I am thinking that Joe and Gretler??? should be benched forever. Then they both deliver gigantoc at bats. It is why I drink beer and we have real coaches. after that bottom of the 9th, I went to the pen and moved beyond beer.

Mully, when you get a win, it's never boring! I hate Mully wins, but Mully losses are worse. What about Mully with 38 pitches on a Friday? Done for the weekend? Salgado only 10 pitches tonight - maybe get to see Salgado in a save situation Saturday or Sunday.

I'd use him for one inning on Sunday if we need him. Then sit him for midweek games and get ready for UCLA.

Beavers have been using Mully often even when he wasn't really needed just because, I think, he is sharper when he is a little tired. Sunday sounds reasonable.

That was a crazy ass game!
A few thoughts..
Our pitching is trying to lose games with free passes! How many HBP's? 4?
Mcdowell is not ready to hit at this level
I want to know the exit velo on that Melton bomb....that ball was CRUSHED!!!

I'm glad to see him getting a reasonable amount of playing time at this point in his career. As far as free passes by the Staff, the Beavs 'real' Friday starter goes tomorrow, so lets hope a series win gets taken care of pronto. 2021 Numbers to chew on: vaunted Vanderbilt SP Jack Leiter is averaging 0.51 walks + wild pitches + hit-by-pitch per inning. Hjerpe is averaging 0.48 of those 'negatives' per inning. Abel is averaging 1.21 per inning.

Second is Gonzaga. The HBP seems to be a big part of both teams' offensive plans.

It's a trend that will need to be cleaned up if we are to make a serious run. We escaped tonight with some timely hitting, but if our pitching limits free passes, we win this game in 9 by a few runs. We find a way to scrap it out vs. these kinds of teams, but when we get to ranked teams, we lose because they really make us pay for the high rate of free passes.

His bat is a liabilty at this point. I think McMahan is the better option....yes, he's been scuffling, but he was the leading hitter in the pac 12 last season. He's got the ability at the plate, and he's a good defender with a canon arm. I think Canham is trying to build McDowells confidence, which is good........but he seems very outmatched at the plate, imo.

Hopefully he'll do what (the elder) Gretler or Tyler Smith did year-to-year early in their Beaver 'careers', namely, become a legit every day PAC 12 player. Gretler BA .171 in 2015, .339 in 2016. Smith .221 in 2011, .343 in 2012. McMahan is a mystery. He has the lowest On-Base-Percentage on the team (at .279). Last season, admittedly a poor comparison, his OBP was .492.

Mcmahan, when he's hot, drives the ball. I'm not sure what's going on with him, but he's a proven commodity at least. That base knock by Gretler the younger, pinch hitting for mcdowell was pretty sweet.
