Wouldn’t be surprised if they cancelled all of the tournaments at this point.
If you want to look at a dark positive aspect. It may prevent the ucks from their 1st title.

Roughly 300,000 to 600,000 people worldwide die of the flu each year, with approximately 10% of them in the United States. Yet we don't cancel everything when flu season starts. This is overreaction to the nth degree. I'm no epidemiologist, but based on reading stuff from those who are, it's less than useful to make that argument. As I understand it, COVID-19 has a higher fatality rate, especially for certain populations, than the flu; plus, the COVID-19 virus spreads more aggressively than the flu, in part because it can last longer on surfaces, in the air, etc.; plus there is not yet a vaccine - nor will there be for more than a year - to protect the certain populations who are more susceptible to this aggressively transmitted disease. We are at the beginning of the outbreak of this disease, and them what study diseases and pandemics seem to be agreeing that we should be reacting with something other than "but the flu..." Yes, large numbers are killed annually by the flu - which is why so MANY people take the flu seriously, and get vaccinated, etc. They are predicting a fatality rate that can be from ten to fifty times the flu rate, so, with respect, I don't think based on those numbers we are overreacting. If anything, this nation has under-reacted thus far - but now that Tom Hanks is infected and the NBA has suspended the rest of the season, maybe the hoi poloi will finally pay attention. (as if...) |

Odds are looking very likely that there will not be March Madness at this point - fans or no fans in the stadium.

As tough as cancellation would be for the athletes - seems to me that they could possibly be at highest risk. Yes, they are young and are projected to be able to recover and are not in danger of a fatal event - however, they become carriers and can affect others given their public activities.
In business and in life, you assume a position of either risk taking , utilizing calculated risks, or avoiding any risk as it has been scientifically defined and historically examined. We are in uncharted territory. My default , given this situation is to error 100% on the side of caution and avoid contact with potential carriers until we get a scientific 'call' on a substantially reduced risk.
Call this crazy over- reaction , but, I just do not see any upside to following my normal everyday activities.

With Pac12 and university stances OSU stepped in 5A tournament done. As it should be. However, 6A girls proceeding as scheduled at UP, boys to follow. At this writing same with 4A at Forest Grove HS. Some here like to share their disdain for the NCAA, being a college board it makes sense. But, the OSAA is a giant piece of horse, cow, etc etc excrement as humanly possible to run high school activities. Paycheck administrators that have continually fail in multiple areas. Fence sitters supreme, highly influenced by big money parents and sponsors. Rant over... |

How close do you think it will be adhered to. There will be abuse. This is Uncle Phil, yes he looks just like Mr Knight but honestly is an Uncle. He is essential...eye rolls.
On O-live mens Pac-12 tournament says essential personnel, family and "friends"?
The word friend stuck out unless it was an o-live mistake.
Could a big donor mean friend and is an top athletic director essential over the womens AD and how many others on department staff are essential? If the team arrives at Gill will there be a throng of fans wishing them well when they arrive outside or leave afterwards? Can they play piped in crowd noise, can they play piped in band songs at break? During a time out do you have to whisper to the team so the other team does not over hear the coach? Do you walk on court and start playing or do you still announce the players at introductions? I hope the 80+ year old Mr Knight attends as many large public gatherings as his heart desires. |
