Jelena has been posting on Instagram of her being at a gym, so maybe she is a little ahead of the game as far as having accessibility to a gym and being able to get some work in.
She was a very highly regarded European prospect, and at times put up dominant numbers at FIBA youth tournaments against decent competition (Utah’s Lola Pendande and others). I’m not expecting her conditioning to be up to par, but I do hope she can provide Taylor rest in spurts (3-4 minutes would be perfect).
I would be shocked if she wasn’t ahead of Trish on the depth chart, assuming she is healthy to play. She is bigger and stronger, definitely has better instincts, should be a better defender, but not as mobile.

Well, Jo averaged 7 points her senior season, so 8 from the obviously more athletic and experienced Jelena isn't a ridiculous number. But . . . Jo also got close to 20 minutes per game - Jelena almost certainly won't get nearly that many.
Unless Taylor can move to the point . . . I liked what I saw in that little video she posted.

12 ppg? Ok, if it's not Ellie, who is going to score because this team is not going to average 40 points per game. Someone is going to score. Ellie is a seasoned, accomplished player who has a good shooting percentage, and can hit the three. I'll be surprised if anybody on the team other than Aleah or Taylor average more PPG than Ellie. It's always possible someone could have a 'better than Kobe type leap' and really step it up this season...Taya, Jasmine, Sasha, Trish, etc, but unless one of them ups their game andleaA]becomes a scorer for the Beavs, expect Ellie to average double figures. A 4 and a 5 can interchange in boys thought we might do that with Taylor. I didn't say Mack wouldn't be helpful. Taya is more comfortable facing the basket. Mack can post up. Taylor is a known point commodity from last year. Teams will try to stop her if they can. I'm trying to find ways that Taylor can get free looks is all.

If Aleah can continue to improve her inlet passes and Taya is back to form Taylor will get her shots. She plays way taller than she is. I'm hoping the others can also hit Taylor in the hands up high.

scubasteve - - thanks for your reply. But I was really hoping you could help me out with the questions that I asked in my post. What are the strengths of this year's team? And, what would the Beavs have to do to finish in the top 4 of the Pac this season? Do you have any insights to share on these topics? If so, I'd like to read them..... Go Beavs !! The main strength is it's OSU wbb! A strong system of player development, and disciplined play. A consistent staffing and one that espouses key fundamentals and team play to maintain a winning culture. That will all be tested this season. There are some mental and physical obstacles to overcome. But, hoping a such a solid staff can reinvent themselves a bit. I don't really care about * ratings. It's all about team and getting the parts to function as a whole. This aspect fell apart a bit last season. There's renewed effort to fix that. So, as others speak to the parts, the true strength of this program has been creating the team. It was done with far less hyped recruits, it can be done again. Right now OSU is just missing key pieces/depth. I think they are a year away, or more, depending on future recruiting at the PG and post to be a serious top 3/4 in the Pac12. Interesting ... I also do not see OSU in top 4 next year, definitely not top 3 in conference, unless some other teams fall off more than expected. But I still see OSU as a top 15-20 team ... and we know those are not mutually exclusive. I still see them as a 4-5 seed come tourney time again. A top Pac 3-4 finish is very optimistic in my view for next year's roster. If Brown/Aquino found a way onto the court, that would seem a little more plausible. Regardless, a top 20 finish is nothing to sneeze at, IMO, particularly taking into account the combination of graduation, transfer and injuries.

OSU, UO, WSU, UW, and ASU will likely be worse than last year.
Utah, USC, Arizona, and Stanford will be better.
I would expect Colorado, UCLA, and Cal to be about the same.
Cal adds a great class, but they also lost important pieces like Jaelyn Brown, Alasia Styles, and CJ West.

It's always hard to know how quickly new players will adapt to the system and the increased level of competition. So I have no real confidence in the following predictions but it's fun to think about. I'll take a shot.
I think our length and defense will carry us to a top 3 finish in the Pac-12. Ellie will not have trouble adapting to the increased competition level. Sasha will start-out more defensive minded but will be a growing offensive contributor, inside and out, as the season goes along. Savannah will provide solid relief minutes with a defensive focus. Jelena (not a newcomer but first playing time) will be a significant contributor on offense and there will be many times where she and Taylor are on the floor together (Jelena as the 4).
I predict balanced scoring something along these lines:
Taylor 14 Ellie 10 Aleah 9 Sasha 8 Taya 6 Jelena 6 Jaz 6 Savannah 4 Patricia 4

I am intrigued by the optimism expressed for how much Mitrovic will contribute as a frosh. If we can get 6 points per game from her in '20-'21, I will be ecstatic and the Beavs should be in good shape in the frontcourt with Jones, Mack, and Corosdale making their expected contributions.

Senior Goodman, and 4th yr. Junior Corosdale, combine for more than 15 points (essentially their career averages). With the loss of Mik and Destiny (last year combined average of 30 pts.), there will be some scoring slack to pick up. Those two will have definite leadership roles (besides being good friends) and I'm looking for a nice bump from one of them - or both.

I feel the same way about Mitrovic. Anything that we get from her will be a bonus, assuming that she is back on campus and cleared to compete. If she is skilled and agile enough to play the 4 as some posters have speculated, I will be thrilled.

It sounds like campus is going to open up soon and that travel restrictions are starting to be lifted.
I was really impressed that Jazz decided to stay instead of going home, that shows true commitment to the program. I have a feeling that she is going to breakout this season.

I hope that Simmons had a place to shoot and train during the past two months. I had heard that OSU training facilities weren't open to student-athletes during most of that period. Anyone know how or where the WBB athletes who remained in Corvallis were able to train?

I used to have a court but it got replaced with a garden long ago, ah well. Could have had the team playing in my back yard LOL.

The fact that they were posting about trying to find a place is a bit disconcerting. I saw that the Goodmans have a nice sport court for basketball at their home near Oregon City. For Simmons and others who remained in Corvallis during the quarantine, they likely had to scramble to find the training and shooting opportunities that they have been accustomed to at the Basketball Center next to Gill.
