He had a break away run with no one near him at the end of the game and got run down fairly quickly. But he may have been tired. He can hit the hole as good as anyone I can remember at OSU I’m not so sure he was run down. He really slowed down when he looked over his shoulder, don’t recall seeing that from him in the past. Add to that the thought that we needed to burn time more than score and there may have been a bit of running out the clock going on. I couldn’t tell. It definitely looked like he slowed down to run clock. He ran a 4.43 earlier in the year during their practice combine day. Plenty fast enough for the NFL.

I know the time of a 40 yard dash is a standard used in football. But how often does a RB and especially a lineman run 40 yards in a play? I know Jefferson had two the other day but that was an anomaly. I'd rather know how quick both a lineman and a RB is at 10 yards. Hoping jermar stays but I doubt it.

After Terron Ward managed to last 3 years in the league (which I understand qualified him for the NFL pension), I gave up on predicting the things. That said, I think he gets drafted and gets a legitimate shot in the NFL ... I can't see him back if he stays healthy this year.

However, it all depends on where he goes and if he gets a shot.

In the post-game interview, he said that he was 50-50 on either going to score or just going down to secure the win. Decided on the second option which is why he slowed down.

An eleven point lead with less than a minute to go seems as if it would be "securing the win."

I'm wondering why Jonathan just elected to take a knee at that point. Why not give JJ another carry and a chance to crack 200 yards rushing?? And please, don't try to tell me that being a good sport will have have its rewards. With the Beaver's dismal football history, every other school in the conference has 'ran it up' on the Beavs.

An eleven point lead with less than a minute to go seems as if it would be "securing the win." Still comes down to not controlling the ball. Still gives the opportunity to drive, score, onside kick and score again... however unlikely. Going down there and taking knees eliminates that entirely, and a 100% chance of winning is better than a 99% chance of winning.

With the Beaver's dismal football history, every other school in the conference has 'ran it up' on the Beavs. because why risk a fumble for 4 yards? If JS was handing the ball off when he could take a knee and win I would be on these boards screaming the heavens about how stupid he was. There isn't a coach on this planet that would hand off over a knee, unless he had cleared the bench and was playing backups.

Just as importantly, does Avery Roberts return? I doubt stays....he’s an NFL ready ILB and after he leads the league in tackles and has the measurables he does, he’s gone

I've wondered about his speed, too, but the first play from scrimmage against Cal showed that he might be quite a bit faster than I thought he was. I think he has a shot at the NFL. He had a break away run with no one near him at the end of the game and got run down fairly quickly. But he may have been tired. He can hit the hole as good as anyone I can remember at OSUAgreed. I don't remember any back at OSU (since 1986) that has Jefferson's patience, vision and decision-making. The guy sometimes looks like he's just jogging to let the play develop in front of him. He also doesn't dance. It's usually just a move or two (sometimes none) and then he takes off. Kudos to T.J. Houshmandzadeh for sending Jefferson Smith's way!
