Heading home to Australia. Best of luck to her. She had some skills, and was fast getting up and down the court but never seemed to develop confidence in her scoring abilities. |

I was hoping for a breakout year from Simmons because, especially before Talia arrived, we were short at the guard position this year. It appeared that way at the beginning of the year as she was consistently hitting her three ball, but then she disappeared, especially offensively, throughout the season.
I still feel like she never reached her full potential here and Corvallis. She was so impressive playing in Australia's uptempo system. Jasmine was clearly a great teammate on and off the floor - best of luck to her as she likely begins her professional career back home.

I don't know anything about women's pro bb in Australia, but I can't envision a pro league where Jaz would make a roster.
She earned minimal court time on a 5th place team in the Pac. She never learned to attack the basket, her interior passing game is not strong.
She did not demonstrate significant improvement in several years at OSU...She is an average 3 point shooter.
From what I hear she is a great person, an excellent teammate....But I'm not sure where you get the idea that she could make a pro roster.
Can you help me out on this one?

Always difficult and emotional to lose a team mate. Certainly there are many circumstances that can cause this to happen(family issues,etc).
I like the fact that in general OSU seems to keep most of their players throughout their college career. While on the one hand I support the concept of players being able to transfer without penalty, often it seems that they might be better served by staying where they are and improving their game that way. Look at Marie Gulich,Ruth Hamlin, Sydney Weise, etc., etc.
An example of how it often does not work out would be Destiny Slocum. After all the transferring about, she was literally non-existent in Arkansas NCAA tournament loss (3 points I believe she scored). Hard to believe that type of performance would enhance her WNBA chances.
Would be interested to hear other opinions, points of view, on this topic.

There are all different levels and I believe they stopped allowing as many non-Australians in the league. Similar to how Jelena was the best player on her professional team with grown women. Simmons was thought of VERY highly in Australia, which was what made it very disappointing that her game did not materialize at OSU. Morgan Yaeger (who played at Oregon and never did anything) plays in the WNBL, which I believe is Australia’s top team. |

Best wishes to Jas as she seemed an excellent teammate and person! Her minutes were diminishing with the emergence of Savannah Samuel. If everyone comes back at the guard position, you could see Jasmine falling to the 6th option in the depth chart behind Goodman, Goforth, von Olehoffen, Kampschroeder and Samuel. Not much playing time to go around.
Hope she can build a successful professional career in Australia or overseas. Always a Beaver!

With transfer rules becoming easier all the time, there are going to be a lot of players searching for more playing time somewhere else. The Beavs have done a great job keeping people in the program because they do work hard at developing a family atmosphere....win, or lose. I wish Jas the best. All indications are that she was a great person and teammate. I hope she is leaving with an OSU degree. The grass is not always greener for those who transfer. I'm not sure that Destiny's transfer from OSU helped her improve her stock. When Destiny came to OSU I thought she could be that player who occasionally takes over a game and wills her team to victory, similar to what Aari did for Arizona yesterday, but that didn't really happen here, and it didn't seem to happen at Arkansas either. That is the type of performance I would have hoped for Destiny in the tournament this year, but as it turned out, I think she was something like 1-8 shooting. Some of these players are playing a dangerous game (when it comes to their basketball career) when they decide to transfer. Some don't find teams, and some find a spot deeper on the bench than they were on their previous team. Jovana being an example as a Beaver. Raina Perez, Erin Boley, and Taylor Mikesell are examples where transfering appears to have work well. Jas did a lot of ball handling for the Beavs before Talia arrived, and was used as the backup PG to Aleah in quite a few early games. If Aleah does not return, this does leave a shortage on the team of ball handling guards. If Aleah returns, Greta will probably add more production than what would have been expected from Jas. Well, some have been concerned about the number of scholarships available; this frees one up. Hope she's graduating this June, and good luck to her.
This pretty much writes the final chapter on the 2018 recruiting class of Aquino, Morris, and Simmons. Just didn't work out with that class, and that's a lot of the reason why this year didn't pan out as well as had been hoped.
This makes Taya our lone playing junior next year, and it will be her 5th year in the program. If she doesn't come back for a 6th, we will conceivably have zero seniors in 2 years.
I wonder if Jasmine's decision was influenced by, (a), she knows Aleah is coming back, (b), she knows the Beavs are close to landing guard help in the transfer portal, or, (c), some combination of those two things.

Both of our recent grad transfers, Bre and Destiny, didn't seem to work out on the court. Destiny played more but was never THE player for the pigs. I hope both found what they were looking for off the court, both education and personal.
And I personally don't think that the transfer raised Destiny's stock for the next level.
