I suppose he goes.
Two of the three guys we've had picked were the current staff JUCO transfers. Interesting.

A couple familiar names have been selected.
Tim Tawa of Stanford to Arizona in the 11th. Oregon kid, I always thought he would have been better than how he played at Stanford.
Chad Stevens of Portland to Houston in the 11th. He played two years for the Knights and was on two championship teams. Good player.
Starting to see more evidence of how we overachieved this year. Only one draftee so far among the players recruited pre-Canham, the upperclassmen who should be the backbone of your team.

Surprised Burns went ahead of Fritsch. Maybe signability. Burns was frustrating to watch, he'd look so good one day, then God-awful the next time. He could never throw strikes with any consistency. Cheap sign, low/high-A roster-filler who you hope develops. Two picks from being Mr. Irrelevant.
Another name I saw, Dennis Boatman, RHP to Cincy in the 17th from Sacramento City College. He was a UCLA signee who pitched for the Knights and had a big arm but had no idea where the ball was going. Same high school as Steven Nogosek, another ex-Knight who was Oregon's big reliever several years ago who seems to have plateaued in the Mets' organization at triple-A after an MLB cup o' Joe in 2019.

Burns ahead of Frisch is 100% about signability

It’s not really something I expected, but I guess it’s hard to get great players who are willing to sit and wait for their turns behind first round guys.

Admittedly we were stacked in 17-18, but we also did not recruit especially well.

Did we not recruit well? Or did we not develop well? I have not been a Beaver follower as long as many on this board so I'm not sure of the answer but did the Casey, Bailey, Yeskie group ever get accused during their tenure of not recruiting well?

I too am wondering about player development. I really expected Claunch and Ober to be the studs of the team this past year, but they continued to show inconsistency at the plate. I don’t really know how to read it or explain it. I guess time will tell.

Of the players with more than 100 ab's, Claunch led the team with a .305 ba. while playing the most physically demanding position. If he was inconsistent, where does that leave the rest?

Claunch was sizzling hot over for several weeks later in the season, and I was impressed by his defensive improvement. I don’t know how much his first game, hand injury had to do with the early season problems, but I would take his last half of the season.

He was certainly on an upward trajectory during the last month of the season. In the last five PAC12 series his BA was .413 (26 for 63). 45 catchers were drafted, including 37 either JC or 4-yr college. I thought that he might get picked in Rounds 15-20. So.... does he sign a 20K free agent deal...or come back?

Otherwise, it's catcher crunch city on that team right now and again the coaches are going to have to work really hard to keep people together with all the competition in numbers.
