Fortier would be a very good coach. Proven she can win games, recruit, and develop players. For WBB, UW has a higher ceiling than Gonzaga, but it's also a bit of a rebuild at this point. Fortier recruits similar type kids that Rueck does. We had recruited at least Chandler Smith, the Wirth twins, and Kylee Griffen and possibly a few others.
The Drake coach also does a nice job, but does not have the sustained level of success that Fortier has and probably doesn't have as strong west coast connections.
Campbell would be a good hire, though as a white male he may be on the outside looking in. I'd think they may want a woman. I'm sure there are a few other mid-major coaches on the west coast who would be top candidates.

Not sure why Campbell can't get a HC job. Unless he doesn't want one.

They hired McGuff and Neighbors back to back before Wynn, so I don't think they would be dead set on hiring a woman. That might have been a different AD though. Last 2 WVB coaches at UW have both been male. I would hope they go for best available candidate and not worry about trying to check any particular boxes.

Not sure why Campbell can't get a HC job. Unless he doesn't want one. Campbell wouldn't have interviewed for other head coaching jobs last offseason if he didn't want one. He certainly wants to be a head coach now. He knows that Graves isn't leaving what he has built at Oregon willingly any time soon. Campbell can recruit. And the Washington head coaching job would give him the opportunity to show that he can keep the top in-state talent from fleeing Washington's borders so readily and frequently.

Washington has some decent pieces with Miller, Van Dyke, Sadler, and Whitfield. Both Sadler and Whitfield had some injuries but are good players. They also have four incoming top-100 recruits (one of whom enrolled early). There are definitely some decent pieces there to start a rebuild with. Washington has a really strong 2023 class (could compare to their 2020, probably a less top-heavy but still a great class). High-ceiling gig if they can get the right hire.

If I were the Gonzaga coach, it would take a ton of money to get me to U Dub. Spokane is a very nice town; Seattle has a city government that sanctioned the 'autonomous zone' where domestic terrorists could enjoy a nice 'Summer of Love.' Gonzaga has a very good program that will sustain itself, they have always drawn well (better than us even), and basketball is obviously a big deal there. It would be pretty hard to convince someone that they can never reach great heights there when the men's team is the number one overall seed.
The Gonzaga women need to find a way to beef up their non-conference schedule and attract more attention. Once again, home and homes with us and/or the Ducks would go a long way for them.
But U Dub attendance fell through the roof after Plum left, and they averaged 1,748 last year. Gonzaga averages more than 4 times that.

While she has been recruiting well, it’s pretty unlikely Fortier will ever be able to turn Gonzaga into a national title contender. Top recruits in WBB aren’t really interested in playing in the WCC. Gonzaga will likely be the favorite to win the WCC for as long as she is there. Washington job has a high ceiling but a low floor.

Fortier has been doing a really good job at GU, but her Tourney performances haven't matched what Graves was able to do there.

Fortier has been doing a really good job at GU, but her Tourney performances haven't matched what Graves was able to do there. Fortier's '14-'15 Gonzaga squad eliminated the PAC-12 regular season champion Beavers by 12 in Gill in the second round of the NCAA tourney in March 2015. Her '18-'19 squad lost a very competitive game at Gill in March 2019 in the second round of that season's NCAA tourney. Her teams are limited by their WCC competition and have to rely on better out-of-conference scheduling to play a decent schedule. Fortier has proven she can coach. Gonzaga is a pretty special place. I can see Fortier being happy there. If the UW offered her, it would take a lot more than the six-year $1.9 million contract that lured Wynn to Seattle
