USF game observations

The only obvious problem I saw in the last two games was a weakness in defending the 3pt shots. Both teams did almost all their scoring from the outside. At times it seemed like a lack of defensive intensity and other times errors in defensive rotation. Players seemed open and defenders were confused as to who needed to rotate to the shooter. Most of the other areas could not really be judged one way or the other considering how inexperienced the team is and not really being able to judge the level of their competition other than them being hot from distance.

Because of the multiple negative assessments, I feel I need to make a comment in respect to Jelenas last game. Had I only just witnessed that game I would have been even harder on her. She was outright sluggish, did not fight for, catch or hold on to the ball. Toward the end of her stint in the second half she did not even make it down court for some defensive sets. That would be my perspective had I not watched two complete games that she played in the Euro chanpionships two years ago along with her previous game. That leads me to believe that this game was a fluke. There was obviously something wrong with her. She is known for havng good hands and strength. Even Taylor defined her strengths as finess and strength. She not only did not show those qualities by looked really bad in those areas The telling point was not hustling down court at the end and falling with little contact. There was obviously something wrong with her. If I were Scott I would not even have played her in the second half. He could have gone small and still been taller than the opposition.

I always say You are never as good as your best game or as bad as your worst. Well this season should reveal if I was correct about mitigating circumstances being responsible for this last game. Was it a fluke or should we expect more of the same. Well we shall soon know.
