Serious question. A good coach is obvious, but what will it take to get us competitive in the PAC and nationally? Admin support? Facilities? Money? Shady recruiting? Older coach with history of success? Young up and comer? Strong assistant at a successful program? What is the secret sauce?
WT seems like a great guy and a personality fit for OSU, but just not getting it done. I hate to start over again, but this is just not working.

What is it gonna take? This isn’t working any differently than the previous 30 years and is arguably working better. After 30 years I’m starting to believe this is as good as it gets

Unlike you I would rather strive to be a champion then to accept the mediocrity and this year the stench that is oregon state men's basketball. Maybe we will never be champs again regardless of what changes but I know for sure that what is currently happening is not acceptable and a change must happen. If you are happy with D grades (after all they are passing) then so be it. I would like to strive for something better.

After 30 years I’m starting to believe this is as good as it gets WT has had some decent rosters, I'd say the best we've had in terms of consistency on the talent level over the 30 years, but it's not at a talent level that can compete for the upper-half of the conference without also combining it with good coaching. When I've watched his teams play, I've been confused too, and feel for the players. I certainly don't love the continuous coaching changes, but I appreciate that we keep trying. If we accept this is as good as it gets, then we should drop the sport - the idea is to compete, not check a box.

I just see guys like Terry Porter , etc. , doing more with less . I was actually happy for Wayne that he had an uptick in recruiting this last year, it showed that he just did not rely on coaches sons. Two things, however, remain consistent ; 1) The offense seems to be just slightly better organized street ball. You very rarely see penetration or baseline plays - and when they do penetrate , it's one on three, as the other teams just collapse . Effect , many turnovers and no points. Chucking up 3's and heavily challenged 2's from 15' or so isn't a plan for success. 2) The defense last night was a glaring example of 'missed assignments', and no communication when switches were required .
I love watching Alatishe and Calloo and Lucas, but their potential and contributions are buried in a mash up of incompetent game planning and execution ! Oh well, will not go out of my way - but will watch when I have nothing else to do .

Ok you say this is unacceptable and strive for something greater, I say it’s been this way for thirty years regardless of coach. I didn’t say I’m supporting Wayne Tinkle, I’m saying firing yet another coach after 5-6 years to achieve little to no gain on the court and financial distress off of it just sounds like the same s%#t we’ve been doing for 3 decades. At this point we have to let Wayne’s contract play out and then reset the coaches salary and start all over again. Bitching about it now isn’t accomplishing anything.

They won 1 conference game last year, 0 the year before. Not sure how he still has a job there, but hey, maybe we've help keep him employed!

Letting a coaches contract expire is never done - it's how a program can ensure bottoming out. How do you recruit a kid to come for 4 years when the coach's contract doesn't even go that far?

Well current complaints are that Tinkle can’t recruit and we’re bottoming out so....

You don't see Wisconsin Stevens-Point pining to hire him. Move on!

Oh well, will not go out of my way - but will watch when I have nothing else to do . One thing that stood out to me was the high-low between Franklin and Silva. Two passes from Julien and two gimmies for Roman. OS had a height advantage which wasn't exploited. Other than the two instances I mentioned, our inside game was Ethan or Zach driving into traffic and either forcing something up or losing the ball. Defense and rebounding still seem to be liabilities. This is all coaching, and I'm not sure how or if that will change. Wayne seems to have a serious substitution problem; when and who. MB.

Another thing - the Beavs don't like contact - play "football" against them, send them to the line, but overall make them flinch trying to go inside. And I also wondered why Silva was not in there, he was playing his best game. Beat up the Beavers and you are a lot more likely to win.

He had two fouls yesterday and both were high intensity, in your face, physical defense and effort fouls. He basically hit sticked their PG for his first foul going for the ball. Gianni brought a lot of fire last night and while he still makes plenty of mistakes, he needs to see 30+ minutes a game.

I guess some of you are right we should accept mediocrity or worse after all if we were able to find a coach like a young Tony Bennett those of you that like mediocrity would gripe because that young coach would move on after bringing us off the floor and we would Have to search again. So Lets Just keep Wayne hell give him an extension. After all its the best we can ever do.
