Not sure Why it hasn't happened but all colleges should require the vaccine to attend including osu. It's coming for both OSU and UO......

And again, going to Home Depot for a weed whacker, or to church, or to Fred Meyer to buy cargo pants or whatever is not essential to survival. It's also much more dangerous than sitting outside at a baseball game. I'm using common sense. that won't work when evaluating governmental decisions.. That's likely the most correct statement on this thread!

As I said, Covid doesn't discriminate between "essential" activities and leisure activities. You can be infected anywhere. But I am much less at risk outside at a baseball game than I am inside doing an "essential" activity. According to the Benton County Health Department's website, NO ONE is/was hospitalized at the time of their positive diagnosis. No s%#t sherlock. But you know, people have to shop to survive. They don't have spectate baseball games in person. Stop being obtuse. It is a question of priority, for sure. My issue is they haven't clamped down there. in the depth of our winter wave, they limited people in the building, had lines to go in, etc. They are applying none of that. every large box store is free entry, with some now well worn arrows on the ground. I don't have a problem putting measures back in place, I have a problem with applying the measures inequitably. It is visible. hell it has been in the papers. many restaurant owners have asked out loud how come they are shut but you can freely walk into almost any other large store? It is a good question. Where is the capacity limits?

Where is the capacity limits? Now, that we are back it extreme, even the big box stores are supposed to go back to 50% capacity. They only two chains that have monitored capacity consistently through this whole thing that I have noticed are Trader Joe's and TJ Maxx. Both of them have had people counting customers the whole time.

I'm talking about essentials. You are moving the goalposts. Nope. Using common sense. It might be your board, but you're totally wrong here. You started with shopping and then added in church. Textbook definition of moving the goalposts. Bottom line is that people can survive without going to a baseball game, most can't survive without going to get groceries.

that won't work when evaluating governmental decisions.. That's likely the most correct statement on this thread! I can tell you first hand our current Governor is more concerned about her enduring legacy than about using data and science to make informed decisions.

Meanwhile the untold or forgotten story of these shutdowns is that suicides, shootings, etc. Are at all time highs. Actually the number of suicides in the US declined dramatically in 2020, from 48,344 in 2018 and 47,511 in 2019 to 44,834 in 2020. Shootings might be at an all-time high, I don't know. Maybe because so many people have so many guns? speakthetruthSuicides are down 5%, but teen suicides are up almost 14% in Oregon. Government-imposed isolation is a killer among the young. Shootings were up in 2020 over 2019 but still not as high as 2017. Non-gun-related violent crime is up, highest levels since 1995. There are some very strong law enforcement funding versus violent crime negative correlations coupled with increased violent crime related to looting and rioting.

Doesn't someone need to remove the vaccine from emergency use first? I have always assumed that that would have to be the first domino to fall. I am 100% vaccinated and have been for 18 days. But I respect personal responsibility, everyone's right to do what is best for themselves.

I have had one shot the second in a week. I am tired of doing the right thing only to be punished because others aren't. The best approach to get more vaccinated is to use a carrot and a stick. The governor only knows how to use a club on everyone.

The governor only knows how to use a club on everyone. I am screaming for people to get vaccinated, but in defense of the younger crowd and vaccines, they weren't even eligible until three weeks ago to get a vaccine, and it's only in the last week that they announced that walk ups were welcome at Reser, and has OSU announced any kind of direct service to students or anything? I'm 60 and I wasn't eligible until less than 3 weeks ago for a shot, but I got in a bit early because I realized that they were using an archaic measure of body mass to determine one risk factor. SO many of these 19- 49 year olds never had a chance to get a shot before they got infected. 40% of Benton County is fully vaccinated, and well over half have had at least one shot (which gives 70-80% immunity by itself, and yet cases are spiralling upwards. And now the under 18 set are going back to school, and most of them still can't get shots. And I bet 20% of all ages will never get shots, because the 1 in a millions risk of a bad side effect is better odds than the nearly 100% chance of eventually getting the disease, and the 1-10 chance of lingering side effects from the illness, and/or huge hospital bills and/or the occasional death. I need a strong shot of scotch when I get home - kills the germs doncha know.
