It's a totally apt comparison. Covid doesn't care if you're shopping for "essentials" or at a baseball game. And the science says you are in much, much less danger of being infected if you are outside and distanced than if you are inside, and even much less at risk at risk if you are vaccinated. I'm fully vaccinated. I wear a mask in crowds, or when indoors. I pose no threat to anyone. I (and others of similar circumstances) should be able to go into a restaurant, a stadium, or anywhere the ##ck I want. I'm a lifelong Democrat and will die before I ever vote for a Republican. But like I said, $$ck governor Brown and $$ck the OHA. They are both out of touch with reality. And OSU better follow Washington and California and mandate its students be fully vaccinated if they expect to return to school next fall. So spectating a baseball game is as essential for you as getting groceries. Duly noted. I feel bad for you if you're eating at Home Depot.

One thing not mentioned, spoke with someone in the know and hospitalizations in Lincoln/Linn/Benton are increasing to the point where triaging is becoming a greater risk.
18-29 year olds over half the cases, 30-49 almost 1/3 - get your vaccinations DAM IT.

You can be infected anywhere. But I am much less at risk outside at a baseball game than I am inside doing an "essential" activity. According to the Benton County Health Department's website, NO ONE is/was hospitalized at the time of their positive diagnosis.

Meanwhile the untold or forgotten story of these shutdowns is that suicides, shootings, etc. Are at all time highs.

Meanwhile the untold or forgotten story of these shutdowns is that suicides, shootings, etc. Are at all time highs. Actually the number of suicides in the US declined dramatically in 2020, from 48,344 in 2018 and 47,511 in 2019 to 44,834 in 2020. Shootings might be at an all-time high, I don't know. Maybe because so many people have so many guns?

You can go to Costco or home depot or fred meyers and walk literally within inches of others but heaven forbid you find a seat at reser and sit 10 seats from the closest person. As an OHA employee, still working on covid response more than a year later, the inequity in our response is the most maddening thing. We aren't asking Home Depot to limit occupancy any more. We aren't asking Costco or any other stories to limit entry. You drive to a Home Depot on Saturday right now it is an outright f%#*ing zoo. Placing the burden on small businesses and schools, while large corporations skirt the rules is problematic. and worse, it is obvious to even the most inattentive observer. If we REALLY do have a problem with community spread again, it means we control the WHOLE community, not just the easy ones. The reason is simple on this one. OSU has to listen to the Governor. Small business restaurants aren't a significant political block, and fast food restaurant figured out drive through only is high profit margins because they can run on skeleton crews. (notice how like zero of the opened up fully when they could of?) But Home Depot and it's $110 billion in annual sales can cause problems in Oregon if it wanted to spend it's money that way... Same with Costco and Fred Meyers or most any other major chain. The inequity is galling. If we have a problem, fine. but make it ALL of our problem, not just a few select places and settings. (FWIW, we do have a problem, we have 3x the average cases of LA county, with less than half the population. Oregon is the fastest growing state in the nation) (FWIW, we do have a problem, we have 3x the average cases of LA county, with less than half the population. Oregon is the fastest growing state in the nation) Simple minded person's conclusion: What Oregon is doing is not working.

Notice how that death rate is basically nada. It ain't old people getting sick on this 4th wave. and even among those hospitalized, their cases are nowhere near as severe as in the winter.

And again, going to Home Depot for a weed whacker, or to church, or to Fred Meyer to buy cargo pants or whatever is not essential to survival. It's also much more dangerous than sitting outside at a baseball game. I'm using common sense.

No, in reference to your point, younger people in Oregon stopped giving a s%#t. Other states obviously have young people that care more.
