They acknowledges it? Then why did they do it in the first place? Why wait until later rounds to "fix" it?

Agree. This is nuts. Should have been equitable on day one. At this point there should be an all out effort to remedy - TODAY. How many gyms are there in San Antonio - think they could deliver some equipment?
Just shocking the decisions that get made. The real test will be if they repeat this disrespect.

I was kind of surprised that any on-site weight lifting facilities were provided for men or women during the tournament. Didn’t realize that weight training was a key aspect of practice at this point in the season. Live and learn.

Does anyone know if facilities like this have been provided in past years or is this a first?

The women's tournament is still a money loser for the NCAA. Even the wrestling tournament makes money that helps support the women's basketball tournament.
The environment is changing for women's sports, but women themselves need to put their money where their mouth is and start backing women's sports. Put pressure on the corporate sponsors and advertizers. Be avid fans and attend the games. Heck, the last I saw Glove didn't have a male restriction on posters, but, except for a few posters, the women's board is totally male posters.

In prior years, all rounds are scheduled at school locations (until the final 4) with only 4 teams per location (at each round.) So plenty of space for workouts, if needed. Most universities have great facilities. What I don't know is whether players actually lift weights during the tournament rounds. Not sure if this is a major issue or if it's being blown up just because that is what people like to do these days.

This is a bigger issue because teams are at their locations much earlier, and teams will be at the location for the duration of the tournament, so weight training facilities are important for nothing else but keeping teams in their normal routine.

You know the men's basketball makes a lot more money then women's. If a salesman makes more sales than the saleswoman do you give them both the same comission?

You can see a number of video's and pics of the men's facilities packed with guys working out. So yes, they do work out during the tournament. Maybe just working off nervous energy? Dunno.

I'm having a hard time getting worked up over it. The NCAA didn't even know how many teams - and thus how many courts to have available - until really late in the game. I'm sure that the NCAA staff has been running ragged setting up all the facilities, testing procedures, schedules, and so on. Should this have happened? Of course not. But how much lather should we work up because some frazzled facility manager dropped the ball?
I will say this: whoever at the NCAA made up the lame excuse should be lashed. Just admit that someone made a mistake! And then do what you can to rectify it.
And I'll say this: I don't care much for the "If you aren't as mad as I am, then you are part of the problem" attitude. Nothing in this world is that black and white. (Hmm. Can we still use that phrase?)

As one of the few female posters on this forum I'll offer some thoughts.
Agree with: NCAA should have owned the mistake and not made more excuses "part of the problem" attitude isn't helpful
Don't agree with: They didn't know how many teams.... the decision to make this a bubble was made months ago. Pick a number - 64 - and go for it. Money arguments - Title IX; prohibits sex based discrimination. It's not hard to be equitable with identical sports. Someone just needs to make it a priority.
In reading more about Title IX before making this post the loophole is that "institutions" are responsible for adhering to the law, not NCAA. Some room for voices to be heard with this gap.
Go BEAVS.

Since the men's Final Four and Championship is usually played in a converted football arena to accommodate the crowd, there's a huge amount of revenue lost here. What should have been done across the board is to make all facilities adequate, but Spartan-like to meet basic needs. However, that might have caused an uproar on the other end of the spectrum. What are student-athletes truly entitled to?
