Oh my god! We are so abused by our governor!! She won’t let us attend baseball games. And she might not let us go to football games. But the other kids are doing it. It’s not fair! She’s so mean! I’m gonna go tell on her! You guys should really listen to yourselves. So it's not ok to question our states leadership? Just wanna be clear if that's what ur saying, cuz I'm not a huge fan. I also recognize that this last year has been impossible.. I said no such thing, but when you’re complaining about not being able to attend a sports venue, you sound like a crybaby. You do realize that they cancelled last year’s baseball games and the world didn’t fall apart, right? There are more important things in this world.

But there are always more important things in the world. You are talking past the point. If we waited until baseball was literally the most important thing in the world, we would never watch nor talk about baseball. So, I guess, shut down the board? No need to talk about baseball. There is something more important to talk about, so talking about attending baseball games is irrelevant in comparison. That, of course, brings up the further point that coronavirus is in and of itself irrelevant in comparison to other things, like solar output, supernovae, stellar drift etc. No need to talk about coronavirus at all. We'll talk about Betelgeuse, its variability and what it all means. Thank you for focusing the discussion on something more important. You do realize that coronaviurs is and has been happening and the solar system didn't fall apart. There are more important things in this galaxy.

All free people should generally fight like hell against restrictions on those freedoms. The comments in this thread reflect that spirit. Considering what is at stake, I think it has been fairly civil. In most cases, I would say it is about a lot more than baseball. However we are talking about Beaver baseball. It's about the baseball. Things are changing rapidly with Covid, in a good way. At this point, I know of no one who is committed to a covid shutdown in May other than the pac 12 and to even a greater degree the OSU administration. As the situation continues to improve the Pac 12 and the OSU administration would be wise to reconsider their position in the coming weeks.

You really dislike looking at the world from a different perspective, don’t you. That’s too bad. Your attempt to belittle my post shows how extreme you can be. Rather than simply admitting that, yeah, in the grand scheme of things the lives of my loved ones are more important than watching a baseball game in person, you blow my point out of proportion. And your last two sentences are a slap in the face to the more than half a million Americans who have died in just about a year’s time AND their loved ones who would rather that they were still around. Doing the right thing isn’t easy. It takes grit and determination. At the beginning of the pandemic I wondered how a different generation of Americans might have responded to the pandemic. Imagine if Americans had been so weak and selfish during WWII. No, I won’t buy a war bond. I need that money for the baseball game. Ration my food?! Americans have become selfish and lazy and it shows. I guess all those Trump supporters in my neck of the woods still flying the American flag upside down are right. America is in distress. How ironic.

Yes, things are improving, but as all the health experts warn, we have to stay diligent. The end is in sight, but if we become too complacent now, it will turn quickly. Pragmatically, Goss stadium is pretty small. While players are in the dugout, bullpen, or on deck, they are not far from the crowds. How can you ensure their safety? I’d propose leaving the first couple of rows at Goss empty. But that and other issues could make it a logistic nightmare. However, I agree that the shape of the country is far better at the end of January than at the end of November or December. By the end of March, we may be in a far better place, so that toward the end of the season, things should be reassessed. From a fan’s perspective, it makes a lot of sense.

I don't want to get into a pissing match, or take this political, cuz I don't give a s%#t about any of your politics......what I will say, is the mental health part of covid is being under-valued. My kids not being in school.....my wife working, keeping up the house, and teaching my kids essentially....my marriage has been stressed to say the least....my dad and I are baseball season tix holders. We have not always had a great relationship, but we both love baseball, and mostly Beavers baseball. We go to Block 15 before games. We talk about the players, coaching, recruiting before, and after the game...Beavers baseball is what helped us come back together.
I haven't physically seen my dad since last March. Him and his wife are in the fairly high risk category, and they are very cautious...I worry about their mental health..they were finally able to get their first vax the other day....my wife and I were in the 1A category and have been fully vaccinated for weeks.....I'm praying that things change, and we can go to Goss.
My point is, for my family the mental health part of this has been pretty damn challenging.....I don't want to take away from those who've lost their lives.....I'm just expressing that going to a ballgame, is more than just going to a ballgame, for my dad and I anyway.

