I am pretty sure that you do not know what gaslighting is. Texas was warned 10 years ago to prepare for a 2011-level storm, which Texas did. The February storm was a worse storm than the 2011 storm. Texas did not withdraw from the other grids. Texas chose not to connect to the Western grid or the Eastern grid (which was not even really a thing back then). By not connecting to the Eastern or Western grids, Texas' power generation and distribution are not governed by Federal law. That keeps it cheap, but there is no safety net. You ignore Idaho, which has the 11th-lowest death rate in the United States, Oklahoma with the 16th-lowest death rate, Montana with the 19th-lowest death rate and Florida with the 24th-lowest death rate. The Dakotas probably would have been fine had they decided to take some, if any action prior or during Sturgis. Nevertheless, more people have died in Draconian lockdown Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. It is almost like the lockdown, as it was handled in most of the country, was a useless governmental overreach designed to convince the gullible or ignorant that the state governments were doing something to fix the problem. I personally think that a more locally-focused surgical approach to lockdowns was the correct approach. I definitely think that lockdowns were necessary in certain locations to make sure that the medical infrastructure was not overwhelmed. But it seemed like the governing class almost always fell back to a one-size-fits-all shotgun approach to shutting down everything regardless of whether there is even active transmission in an area. That approach was, by and large, wildly unnecessary and is an affront to the liberty that this country was founded. Idaho got hit hard by Covid and had to send patients out of state. Not exactly a role model, especially compared to Oregon. Lol! No, I believe that you are echoing a bunch of pre-election fake news fear porn designed to scare and animate the gullible and foolish. The stories were all that Idaho's hospitals were at "99% capacity" and that they were going to have to send patients to Portland and Seattle. No patient was ever sent out of Idaho. Those stories all died right after votes were cast. You are a useful idiot.

OK. If you can see that there is a ton of hypocrisy in the argument to want to go back to normal, then that’s a start. Start to what? Don't patronize me. I got my degree in science. I'm not an idiot. In that you like to BS about Science? Or...........?

Nice. It’s a wonderful way to completely disregard anything you want to ignore. The news reports, even by NPR, about the rate of hospitalizations, especially in rural Idaho, are well-documented. And you ignore it all by saying Fake News. That’s worse than cherry picking. Lol! Oh yeah, it’s probably all just a conspiracy, too.

more people have died in Draconian lockdown Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be that those states have 1, large urban areas, where the population density is much higher per square mile than anywhere in the Dakotas, thus making the virus exponentially easier to spread; 2, far, far more people than the Dakotas, in much smaller states, or maybe both? The Dakotas probably would have been fine had they decided to take some, if any action prior or during Sturgis. And most Americans would have never heard of the play "Our American Cousin" except for one small oversight. History isn't going to look kindly on Covid deniers, minimizing the worst public health disaster in this country in more than a century. The Johns Hopkins COVID Tracking Project shows right now the positivity rate in Texas is at 13.5%. That percentage is higher than what it was on Oct. 7, when Gov. Abbott issued his COVID-19 restrictions orders. Texas leadership, it's great. I read your post, and it looks like you agree with me that different parts of the country are indeed different. Logically, different approaches in different states is the way to go, correct? "Our American Cousin" would still be known, because of the "There are no small parts, only small actors," quote, which it generated. Worst public health disaster in the last century? Obesity and smoking. More people die from obesity and smoking than coronavirus, and more people die from obesity and smoking every year for the past several years. You are more likely to die from smoking than coronavirus. History isn't going to look kindy on COVID fearmongers, over-dramatizing a disease, which has a 98.2% survival rate and astronomically higher for individuals under the age of 50. The difference between now and October 7, 2020, is the delta. Cases were increasing at the time, so issue restrictions. Smart! Cases are decreasing, so remove restrictions. Smart! Looking at one single statistic to make a decision. Dumb.

My reply was about more than the emotional appeal of the parents to watch their kids’ games. So if you can see why their pleas are bordering on an annoying whine, then maybe you can start to examine the rest of the argument. I’ve never called you an idiot. I don’t measure a man by his degree, so I’m happy that you have a degree in science but it means little. Literally, hundreds graduate from OSU with a BS every year. Some in food sciences. Some in apparel design. Some in Business.

