I would like to see a video of the Melton bomb, I was on a Conference call ! I bet Twitter has it. I seem to be wrong. Sorry.

How did Armstrong make that play? He was practically in leftfield. This morning my thoughts return to the play with 2 out in B9 and an Anteater on 3rd base. Armstrong's play on the Nakawake ground ball, which shoulda, coulda, woulda been a 'walk-off' infield single and a 6-5 Anteater victory was as clutch as the ' clutchiest' base hit you'll ever see. Nakawake isn't' some lumbering catcher...he's a SS who is 3 for 4 this season at stolen bases. I can't answer how Armstrong made the play...did Nakawake get a slow start of out of the box...or....just what?? I haven't been able to find a video of the play in any highlight post.

Thanks for heads up Irimi , I can't find any video record of the game - too bad. Missing replays on Melton as well as on Armstrong play ! Sounds like a couple of real highlight worthy plays in a close game !

The camera crew seemed to have lost the ball, on that particular play. So I doubt a highlight will be available. What I really liked after that play, was the energy and enthusiasm from the Beaver dugout. I like it when we're kind of "edgy." or have "chip on our shoulder." I expect a motivated team to hit the field today. Hjerpe will be dealing. We're in good shape.

I expect another tough one today.

Armstrong is so talented! Perhaps we should have him working the cameras! The crew was pretty terrible last night.

Yeah, I’m with Warren in my balk knowledge, but that pitcher clearly made some type of move towards home plate. exactly. Broke the plane. a pitcher in contact with the rubber is required to step directly toward a base in order to throw to it. His plant foot landed in front of the rubber. Obvious balk call. Umps were asleep at the wheel on that one.

I was "marveling" at their SP's move to 1B. Instead of the obligatory step behind the rubber, pivot, throw, he was performing a little hop / jump / rotate 90 degree / throw, all in one motion.
Kept thinking that had to be bordering on a balk, but no one seemed to object and neither the Anteaters's PBP or Parker seemed to mention it.
In over 50 years of watching baseball at all levels, I've never seen that type of move before. I guess once his foot clears the rubber, anything is legal? If so, in over 150 years of baseball, he's the first one to do it in a sanctioned baseball game....?

Should've left Salgado in. Absolutely. If Claunch blocks the pitch successfully, the tying runner is stuck on first with the fly to right. We then don’t have the infield in for the next batters and Mully has more freedom to throw breaking balls in the dirt with no runner on third. 1 out and runner on first, I like Mully’s chances for getting the save. In general, I still agree with Jim Wilson’s comments during a game in AZ: ‘when you roll numerous guys out for one inning, you’re asking ALL of them to be ON.’ I wouldn’t mind more two-inning relief appearances when a guy is rolling.

I had the game on but the volume was down and with the bad camera angles, couldn't tell what had happened. All I know was that my first thought was that the game was over. Army defense! Army strong!

That’s the move that most pitchers do to 1B. If you watch their feet, they don’t step behind the rubber.

I wasn't specifically claiming it was illegal. Just looked different to me. Must've looked a bit different, or at least quicker, to Melton and our other baserunner who both were picked off.

You should've had the sound on for that one. The anteater announcer was more than impressed with Andy.

I think Hjerpe may end up being the Friday guy if Abel struggles again. I'm not seeing it with McDowell. His bat is a liabilty at this point. I think McMahan is the better option....yes, he's been scuffling, but he was the leading hitter in the pac 12 last season. He's got the ability at the plate, and he's a good defender with a canon arm. I think Canham is trying to build McDowells confidence, which is good........but he seems very outmatched at the plate, imo. It's a tough choice. McDowell is indeed not ready for prime time. Hopefully he'll do what (the elder) Gretler or Tyler Smith did year-to-year early in their Beaver 'careers', namely, become a legit every day PAC 12 player. Gretler BA .171 in 2015, .339 in 2016. Smith .221 in 2011, .343 in 2012. McMahan is a mystery. He has the lowest On-Base-Percentage on the team (at .279). Last season, admittedly a poor comparison, his OBP was .492.
