Ucla delivered a clinic to the smucks today. This will be a good test for the Beavs prior to pac tournament . They don't have to win but learn what they need to do in a couple of weeks.

A huge game for the Beavs. A win over the Bruins goes a long way towards punching a ticket to the NCAA tourney and keeping the Beavs' streak of consecutive NCAA tourney appearances alive. The Beavs have a chance if they shoot 45%+ and can handle Osborne's sometimes stellar/sometimes erratic/often defensively disruptive play.
Neither Osborne nor Onyenwere are shooting well from the field this season. They are volume shooters/scorers this season on a diminished roster. Limit them, make them have to score from outside their comfort zone, and OSU might just escape Pauley with a significant and signature win.

If she can slow down Onyenwere and we can rebound we have a chance. Hopefully the team just continues to grow.

I predict Talia will come off the bench early and whichever of Talia or Aleah isn’t being guarded by Osborne will bring the ball up. Osborne gave our ball handlers a very difficult time last year.
Corsaro, Chou, and Horvat aren’t particularly athletic, but they were all top recruits and all have good length.
The key will probably be rebounding. UCLA leads the league in offensive rebounding at 16.4/game. OSU leads the league in defensive rebounding at 30.9/game, but we give up the fourth most offensive rebounds at 12.4/game.

Yep, the whole thing w/ UCLA is keeping them off the O boards. That's why it doesn't matter if they shoot poorly, they just keep getting more chances (if they are ripping the nets like they did against the Ducks they're just about unbeatable).
I think Horvat is more athletic than you're giving her credit for.

Anybody that would remember my post know that I'm a big believer in the Beavers future. I'm not that thigh on the Beavs present. I really thought the Beavs would lose to USC, so that shows what I know. I don't hold out a lot of hope against UCLA either.
I'm not as big a fan of Osborne's sophomore season as most are, mainly because she puts up a lot of shots to get her points. Her under .400 shooting percentage is not what you would want from a superstar, but UCLA's rebounding ability makes up for much of their poor shooting.
As for the Beavs, the USC game was a nice victory for the Beavs. It felt like Beaver basketball again. Watching the replay today, it was also obvious that overall, USC played a poor game. I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but about 6 minutes into the game the Beavs made their first substitution by going small and bringing in Talia in place of Taya. The lineup was Taylor, Ellie, Sasha, Aleah, and Talia. I'll be surprised if that's not a preveiw of next year's starting lineup, with the only change being the PF spot. I lean toward thinking it will be Kennedy, but that's quite a few months away.
Getting back to this game. I don't give the Beavs much hope. I'm not sure the Beavs are ready to stop UCLA's offensive rebounding, or their quickness. As against USC, I hope I'm wrong.

Ucla delivered a clinic to the smucks today. This will be a good test for the Beavs prior to pac tournament . They don't have to win but learn what they need to do in a couple of weeks. The hell they don't! A win moves them up a bit in the conference standings for seeding in the PAC 12 tournament, gives them the belief that they can, indeed, beat a quality opponent, and makes the selection committee take a closer look at them. A loss moves them down in the standings and conference seedings, leaves them feeling that they really can't play with the big kids, and ends any slim hope of making the NCAA tournament. Win tomorrow and we have a good chance to beat Oregon; lose, and we'll lose that one too. It's not quite 'win or go home' but it might as well be.

To me, it is now clear that Talia should be starting. We need her on the offensive end. Taylor is on the bench right now. Does anyone know if she picked up an early foul?

Nice drive to the hoop by Taya but missed the layup.
