Wade is a valued asset to this team. His WAR is high! You have to admire him - a walk-on used primarily as a pinch runner and late inning defensive replacement his first year here. He's relentless - tons of BP, absorbing the instruction, practing hard, and suddenly he becomes one of the most reliable hitters on this team. Determined, gritty, tenacious and a fierce competitor. The perfect success story and not atypical at Oregon State. He has one of Madrigal's admirable traits - he makes stuff happen at the plate. Wade has a quick bat, runs fast, and is a converted infielder with a good arm playing the outfield. Bailey recruited him, credit to Pat on that evaluation. 2022 tease: Opposing pitchers may start the game against Meckler, Melton and Forrester - that's a formula for an early shower. Meckler has become THE guy on this team that you want up, with runners on, and two down.

One mo time !
In the 4th inning of the Beaver's 9-1 win over Stanford on Saturday, Meckler was at it again. After Gretler and Dernedde flew out to the shortstop, Meckler hit a shot to right field that the Stanford outfielder misplayed. With Barney waving him on to 2B, Meckler once again was on the outfield side of the bag on his turn to second. but clearly hit the base. First time you get a pass. Second time you need to clean that up.

I have noticed that he also runs quite wide of the easiest and quickest path to the bag ! He seems to have well above average speed, so if he just cut out the looping/ arcing route .., it seems he will end up directly on the bag .

For Meckler and LH Hitters: Cross-over step out of the box, start your arc at 60', lean to to the inside, hit the inside corner of the bag, square it up and bolt for second on a direct line.
Fundamentals.
Over the years the Beavers have been an exceptional base running team. We shouldn't even be talking about this kind of stuff.
