Ok beavers we've had a few hours to sleep on it although some of you may still be drinking lets play Athletic Director. Do you give tinkle say a 2 or 3 year extension now or see what happens next year? Nope. Not sure what his contract status is but he has at least two years left. That's plenty. You (or I, if AD) never want to get stuck with a long-term deal you can't get out of when things go south, as they invariably do for 90% of coaches. Pay him fairly, but no long-term extensions. He’s earned another 2 year extension. I just wouldn’t go longer than that. Somewhere, baseballllls is spinning in his straight jacket.

How would you feel if you just gave perhaps the performance of your lifetime and your employer did nothing to recognize it? I’d be out of here so fast! We’ve got to reward his accomplishment. I believe there is a bonus in his current contract for making it to "the dance" Way to Go Beavs!!!

When has a seed lower than 4 won the tourney? Winning 4 straight is extremely hard, and only needing 3 wins as a 5 only was possible due to UA’s cheating. As gassed as both teams were in the 2nd half, I can’t imagine how it would have been as a 4th straight game.

How would you feel if you just gave perhaps the performance of your lifetime and your employer did nothing to recognize it? I’d be out of here so fast! We’ve got to reward his accomplishment. In a regular business you give out bonuses to reward accomplishment, not guarantees of longer employment, but college basketball is not a regular business, extensions in cases like this are the norm. Do extensions and you lock in the ability for the coach to say he's going to be there for 4 years to recruits. Do extensions and you signal to not only the head coach, but other potential future coaches that you aren't cheap and won't leave coaches hanging. Hawaii lost June Jones (I'm mixing football in basketball, but it's basically the same deal in this case) because of that, it's taken them years to recover. I know that if I were a coach looking at a school that had not been to a NCAA tournament in 24/25 years leave a coach who'd taken them to the tournament twice in 6 years hanging, I'd probably only consider it a lousy potential employer and only consider taking a job there as a stepping stone. One or two good years and I'd possibly be open to offers from a program that thinks long term. Here's the reality... OSU hadn't been to the tourney since 1990 prior to Tinkle. Tinkle has taken the team dancing twice in the 6 years there's been a dance. Last year, beating Oregon in the cancelled Pac 12 tourney game might have made it 3 of 7 if there were a tournament as they were on a roll and already 64th in NET rankings prior to that game. The previous year they were snubbed in the NIT tournament, and if OSU had not snubbed the CBI tournament Tinkle's first year, they likely would have had a great shot of being in that tournament every season but 2016/17. He's done a heck of a job here. If extensions weren't the norm I wouldn't give him one, but since they basically are, for the sake of the program's future you do it. As an AD, if you want to limit yourself to hiring the Ritchie McKay types, go ahead and not give Tinkle an extension and hope Tinkle sticks around. I'd give him 2 or 3 years, whatever he wants unless he starts demanding huge money. I'd probably make sure I have a few donors in my side pocket for a potential buyout down the line, but I'd try to lock Tinkle in and expect things to work out well.

Caught fire at the right time ... Also, at some point ( maybe after the first big Colorado loss ), WT started to really coach. 1) The game prep was far better 2) WT's demeanor on the sideline and in game coaching became a key to the rest of the season 3) The kids really started pulling together and playing for each other - especially on the Defensive side of the ball, which led to a more active and engaged offense Everyone involved with, and on the team, contributed to the synergistic dynamics Winning any of the Conference Tournaments is VERY DIFFICULT... it is compressed pressure in a short series, with little room for error and a lot of intense ( tourney level ), play from each competitor ! This WILL pay Dividends with Wayne's future squads. Yes, there will be disappointments too - but, it won't be because they did not actually compete like they now know they can ! Go Beavers - keep on rolling ! I felt it was after that blowout loss to Arizona that the squad really lifted their play, especially on defense. I don't know...it feels like the program took a big jump to me in the second half of this season. Tinkle really upgraded the talent, as well. Some newcomers played vital roles in the teams success this year, which was great to see.

I mean what Tinkle has had to overcome is crazy! Last year was our first winning record in the Pac 12 since 1990. In his 7 years, he’ll have guided us to two NCAA berths.

I just want to say that I hope Wayne is the face of OSU basketball for a long, long time. Good man.

Actually I think we owe them a BIG thanks. Tired legs from an extra game has gotta be worth two or more points, IMHO. Watching Ohio State and Illinois right now and "The" OSU is a 5 seed who has to play 4 games in 4 days which included an OT game. They are down 28-14 right now and looking weary.
