Boky Vidic averaged 7.0 assists per game. Entering this year, Goodman is averaging 2.7 assists per game. Boky Vidic had 172 career steals in 78 games (2.7 spg); Goodman had 62 in 97 games (0.64 spg). So you are correct. When it comes to passing the basketball at the Pac-12 level, or taking the ball away from the other team at the Pac-12 level, she most definitely is no Boky Vidic. As long as Scott Rueck is coach those steal records will not be challenged. Rueck's game plan does not prioritize or emphasize steals - and rightfully so. Rueck has achieved unprecedented program success with bottom-of-the conference yearly steals totals. Agreed - and I think this has really hurt Jazz’s game. In her Aus film, she was really great at gambling to intercept passes and scoring on breakaways. She does not have the freedom to do this in Rueck ball.

Was a fun game to watch. Observations, most of which have been made here already: - Taya is still knocking the rust off (esp. in the passing game), but her positioning for rebounding was nice to see, and she is a stabilizing presence out there. The neat thing this year is with Mack and Subasic we can keep a Taya sized/skilled player out there all game long. She better get out the WD-40 because the Conference season is here.

The TV announcers referred to Sasha as a point guard several times...is this what CSR sees her as?? Is this her emerging role? She certainly is a great talent, and if she can competently play the position, wow!

In Talia's interview she's to be the PG, and Greta is the 2, so it seems Sasha is to be the 3 next year.

Well, it was fun to read everybodies thoughts. I really wonder how much defensive help at practise Taylor is getting. Refs were horrible tonite in our bugs. In fact they refed this game like it was a junior high game. In a side note, if Pac 12 refs call fouls like this enough to where it makes the league play soft. Then in the big dance they will play soft when no one in the rest if the country doesn't. So all the talent goes else where for the next year. Something to think about. Even a whisper in Taylor's ear to say, don't force your hands down into the ball when they shoot would rid her of fouling most times. She visibly is wanting to block more then just defend. Our gaps in the defensive zone need profecting. Most quick guards in our conference will brake it down otherwise. Another missing piece in our offense is Mack. She seems lost out there like the offense left her out.we can't afford for not to be getting double figures or Its waist. Last we need to find games where we have metrovich facing the basket not back to it. She would be much more useful seeing the hole court. The triangle offense is a great offense for three point shooting and running two posts in a high low. If she is at the top of the key facing the basket she could hit Taylor down low.

I thought that was generally a pretty solid performance from the team. Hollingshed is a handful, really like her game. Some additional thoughts: - Aleah “not a Pac-12 PG” Goodman looked very good. She was hitting shots and running the show at a high level. Even created her shot a few times. She’ll have to be durable this season, though a few other players stepped up when she was out. - Mack and Corosdale both do a nice job passing. They combined for 9 assists from the forward positions, which is solid. Hopefully Mack can build off of her offensive performance, and hopefully Corosdale can start knocking them down. - Jones was obviously limited by foul trouble. She needs to be smarter and more aware, but she’ll get there. We’ll need her for more than 11 minutes. - Goforth is a stud. Hit some clutch jumpers and defended on Sherrod at a high level. - Jelena “hopefully we don’t have to play her more than 10-15 minutes a night” Mitrovic ended up playing 18 minutes and had a solid Pac-12 debut for a freshman. Obviously a lot to work on, but if she can build off of this she should be a serviceable back up for Jones. - Jasmine really improved this off season. She’s starting to look more like the player we had expected her to be the best two years. I agree with everything except Corosdale’s passing; she made some really bad passes that were turnovers. Jelena had a tough first half, but really improved in the second half. I loved her hook shot and passing, but yes, she does need to show more determination holding onto the ball. Jelena needs to learn from Jones and keep the ball high. She did a good job getting the rebound and then brought the ball below her waist and literally handed the ball to Colorado. In the second half she did a better job of keeping the ball up and getting the ball out to the guards.

