Biggest situation with Taya is offensively. At 6\3 she has never developed any post moves with her very strong body. So development is her issue. She either never had time to learn post up fundamentals or nobody cared to teach her. Raises a question to me about development. Just watch timea who is 6/3 kid in high school coming here. She is a post up nite mare for teams. I say why cant Taya be taught that?puzzling to me and maybe a bit to her?

Kennedy was an outstanding defensive player before her injury, but never got going on the offensive end. She started slowly, and then seemed to press and force her offense after that. So she never had that breakout game that a freshman needs. (By way of comparison, somewhat, what happens if that first 3 point shot Talia had attempted had been an air ball instead of going in? We'll never know, of course, but her development in that handful of games might have been quite different.)
But Kennedy is 2 years older now, a junior by age. She will have acquired a better understanding of the D1 game, and obviously will have worked on her offense. I think she's going to come into the season with determination and confidence, and will, early on against less formidable opposition, look to take more high percentage shots from down low, and thus build that confidence even more.
Let's also not lose sight of the fact that Kennedy and Taylor were both freshmen in 2019. With 2 years more maturity, they could combine to be a very, very productive front court tandem.
Oh, rebounding? Let's also not lose sight of the fact that Mik was an absolute anomaly at that. She not only out-rebounded everyone on the 2019 team, she out-rebounded everybody in Oregon State history, no matter their height or their position on the floor! Our team rebounding fell off last year; I expect it to improve with Kennedy's return.
Greatly looking forward to the first game!

Not Kennedy unless her game improves dramatically. Only 6 ppg, 37% shooting (not good for a big), and was outrebounded by little Pivec. She also showed a lot of diffidence in her shooting and missed a lot of gimme's. I'm sure she wants to be a leader, but she needs a huge step forward this year to be seen as one.... Are you kidding about the rebounding? Pivec outrebounded everybody else on the team, because she was a beast. Brown was 2nd in rebounding average, ahead of Jones. That is really not the thing to be nitpicking about. I'm flattered that you appreciate the subtle humor in my comparison to "little Pivec". But let's try to ignore my minor success at being funny and appreciate my main point. Ms. Brown needs to show a dramatic performance improvement to be the team's leader. You can't have a leader who underperforms. "Lead by example", "Set a high standard", and "Have confidence" are some of the listed requirements of a leader which she failed to manifest as a freshman who scored 6 ppg and shot 37%, and this year she will compared to teammates tempered by an extra year's experience. She also may be hampered by lingering effects of her injury. I fully expect her game to have improved substantially since a full season's layoff and time to ruminate are bound to yield benefits, but she played in only 10 of 19 Pac-12 games in her shortened season and missed both trips to the once great state of California. I sincerely hope the comments of insiders who predict that she will lead the team this year are correct. If so, then fans are in for a real treat and a good shot at a league championship. (We'll need to see some special magic to shut down Stanford's Brink upstart and the Prince of Ducks.)

I really dislike these types of predictions regarding specific players . This year and next will be critical to TOTAL TEAM success ! I don't care who leads in scoring, rebounds, or anything else . We need all those on the floor, and subbing in and out, to bring their best game , every minute they are on the floor. If we focus on 1,2, or 3 players to get the job done - we become easier to defend and less effective in every facet of the game. Outplaying another team ( especially in the PAC 12 ), will require certain players , at certain positions , to step up their game and do things the competition is not expecting! So, I don't care who does what , I only care that we are prepared and execute winning basketball . Go BEAVERS !

Yeah, I read all of these extrapolations from a 30 second fragmentary practice video with detachment. I’m not going to worry about recruiting or practice - that’s what our highly successful head coach and his well paid staff get paid to do. There’ll be plenty of time for comments in the late fall when they put their product out on the floor for paying customers. That’s just for me. Not trying to tell anyone else what or when to post or not to post.

I am one of the paying customers and cannot wait to see the product on the floor . There will be some nice surprises from the team this year - because I see a little more depth, length and speed - along with several great options at point . This team is poised to wreak havoc through the PAC 12 season and during pot- season ! Really hope that Delta does not impact our lives .... Go Beavers !

Let me clarify what I said a little bit. I do believe that Kennedy could develop into a "my year, my team" player, but I don't think it's going to happen this year. I'm thinking a year or two down the road. Don't really know who that person will be this year, but they won't be quite ready for the role whoever they are.
Why not? That's where the 'my year' part comes in. Ideally, you want it to be a senior with tons of experience and who has already proven her worth - like McDonald at Arizona last year. Whoever steps up for us will be like McDonald alright, but like her as a sophomore - very good, but not at the level she was as a senior.
That's a lot of what is meant when referring to a team as 'young,' and we are. I don't think grad transfers can normally fill that role, as they're in a new system and didn't earn their stripes with this team, but elsewhere.
So I think we'll have some moments this year where we flounder and it looks like nobody wants to step up and try to get it done. But, although we're going to be very good, this is a building year for us while we line up solid class after solid class.
The following year, though, is when it all starts to really come together. You'll have Taya as a senior (maybe?), Taylor and Kennedy as juniors, Greta, Talia, AJ, and Jelena as sophomores, and Timea, Raegan, Adlee, and Lily as freshmen. You can then see the continuum taking shape, with one talented class graduating, the 2 behind them ready to step up and fill their roles, and the 2 behind them paying their dues, learning the system, and waiting their turn.
Having 2 terrific recruiting classes in a row raises us up a notch or two going forward, particularly when they include top 10 recruits like Timea and Raegan. Similar level recruits, like Van Lith, who we would ultimately lose out on before, will now take a much closer look at us. I think we'll recruit very well for 2023 as well, and the future looks very, very bright.
I think I strayed away from my original topic quite a bit. Sorry about that.

If she's healthy I see Kennedy as a lock-down player.
