. A long ways to go but headed the right direction. I was right on a few and missed several but I prefer to look on the positive side and those missed were on the best case scenario.
