goforth might be a better rebounder then Pevic cuz she penetrates alot and helps out rebounding! Whoa, pump the breaks there. Pivec is the leading rebounder in school history. I'd say it's VERY unlikely Goforth will prove to be a better rebounder. It would be nice if it were true.

If Goforth can gather 5 boards per game from the 2 position, I think that the OSU coaching staff would take that in a heartbeat. Jones has a solid chance to set the all-time OSU rebounding record if she stays healthy and can average about 8 boards per game for the rest of her career. Pivec's hold on that school record my be limited to three years.

Brown was grabbing boards at a nice clip too but getting injured when she did could keep her from climbing too far up the career list. Lost quite a few games from her Fr. season but injured too late to get an additional year of eligibility.

Not to diminish Pivecs accomplishments because she had a real nose for the ball and that is essential to rebounding for a non post player. As even she admitted in an interview some of her numbers came via the system that Oregon St played which allowed her to go for the ball pretty much on most plays. I would say that was an excellent use of her talent. How well Goforth does rebounding might depend on if they give her the same role and green light that were afforded Pivec. What will be key is if she has even close the instincts for the ball that Pivec had. Having a green light means very little if you don't have the instincts to know where to go.

I'm aware that you've claimed that Mik was set up for rebounds. I'm unaware of her ever saying this. Do you remember when/where this happened?

I don't recall her saying that either, although she was always quick to credit teammates in general. But I will say that she often didn't have to bother blocking out for D boards, as her offensive player was dropping back, as guards often do. She could therefore hunt the ricochet points, while our bigs have to (or supposed to anyway) first block out at a spot. So that would have helped her for sure, but certainly doesn't account for the overall astronomical number - especially since she got a lot of offensive boards as well. Her combination of a nose for the ball, strength to get there and will to posses it was a unique combo. I don't see her record being challenged unless we have an an aggressive, very athletic big (i.e. strong, good hops) with the same instincts.
