Some highlights from Te'a (#5)
From 2020:
From last year:
Looks like a capable shooter and slasher. Should be a able to hang at the Pac-12 at least. Not a fan of her help-defense - it looks pretty indifferent. However, it looks worse last year when the team was awful compared to the previous year when they were closer to .500. Hopefully she will come in inspired to be at a program like OSU and play up to her talent level, as I have to wonder if she was wasting away on a 7-17 team. Hoping for the best, but honestly was hoping for someone that would come in not needing to level up so much at the Pac-12.

I can't find it at the moment, but I saw a video on hudl of Marotte going against Sasha Goforth. Hard to take much from edited highlights but Marotte held her own well against Sasha's perimeter defense. She can score from all three levels. Here is the video of AJ going against Sasha....its from Dec. 2018 so AJ would have been a Soph. going against the Jr. Sasha....She outplays Sasha and actually blocks Sasha's shot in the last play of the clip!.....Things are definitely looking up after today! www.maxpreps.com/athlete/aj-marotte/6jh6VLsOEeeT-Oz0u-e-FA/videos.htm?

OK, this link works. However, 41 seconds of highlights doesn't exactly tell a person who outplayed who (Marotte vs. Goforth) for a 40 minute game. Oh, I happened to listen to a 5 question interview with her done by UW (coach Nesto) on youtube, and he pronounced her last name in a way that sounded like "merit". True? Is that how it is pronounced? If curious, here is that interview: (in question 4, she says her rebounding is a lessor known strength of hers. Also, she says she is 6'1" (the same height as Sasha Goforth.) Also, she says she never got a chance to visit U Dub. Same must be true of OSU, yes? no? Ron needs to interview her ASAP.

Ok....point made duke2....but really the thrust of this is that AJ as a sophmore looked pretty good going up against a top-notch defender.....and now with a couple of more years of experience and some SR coaching this fall we may have ourselves a pretty good replacement for Sasha!

If she has or gets even a foot in the same ballpark as Sasha in terms of talent I will be pleased.

Just interesting to see her go up against Goforth, albeit briefly.

Of course, I'm assuming that von Oelhoffen will start. Te'a looks to provide us with 10-20 minutes of solid play and definitely a different look. I think her game will translate and she looks capable of running the team. We already have our star point guard!

You could be correct about her coming off the bench, as a 'backup' , however, I like to think that - depending on game plan and opponent, the roles become a little more blurred ! Tea would have defensive and / or offensive ( or both ), against certain players on the opposing teams . As an example, when we are getting full court pressure and 'heavy handed defense , it would seem that a guard with her experience and playmaking ability, would make better decisions and execute more crisply than the other women at her position . We had quite a few games where we were keeping it close ( score wise ), and then the opponent would go on an offensive streak that was the result of filling the lanes, backpacking the girls bringing the ball up the floor and denying passes to the 'shooter ' So, 'backup' to me ,does not adequately describe the role of someone on the team that has special skills that stress ball security and working the ball to the inside or to an open shot from a teammate, or to be open for her own high percentage shot !

Did AJ flip from the huskies? Some site still show her verbal to UW. When they fired the Washington coach she was good to go.

Thanks beaverstever for the Tea Adams highlights, they are hard to find, her team just doesn't seem to put them out, you gotta go to the opposing teams collections. Here is one , at the 58 second mark she, #5 passes to Kalmer, #25, that was fun to see, she shows up more later in the video:
PS remind me how to type an e with the accent, we are all going need that going forward, or do we just call her TA, thanks

Interesting. So you see her as a possible starter depending on the situation? Does that mean we move von Oelhoffen to SG? I don't see Talia not being on the floor based on last seasons small sample size.
Or is it the semantics of the terms "Starter vs Backup"? I definitely see Adams as a major contributor, I just don't see her starting over von Oelhoffen at PG. Not trying to use the term "backup" to demean Adams as a player at all.

We don't really know how everything is going to shake out yet in terms of players who will be on the roster next season. If the Beavs don't add any more players, I would expect a pretty heavy 3 guard lineup of Tea, Talia, and Greta, with Greta sliding to the 3 position at times when they would all be on the floor together. I think the Starter/Backup term will be somewhat semantics because playing time may be very equal between Tea and Greta. I would expect Talia to play approximately 30-33 minutes per game (Aleah last season almost 35), and Greta and Tea to play around 25 minutes each (Sasha 29 last season, Talia 24.3). Tea has averaged between 27.8 and 28.7 minutes per game for 3 straight seasons for San Diego State. I expect limited minutes from AJ as a freshman, but if she comes in and surprises, that would changes everything.
Who get's the minutes up front is going to be very interesting as well. How do you divide up minutes between Taylor, Jelena, Kennedy, Taya, and Ellie? Ellie and Taya, or even Kennedy, (when the Beavs want to go big) may play some '3', but I expect Greta will play wing as well at times with her, Tia, and Tea on the floor at the same time, much as the Beavs played Sasha, Aleah and Talia.
I also just decided that the Beavs recruited Taya, Talia, Tea, and Tamia, just to make it a pain on us fans who post on these boards. Do they realize how difficult it is to not get messed up and put the wrong name in? Ron Callan will have his hands full keeping them correct and Ann Schatz is doomed!! She couldn't keep names straight anyway. We're just lucky Tamia won't be playing this season. Could you imagen "pass from Talia to Tamia, to Tea, to Taya to Taylor for the lay in' .

Just pick the one you want. é is the bottom row third from left