Americans have become selfish and lazy and it shows. I guess all those Trump supporters in my neck of the woods still flying the American flag upside down are right. America is in distress. How ironic. Ad hominem attack. Followed by a rhetorical question that is grammatically incorrect. Good stuff from the get-go. Also, I am not quite sold that you know what irony is, except in an Alanis Morissette sort of way. The lives of your loved ones are more important than watching a baseball game in person. But your argument is a giant false dilemma fallacy. Your argument boils down to, if you watch a baseball game in person, you are literally killing people. And that argument is silly. You can make watching baseball safe. But no one is allowed the opportunity. There is just a blanket ban. It is better that we just throw the baby out with the bathwater. Easier really. It requires less leadership and thought. Problem solved. What I hear from you and the rest of the governing elite is, "We do not trust fully functioning adults to make good decisions. We know better. We are so much smarter and just better than the average fully functioning adult that we will make the decision for them. The average person is little better than a high-functioning monkey and we will treat him and her as such." Besides, as we all know, the governing elite are like the governing elite in Emperor's New Clothes. The governing elite are so much better and smarter and they prove it by being completely unable to successfully create the circumstances, wherein spectators can safely observe a baseball game. The governing class, both collectively and individually, much like the Emperor, is a naked idiot. No, my last two sentences are not a slap in anyone's face. You are trying to have it both ways. What you are saying is super important. It is so important that everything that I say about something less important is irrelevant, uncompassionate and stupid. In fact, your opinion is even more important than things that are clearly more important. To say otherwise is uncompassionate and stupid. No, I disagree. Also, preliminary estimates are that there were 334,000 more deaths over 2019, so, also, no an additional 500,000 people did not die. Further, my argument is a reductio argument. Your argument taken to its logical conclusion is absurd. There is always something more important than what we are discussing. That fact does not, in and of itself, make something less important irrelevant, untrue, wrong, uncompassionate or stupid. We can both be sad that ~334,000 people died from coronavirus in 2020 and still think that we should be able to sit in the stands at a baseball game. Both those things can happen within the same mind. This may be impossible for you, but I can both walk and chew gum at the same time. Doing the right thing often takes grit and determination, but it also takes a freedom to make that choice in the first instance. If you outlaw doing the "wrong" thing, you must do the right thing. That takes neither grit nor determination. In that instance, it takes grit and determination to do something about someone infringing upon your rights. The problem that I have is that a bunch of ruling class dopes are making decisions for us. We are too dumb, selfish and lazy, I suppose. We do not deserve our rights. We must be told what to do. The ruling class elites know better. You know better how I should live my life and how my family should live their lives. And I will be punished, if I have the gall and temerity to live my life in the manner, in which I see fit, to utilize the rights that the Greatest Generation fought and died for, that my grandfather fought for and that my granduncles fought and died for. Your post is a slap in their face and a slap in my aunts and uncles' faces and a slap in my face and my cousins' faces. Americans in World War II were fighting to protect their rights, their children's rights and their family's rights. The ruling class elite in coronavirus are fighting to take away my rights, because I am too dumb, stupid and lazy to know what is best for me and my family. As for World War II, it should be remembered that coastal cities from Atlantic City to Florida refused to participate in blackouts until they were forced to on May 18, 1942, more than five months after the bombing on Pearl Harbor, despite the fact that U-boats were sinking boats along the East Coast by the last couple of days in December. I guess they were ust as dumb, stupid and lazy? I will say that the average American is not lazy. And the average American is not selfish. The only people who say otherwise are out-of-touch elites, who "know better." Basta!

We can't let 'em take away your whole world!

I’m not going to change any minds here, and you certainly are not going to change mind. The difference is that I am grateful that baseball is being played this year and I hope that OSU does everything possible to minimize the risk to the players so that they can play without fear. If that means that I have to stay at home and watch the games on TV whenever possible or listen to the games when TV is unavailable.
It’s OK with me. I am can handle it. I’ll let you guys continue the discussion.
You know what I think. That’s enough.

The 500,000 number of Covid-related deaths also includes those who died in 2021. A substantial number already.
A "year's time" was 3/20 to 3/21, not the 2020 calendar year. We will be well ahead of average annual deaths between 2014-2019 this year as well before it's all over.

The demographics are quite striking: Over 2% of the US population age 85 and over have died of COVID (or with COVID) since they started tracking. About 1/425,000 US under age 15 have died of/with COVID. Not to say I’m adding much to this convo, just a fact I came across that was interesting to me.
