The MAAC will require all athletes, coaches and staff to be vaccinated to participate this year. All the members are private schools, so I suspect that makes the requirement easier to enforce. It's also a low mid-major, but I suspect we'll see other conference adopting similar rules in the near future. Financially, schools need complete seasons from their athletic teams this year and this is a good way to help make increasingly sure that happens. Understanding that competition in intercollegiate athletics is a high-risk activity, the MAAC requires student-athletes and athletic personnel (including game officials and table staffs) to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Student-athletes and athletic personnel can apply for a waiver
from the vaccination requirement for medical or religious reasons only.
In other words, "I don't want to" won't be a valid reason for a waiver. maacsports.com/documents/2021/8/9//MAACResumptionofAthleticCompetitionPrinciples_2021_08_09.pdf

OSU players have to be vaccinated to attend OSU, and I think Cali has that rule for their state schools too.

And I have heard of people getting the medical exemption by claiming bad reactions to the first dose, and I can imagine that, with the right doc, anything could be an exemption.

Many of the MAAC schools are associated with the mainstream Catholic church; some Franciscan, some Jesuit, some Vincentian, some Laurentian. Not sure they have anything in their teaching that would enable someone to make a specific religious exemption.

And a link to a Q and A sheet that provides enough waffling to feed a firehouse crew its breakfast. Q & A It’s pretty evident that they want to say don’t get it, but they obviously cannot. Granted, not a lot of Catholics really follow the Church’s rulings carefully or consistently.

OSU players have to be vaccinated to attend OSU, and I think Cali has that rule for their state schools too. Not really, OSU is allowing exemptions for "medical and non-medical" reasons ("for a religious or philosophical belief that does not agree with the COVID-19 vaccination policy"). Just like every other organization I've seen that is "requiring" vaccinations. So let's not puff our chest too much about OSU's policy. Just leaves me feeling like my biggest clothing bill for the rest of my life is going to be for masks, sigh. Might try to sneak around for a booster shot.......not really, yet

"I don't want it" is not a philosophical belief. Get a shot, snowflake.

Did their "religious beliefs" cause them to refrain from taking vaccines for; Small pox, measles, malaria, poliomyelitis, rubella, diptheria, whooping cough, mumps, tetanus, etc.........? Doubt it. Get the damn vaccine, and mask UP so we can get THROUGH this damn thing. Oh, and for all you, "masks aren't effective in preventing viruses.....," folks; ask yourself, "why has influenza NOT been an issue, this year?" Why, indeed. Easy answer. Masks, dammit.

So much bigoted rhetoric in this thread. I completely agree with the message...just not how it is being delivered. Oh well. I'm sure y'all feel better.

Not sure they have anything in their teaching that would enable someone to make a specific religious exemption. Being associated with the Catholic Church doesn't mean much. Most Catholic colleges are more than willing to take people from all religions. There can easily be people attending Catholic colleges who may have religious reasons not to be vaccinated.

I forgot about that song. Wasn't there an episode of Taxi in which a heartbroken Danny DeVito was signing "Feelings" over and over? May I ask? WHAT would a religious reason be for NOT taking a vaccine? Not cultural or political. Religious. I appreciate anyone answering, and it begs the question I posed earlier; (paraphrased) did they have the SAME objections to the aforementioned vaccines? Thank you
