So, I am really cool with the fact that the Oregon Ducks are live streaming their exhibition game on Saturday, Nov6, but the OSU Beavers are not. In fact, OSU apparently won't even cover the game on the radio. How cool is that!!? This is a super way to bring fans aboard the Beaver express. Why isn't the student station KBVR 88.7 FM broadcasting the game and have a pdx station pick up the feed? Ucks had their exhibition covered by their student station radio station and meshed it with their livestream for the first game of the year. You could pick it up online. Cal did not have anything for their exhibition but Arizona did.
Their student station even covers all softball games. Why not?
This is from the ucks student station website:
Broadcasting Oregon Ducks football, volleyball, soccer and softball live on 88.1 FM, the KWVA Sports department is present at nearly every Oregon sporting event. The department recently added coverage of Northwest Christian University basketball to its flagship programming. On this main page, you’ll find everything the sports department has to offer: detailed game and feature stories, in-depth talk shows, and live events. I consider myself a pretty passionate OSU WBB fan. I think my posts here would bear that out. But I just can't get that worked up over a non-counting exhibition. Speaking only for myself, you understand. Looking forward to the first real game - and the season with much anticipation. The funny thing is, I even enjoyed watching the gals play in Italy a couple years ago. I think a number of other folks on this board did too. No, I would not have been "worked up" if I had missed these games too, but they sure were fun to watch! Same would be true on Saturday if I could see the exhibition game. I think some of us would even enjoy watching a scrimmage on a rainy day. But yes, everyone is different.

One thing I haven't seen discussed, and maybe it needs it's own thread. With the changes on staff: Are there changes to game plans? O or D sets and philosophies? Substitution patterns? Thoughts? I don't think a change in staff would drive much change in offense and defense. It is much more likely that changes in personnel drive such changes. When new players come along that have skills that weren't available on the previous team (or players develop new skills) there will likely be changes to incorporate them. For instance, if A.J. really has an effective pull-up jumper, we may see plays run just for her. If Jelena is more capable around the basket this year, we may go to her more often. With Jelena in, we may see her at the high post to utilize her passing skills to feed Kennedy and Taylor down low.

thanks for keeping us up-to-date with that other team’s minutiae. Why some don't think parents and potential recruits have an opportunity to tune in is beyond me. If Stanford, UCLA's and Arizona schools live stream and cover all games then why can't it be done here? You don't even have to pay the students to do it but sometimes the effort is just not there.
It is the Cal's and Wash. State that there are no expectations to ever do this, why follow them? Good grief CAL! Why be against streaming an exhibition. Stanford even covers swimming and track on there student radio. Yes, swimming at Stanford! Maybe it will wake marketing up? We know you don't really care about the game at all because you said it was an just an "exhibition". Some apparently do here and will be out in force.

I think some of you are more upset about this than the parents and potential recruits probably are. It’s an exhibition game. Basically a glorified practice against an opponent.

Those other schools have very well funded media programs. KBVR barely exists with little support and funding.

He started 2 freshmen as front court players with Kennedy and Taylor, so I don't think he'll be reluctant to start 2 in the backcourt. Talia is more like a sophman or freshomore anyway, and Greta was a McDonald's All American. Presumably, her basic prowess is greater than Tea's, but she doesn't have the D1 experience. I think Scott will give her the opportunity to gain it as a starter. If she struggles initially, he can easily change that and bring her in off the bench for a while. I'm sure he discusses such things with all the players. One other thing. I'm sure the staff, while trying as always to get the most out of this year, is also keeping one eye looking toward next year. They have a chance to come into that year with 4 experienced players (Taylor, Kennedy, Talia, and Greta) holding down 4 of the starting spots. They're going to want to get Greta as much experience as they can this year, including as a starter. Coach will definitely start two freshman when necessary. If Kennedy and Taylor didn't start, the other option was Maddie, Janessa, or Patricia Morris. Kennedy and Taylor had the added benefit of playing in Italy as well. I'm hoping two freshman start today. This is going to be a win no matter who starts so there should be no worries in that regard. No matter who starts today, the minutes will most likely be divided evenly anyway. I doubt anyone plays more than 22 minutes. Coach has a lot more options on who starts this year in comparison to who started when Kennedy and Taylor arrived. Next year, the Beavs will bring in two of their highest recruits ever, but I doubt they both start from game one. I just hope this year's players find the best role for them. This team has a real shot at being tough to beat come tourney time, and the next few years are looking bright.

I'm curious as to why folks think Taya will be moved from the 4, where she has played her entire life, and moved to the 3 to replace Mack? Mack and Taya were statistically almost identical last year. And doing this so a player who has been out almost two years due to injury? I think the chances of that happening are basically zero.
Baring injury the starting lineup will be Jones, Corosdale, Mack, Greta and Talia. Anything else would be an indication that something isn't working out right and a bad sign for the season.
What's the point of having a neck if you don't stick it out once in a while.

Yes it's an exhibition game, but....it's the first game fans can attend and I'd greatly appreciate any bits of video or commentary attendees can offer, thanks in advance. We will know in a few mins who was right and who should be embarrassed for life on guessing the starting five wrong.

Honestly, although some do have strong opinions, I don't think there is an easy choice on who the starting 5 will be, especially since we haven't heard much from fall practice. There is a lot of talent that I think is fairly equal. Nice depth on this team.
Saying that, I've stuck with my original "way to early starting 5" even though I think playing minutes may be as much from the bench as it is from the starters. These first few games will tell who is ready to step up their game. I'm hoping it's everyone.

They both happened to start and basically had a duplicate skill set. I really hope both aren't starting this season.
