By his teammates. As a sign of affection and respect. I don't think the poster in question is using that nickname as a sign of respect. Nor was he a teammate. It's straight snark. I did not play ball with Mitchy Slick, although I have been told that I bear a passing resemblance to Dallas Buck, which I am pretty sure is not a complement. Mitchy Slick is about four years younger than me. I have a good friend, who was on the 2007 and 2008 teams and have a second (or third?) cousin who was on the 2006-2008 teams. I don't know Slick, but he is an awesome guy from what I have heard. I do not use Mitchy Slick as a sign of disrespect at all. Mitchy Slick was an awesome catcher and an all-around great guy, who had to deal with a lot in his first 25 years. To see him doing so well is great. He is a much better guy as a person than say a Nate Yeskie from what I have heard. But I worry that Nate Yeskie is a better recruiter, developer and coach of pitchers. His loss cannot be overstated. I hate losing close games. Something was wrong this year. I am hoping that Mitchy Slick gets the ship righted. I am very pleased with the caliber of players that Mitchy Slick is recruiting. I still worry about developing and managing pitchers, though. We are all rooting for the same team. Now that we are here, I want Mitchy Slick to succeed. I still remain concerned that Scott Barnes messed this one up. You should not worry about Nate. It will bear out in time. You are also giving way to much credit to Nate for recruiting. Casey and Bailes were the recruiters.

I still remain concerned that Scott Barnes messed this one up. My wife is a baseball disliked/hater who is always complaining about the amount of games I watch. It got so bad in 2018 that I resorted to purchasing motels, on the Coast to get her out of my hair before a big series.(like our "beat down" of Stanford in 2018) She thought Casey was an awesome coach, but wasn't a big fan of Bailey in 2019, he wasn't enough like Casey from her limited perception. I introduced her to Mitchy Slick about a month ago during one of my late night DVR sessions. She saw him doing a in game interview and asked me "whose that?" I responded " Oregon St Coach Mitch Canham, he's our new head coach. She smiles and says "I might have to watch a few games." So my baseball hating wife has a slight crush on Mitchy Slick, which works for me because it'll increase my future viewing opportunities. Its too early to know if he'll be our long term answer for the baseball program, but I appreciate Barnes & Canham unknowingly helping my marriage in the short term. Long term I'm screwed, because wifey is a smart ass who knows how to get under my skin. She's one of those "Don't threaten me with a good time" types.
