Lots of activity over the last week or so on women’s basketball message boards regarding the head coach opening at LSU. The most provocative rumors have to do with Baylor head coach (Louisiana native) Kim Mulkey taking the job.
After reading the posts especially on the Baylor board, it looks like there’s a lot of politics at play in Waco. The Baylor administration has decided to build a brand new basketball arena, located adjacent to campus but on the other side of a major 8-lane Freeway from the central campus core. Mulkey has publicly stated her opposition to that decision. She wants any new arena to be located near the central campus, even though the administration has not identified any building sites there.
So I see these public statements by Mulkey and her refusal to deny any interest in the LSU opening as being merely a bargaining ploy to try to get the administration to change their minds on the arena siting. The success of the MBB program is also likely something she resents as it takes the spotlight away from her and her program. Petty? Yes. But in character? Absolutely.
Seems like kind of a bratty thing to do to publicly contradict your administration’s decision which you certainly had prior input into. But she’s clearly a willful lady lady with a my-way-or-the-highway attitude.
It will be entertaining to see how this all plays out over the next week, but I would be very surprised to see her pack her bags for Baton Rouge.
P.S. It’s amusing to read multiple “don’t let the screen door hit your ass on the way out“ posts from Baylor fans.

If she believes it she shouldn’t fold just to fall in line. People say things like you quote a lot, until they suck. You lose a 3 time Champion coach it’s a big deal.

Then again, before striking gold in the men’s program, the had a murderer’s row. Literally. Let’s see how they do here. Only time will tell. 12 B12 titles to boot. Good luck to the next coach trying to up those marks.

I hope LSU's hire of 3-time national championship coach Kim Mulkey works out better for them than OSU's hire of 3-time national championship coach Jim Zalesky. In 14 years only 2 top 10 finishes at nationals, 10th and 8th.

That hate clearly clouds any objectivity the group has for her talents and accomplishments. It's funny that I keep posting about it. I don't really care about women's basketball anyway. I just think it's funny when fans write things like "Don't let the door hit you..." to someone who has accomplished so much for their school. Very Oregon Duck like actually.

I never said "don't let the door hit your...". I thought it was amusing to see folks on the BAYLOR board expressing that opinion. I much prefer Rueck's coaching approach and demeanor to Mulkey's and when they met head to head, Rueck was 2-0. "Hate" is way too strong a word for my opinion of Mulkey.

OK, but I think a lot of people would prefer her 3 National Titles over our zero.

Of course none of the stories today mention her winless record against Rueck, only the 3 NC's and 12 B12 titles.