That you were wrong and that there is no need to discuss how wrong you were. Thank you. Useful idiot: A person propagandizing for a cause without fully comprehending the cause's goals and who is cynically used by the cause's leaders. Repeating a fake news story about how Idaho handled coronavirus makes you a useful idiot. You then go with a worthless moron quip. Excellent! Way to turn it around? I am not ignoring anything. I am not disregarding anything. I am not cherry picking. I am saying that you misinterpreted intentionally misleading pre-election hit pieces and are now espousing your misinterpretation as fact. You are being used, and you are doing a great job of being used. It may fall on deaf ears, but I encourage you to think on this. Are you saying that several members of the media working together to over-dramatize COVID-19 in the lead-up to an election, wherein almost every member of the media wants the same guy to win is a conspiracy? Your words. It is funny to me how you came to that conclusion without me leading you there. Once again, it may fall on deaf ears, but I encourage you to think on this.

With limited capacity, all indications are it should work. Why are "First Reponders and the Heros of the pandemic" at so many entertainment venues? The stance of: I don't think it is a good idea. I won't/wouldn't go therefore NOONE should go is the slope we are on. The "My beliefs/opinions/preferences (insert preferred term here) are not only mine, but will be instilled on you" is the pervasive stance with most of America now. It is also what I believe is becoming our undoing. beavs6, Do you really believe this? Fascinating. So you think people who want you to follow Covid safety protocols are only doing so because it’s their preference and they are forcing their beliefs on you? Can you explain what you mean by beliefs? To me, the word is tied closely with religion. We tend to believe in things that cannot be seen, enumerated, or are abstract ideas. What beliefs are being forced upon you? Also, if the country coming together in agreement of a set of beliefs, opinions, or preference will unravel this country, then what can keep it together? Divisiveness? Divided we stand? LOL. You want to engage in a civil discussion!? Nope, you’ve proven to not be interested in that. Heck, you picked portions of my statement and twisted meanings. You also neglected some of the main points. This thread began as a discussion around “Game Attendance”. I notice you did not engage my opening statement and question. “People who want me to follow COVID safety protocols”—I thought those protocols were about staying physically distance and wearing a mask AND be outside. Heck, there is a commercial currently running that is sponsored by the OHA...or the State...or I have no clue—anyway it is multiple women sitting outside in the rain wearing masks having a baby shower. Why the heck can’t we have some spectators at sporting events in general and in Goss specifically? I remember your take on “beliefs” and “religion”—I’ll pass.(plus why not use preferences, or opinion, or any other word available that I left open to be used? I know why, and so do you) As for your last point(s)...the “beliefs” we all should share as Citizens of this fine Country are spelled out for all of us. You don’t like that. You want to take it further. You think everything is grand once I think and feel in lock step with you. Way too many of those types of people in ALL walks of life. The my Rights are my Rights and my Rights are YOUR Rights mentality. That is what is “becoming our undoing”.

You are more likely to die from smoking than coronavirus.
So, think how many more would die from smoking if we just encouraged people to light up and puff away, instead of having numerous numerous public health policies and economic incentives to prevent people from smoking.
And I'm not at risk of dying from smoking, because I don't smoke. I am at a risk of dying from Covid because some infected asshole not wearing a mask, or refusing to get vaccinated, spreads it to other people.
But the governor of Texas says, "let 'er rip, let's open everything up!" despite the obvious public health dangers of doing so.
That's about as smart as saying, "Let's open up the country because 50,000 people a year die in traffic accidents anyways," while ignoring all we do to prevent traffic-related deaths - safer cars, safer roads, anti-drunk-driving campaigns, etc.
Would you even get on an airplane if they said, "You have a 98.2 percent chance of surviving this flight!"
I'll listen to the public health experts. Not some Covid denier like you on the internet.

If people want to follow protocol, mask and distance, let them be fans, safely, reduced admissions, etc., especially after they are immunized, and that number is rapidly growing. If some, like you apparently, maybe, want to wait until there are ZERO cases (which some are waiting for) and there hasn't been any for a year, then wait, leaves more room for the others doesn't it? Both of you can feel vindicated in your stances that way and you won't run into each other.........

No problem at all with that. But that's not what he's advocating. He's all-in on Texas and other Confederate states opening 100%.
