According to the osubeavers website, it is supposed to be Zach Grech. This would be Grech's first start on the year and first start since 2018 (the only start of his career). Based upon how he has thrown this year, I would be surprised to see Grech pitch into the fourth. Grech pitched at Goss in 2018. He relieved Kris Bubic in the fifth after Bubic gave up a two-run blast to Trevor Larnach to center to turn a 3-0 Oregon State lead into a 5-0 lead. In the sixth, Grech walked Malone on five pitches. Zak Taylor grounded out to second to move Malone over. And, with two outs, Steven Kwan singled home Malone for a 6-0 Oregon State lead. Grech left after the seventh and the Beavers turned a 6-0 lead into a 10-0 lead. On the other side of the ledger, Bryce Fehmel and Brandon Eisert combined for a four-hit shutout. Fehmel picked up the win to post a 7-1 start. Bubic picked up his only loss of the year. Bubic was subsequently drafted 40th overall (three spots behind Cadyn Grenier) by the Royals. With Danny Duffy's injury, Bubic is now in the starting rotation. Grech pitched both games at Sunken Diamond in 2019. Grech pitched a perfect seventh and eighth en route to an 8-5 Stanford win. Preseton Jones was the last runner on in the sixth. In game two, Grech came on after Zak Taylor homered to make it a 4-0 game and Army doubled. He got Preston Jones to ground out and struck out Joe Casey, but Alex McGarry singled home Army to put Oregon State up 5-0. In the sixth, he hit Adley Rutschman and gave up a single to Troy Claunch. Taylor put runners on the corner with two outs, but Army struck out to end the threat. Dylan Pearce gave up runs in the sixth and eighth to narrow the score to 5-2, but Mully came on for the save. |

Grech - 5th year senior (thanks COVID). Some of these players seem to have been in the PAC 12 FOREVER. Imagine what longevity Taylor Starr could have achieved with COVID.
Anyway in a time warp/longevity mode, think: Cadyn Grenier / Zach Grech. They graduated from Bishop Gorman HS just 1 year apart.
(May 2015): "Cadyn Grenier ended his baseball career at Bishop Gorman in the best way possible, hitting a walkoff homer to give the Gaels a state title. With the score tied at 5-5 in the ninth inning with Green Valley (Henderson) on Saturday, Grenier hit a 1-1 pitch over the right-field wall to give the Gaels a 6-5 victory."
In that game late May 2015 state championship game, Bishop Gorman Junior Zach Grech pitched in relief.

the human windmill returns the lineup tonight I'm old enough to remember when the windmill was batting .318 w 3 HR (5 games in, including 5 RBI v. 'good' Gonzaga). Last 5 games: 1 for 21 with 10 Strikeouts. America (1972, Ventura Highway) "...Tell me, how long you gonna stay here Joe?...." |
