Just as importantly, does Avery Roberts return? I doubt stays....he’s an NFL ready ILB and after he leads the league in tackles and has the measurables he does, he’s gone He’s bad-ass! I love our linebackers this year! Just need help and they could dominate the game. IMO of course. Agreed! Speights and Roberts have it handled in the middle this year and Hughes-Murray has flattened people out there. Speights has an air about him...like he's just there to take care of business. For a true sophomore, he really looks and acts like a grizzled veteran.

He had a break away run with no one near him at the end of the game and got run down fairly quickly. But he may have been tired. He can hit the hole as good as anyone I can remember at OSUAgreed. I don't remember any back at OSU (since 1986) that has Jefferson's patience, vision and decision-making. The guy sometimes looks like he's just jogging to let the play develop in front of him. He also doesn't dance. It's usually just a move or two (sometimes none) and then he takes off. Kudos to T.J. Houshmandzadeh for sending Jefferson Smith's way! Its the part where he takes off that i think holds him back. There isn't much acceleration. I started this by saying I dont think he is an NFL caliber RB. I should have said NFL starting RB caliber. Of course he is good enough to play in the NFL. I just don't see him making much of an impact at that level. I could list 20 Pac 12 RBs with similar or better college success who haven't really amounted to squat in the NFL, starting with a few Duck RBs. Booker has been in league 5 years and still hasn't rushed for 1500 yards. Zack Moss, Kadeem Carey, LenDale White, Stepfan Taylor, Gerhart, Nall, etc. Then again, who guessed McCaffrey would be an NFL superstar. But as I said, I hope I'm wrong. Jefferson is a joy to watch play and root for.

Agreed with your assessment that are a lot of RBs (and other positions) who are awesome in college and don't make it in the NFL. It doesn't matter to me beyond the sense that I like to root for OSU players to make it. Beyond that, I'm just glad to have dudes that are outstanding college players in Corvallis.
