Aleah is a hell of a competitor, no way will she want to go out on a year like this one. It's not just the losses but also all the missed games so far and who knows how many more we might miss.

jimbob- you are confusing "smothering" defense with sound, conservative denial defence....
The defensive philosophy Rueck lives by is predicated on the inability of offensive players to beat the defense on the dribble, and the inability of the offence to hit open jumpers from the free throw line extended..... That philosophy has seen its day.
All the good teams today now have players who can do both of the things that Rueck's defense, by design, gives up... Which is to say, dribble penetrate, and hit the open free throw line extended jumper.....
I'm hoping Rueck continues to outperform - but like the Big Ten football teams of the past that could not adjust to the wide open passing game, Rueck is now facing offences his philosophy simply is not equipped to deal with...
Sure, adjustments will be made, but that, almost by definition, is a 5 year process.... Right now the WBB team is about where we were at the apex of Coach Miller's career with the Men's team - we are now looking at a watershed moment in WBB.....
In an nutshell, the talent influx into the league has drastically diminished the effectiveness of Rueck's defensive philosophy, and even more, it has diminished the effectiveness of his offensive philosophy....
Like it or not, Coach is looking at a difficult intersection in this coaching career....And so are we, his faithful fans.... GO BEAVS!!

Ummm, but those type of points are the 2 variety, and OSU's defense against the 2 is second in the Pac-12. It's the three that is killing them. I don't think SR is quit a fossil yet, just needs to convince his players to buy into his system.

Well without getting too complicated about defensive scheme's and such all I know is that when I watch Stanford or ASU play I see in your face pressure defensive pressure all over the floor--2pt and 3pt areas and passing lanes--I used to see this type of defense from SR teams--however OSU started to get away from that last year and it has been pretty much non-existent this year.

It’s not scheme. OSU is doing nothing different from the years you are thinking of. The difference is OSU had the best shot blocker in the history of the conference, and including her 3 strait conference defensive players of the year. If Kennedy gets back and healthy, and Sasha and Savanah improve with experience, that defense will be back.

I agree that there are obviously defensive problems this year. But last year the Beav's were fourth in the country in points/100 poss. ie, there were only three teams who did a better job of stopping the opposing team from scoring each possession.

Also, the issue this season is we are playing a lineup that doesn’t fit modern basketball, which we have never done. Modern hoops is played with three guards, a forward and a center. We are trying to play with 2 guards and 3 bigs. It’s no surprise we can’t guard the perimeter.
