I was all over the Ionesco thing for awhile and even now that she's eliminated us I still look for an update every once in awhile. But, I'll tell you, this is dragging on now to the point that I'm beginning to wonder if there's some sort of eligibility issue. I mean, really?!! This is just insane!

It has nothing to do with eligibility. It has to do with bargaining/demands (and likely who hires her club team coach). Look for Graves to make the bold move. What's honor among thieves? Altman already did his part by hiring...er... Giving a spot to her twin brother. It would be funny if Graves sacked Campbell to make room. Wonder how impressed that guy would be with hole's "big time influence" on the recruiting trail compared to little OSU as he put it?

Ionescu will be a fine addition to some schools drama department, and possibly a guest on WAIT WAIT DON't TELL ME.

I am pretty sure the brother is a walk-on ... no scholarship from Coach Altman or UofO. Not sure how that is some kind of incentive for Sabrina. And if the walk-on status for her brother was so important to her decision, then why wouldn't Coach T do the same at OSU?

Incentive is that she secured a walk-on spot for her brother at a P12 program and they could attend the same school. Seems obvious. Ask yourself why Coach Tinkle would give a walk-on spot to a player he didn't want so that the women's team could get a recruit. If you don't come up with a good answer then it's probably not worth discussing any longer.

If you don't come up with a good answer then it's probably not worth discussing any longer. Walk-ons don't get a scholarship. In many programs, they have tryouts for walk-ons so they can select among those non-scholarship players to can contribute to the team (typically in practice). Few walk-ons actually see game time at the D1 college level. Yes, they are important and can be a part of the success of the team. And yes, there are limited spots for walk-ons ... so those spots are "valuable". But your implication is that Sabrina influenced someone at Oregon to accept her brother into the basketball program. What is interesting is that I have not heard a single word about the brother transferring to another school if Sabrina does not attend Oregon.
BTW, Altman has an excellent team coming together for 2016 - 17 basketball season. I am pretty sure he knows what he is doing with available spots for walk-ons ... your assumption about Tinkle's choices about walk-ons not-withstanding.

What is interesting is that I have not heard a single word about the brother transferring to another school if Sabrina does not attend Oregon. Keep listening. It may or may not happen, but the fact she might have influenced UO to get her brother a "valuable" walk on spot, her job is done.

Altman gave a walk on spot to the brother of a highly touted recruit that your women's team wanted. Tinkle and Rueck aren't willing to play that game.

"Altman gave a walk on spot to the brother of a highly touted recruit that your women's team wanted. Tinkle and Rueck aren't willing to play that game." DING!...DING!...DING! Winner!!! And another example of why I am proud of my alma mater.

The kid had pretty good numbers for walk on status in his senior year of high school and probably could have landed a full scholarship at a small school.
The brother of girls’ State Player of the Year frontrunner Sabrina Ionescu has been lighting up the scoreboard himself this year. Ionescu had 36 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in a 65-49 victory over Alhambra of Martinez and also had 27 points and 13 rebounds when Miramonte beat Campolindo of Moraga 60-48.

Thanks. I think it will be fun to re-visit this after Sabrina picks a school and enrolls.

Wow...I had no idea the discussion of women's recruiting was so intense! Gotta add another board to my daily rotation. My two cents: At first, I thought you all were insane for thinking that an Elite 8 men's basketball program would ever offer a spot (walk-on or no) to a kid just to influence his sister to join the women's team. Like, why would this happen? I assumed that the most likely scenario was that the kid was pretty good himself, and had offers to attend a mid major or something on scholarship. However, an article from the Daily Emerald includes these troublesome quotes: - Ionescu helped the Miramonte Matadors to a 14-14 finish and trip to the NCS playoffs last year. Miramonte doesn’t keep close tabs on stats, but he averaged about 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game last year, he said. Can I call complete bulls%#t on this? The Daily Emerald had no problems pulling out stats for his sister (they included decimal points and everything!), and I defy you to find one recruitable kid at any high school in the nation that doesn't know EXACTLY what he's averaging. Hell, I had exactly zero offers as a third team all league point guard at the 3A level back in the dark ages of 1997 and I still have a stat book somewhere at home that has box scores from every game.
- Ionescu will work his way toward a three-year scholarship “if everything goes well.” He turned down scholarship offers from Hawaii-Pacific, Chico State and other small schools in the Northern California area. Those aren't even low majors! And it sure sounds like someone's dangling a scholarship in front of this kid...who knows if they have any intention of actually following through on that.
- “I didn’t really feel a difference from being the No. 1 player in the country or a walk-on,” Ionescu said. “All the coaches treated me the same as their recruits. I love all the coaching staff.” I figure it's a pretty bad sign when the kid doesn't even consider himself a "recruit."
- Eddy Ionescu said women’s basketball assistant coach Mark Campbell “really helped me out with getting connected” to the men’s program. OK, now it's sounding like the women's program really did put pressure on the Ducks to look at this kid. How insane is that? How does Duck women's basketball have that kind of pull inside the department?

The emeroid student newspaper interviewed him before the senior season and was too lazy to look at what he did this year, The kid transformed his numbers in his senior season.

This is my favorite contribution to this board in a very long time:
Walk-ons don't get a scholarship.
Coming soon, more hot takes:
Skin: It's all over your body. Giant yellow thing? That's the sun, Daniel. Water update: Still wet.