I don't know why but I'd be mildly surprised if Aleah played this whole season and still came back next season.

More seriously, From what I have seen on video, Talia is mostly a combo guard in High School who will hopefully play the PG well at OSU and I thought Sasha was mostly a 2 guard in High School, who appears will be able to play the combo guard well for OSU.

Agree with the Ref's comment, they just seemed too touchy and slowed the game (or dumbed it down at times). It reminds me of the passage in the bible when Jesus was riding the donkey on palm Sunday, all the people all the fuss as the donkey strode in with the king on his back. Apparently when he got to the stable you couldn't wipe the big grin off of his face and one of the other donkey's leaned across and told him "It ain't about you jackass"

Was pleasantly surprised by the Beavs progress from last game to this game. Better perimeter defense, even though Colorado would not be considered a great outside shooting team. I was really pleased with the progress Jelena made as the game progressed. It seemed to me that she was told to "change" shots, not "block" shots in the 2nd half. Jelena "changed" many shots in the 2nd half, and, grabbed 12 rebounds in 17 minutes (HUGE). Aleah is the centerpiece of our team. Runs the offense brilliantly. Knows when to be a scorer and when to assist. Mack is still figuring out where/how she contributes, but does have a beautiful stroke. Our defense progressed a great deal. Once Taylor figures out how to stay out of foul trouble, our defense will be even better. With Aleah, Sasha, and Jas on the floor, we are pretty fast, especially on the jail break. Let's keep it going Beavs. Let's roll Utah, gain some confidence, and go into the game Sunday with a load of confidence.

I was a little surprised that we didn't see Ellie at the 5 - at least for a few minutes to try it out. IIRC, she played a fair bit of 5 at Bucknell. After Jovana got her third foul, it seemed worth a try. Maybe Ellie could have neutralized some of Hollingshead's quickness.

In some ways I think it is WAY to early to make comments, but nevertheless, here's a few comments on the early season and addressing some thoughts from above.
It's only been 3 games, but Sasha is better than I thought she was. She's a baller. When you watch her, she just looks like a natural. In the discussion above there is talk about who the point guard is. Aleah brings the ball up more often, and appears in every way to be the main ballhandler on this team, but Sasha guarded Sherrod most of the time (Sherrod was 3-13 shooting by the way), and carried much of the load while Aleah sat.
Despite Savannah going 0-4 shooting, and zero rebounds in her 12 minutes, she is better than I anticipated as well. Nice find by SR, as she wasn't even a regular starter for her AAU team (although that AAU team had a bunch of 5 stars on it). I like what Savannah has shown early. It will be interesting to see how she fits in once even more guard talent comes on board next season.
Didn't it seem that Hollingshed was everywhere yesterday, yet she was actually 8-20 from the floor with only 5 rebounds. I guess if you are taking 20 shots, you are being pretty aggressive. Speaking of aggressive, Sasha has been more aggressive than I thought she would be this early in her career as well.
I'm not concerned about Ellie at this point. She not only has to get used to playing WITH talent that is as good or better than her, she has to get used to playing against Pac12 talent. She's one I expect to have a strong second half of the season. Just her 11 assist the last two games has impressed me. Taya is the one who I hoped to see more progress from. She's been away from real games for over a year. Hopefully she will get in the swing of things as the season goes along. She didn't have a strong shooting season as a sophomore, but her rebounding stepped up during Pac12 play. At the very least, we need that from her again.

I love the way Goforth leans ahead of her defender edging them out as she heads to the basket - it’s like she’s tunneling her way to the rim ! Aleah is doing a masterful job. Mitrovic just needs to settle in, she’s overthinking and being too deferential. I imagine her head is swimming with Rueck’s system initially. She has wonderful instincts, especially passing. Taya is not herself yet. Jasmine is beginning to blossom, hopefully her comfort level continues to grow. Every game they can play and we can watch is a blessing for our long winter ahead.
