“I feel like we’re in the best position right now that we’ve been in probably all year. I think this team is in a nice rhythm right now.” SR
As down as some have been on this team, and as many injuries as they are having to deal with, the Beavs have been in just about every game this year. Currently sitting with a 2-7 record in games decided by 10 or less (and one loss by 12), the question becomes, does this team have what it takes to turn things around these next few weeks? Had the Beavs gone 7-2 in those close games, most of us would be feeling pretty good. Even if the Beavs had won 4 or 5 of those games there would be more reason for optimism. 2-7 though, leaves many to doubt this team can bounce back.
Which leads to SR's comment above. It's been a long time since the Beavs entered this time of year with 8 losses, and at least 3 'bigs' hobbled by injuries. Then there is Kat (love her to death) who has yet to return to form after her devastating ACL injury a year ago. Yet, through all of this SR proclaims "I feel like we're in the best position right now".
I'm an always hopeful guy, and I do recognize the talent on this team. Mik and Destiny are as good a backcourt tandem as any in college basketball. Aleah and Kat have the talent to go on a long streak of hitting 3's. Taylor is proving she can rebound, block shots, and put the ball in the basket, while Maddie is a heady senior who can do many things well. Having not lost a game by more than 12 all season shows this team can hang with the solid teams you encounter this time of year, but still 2-7 in close games loomes.
If this team is in the 'nice rhythm' and 'best position' as coach says, now is the time to turn those close losses into wins. I don't know what will happen. I do know I wouldn't want to be a team that had the face the Beavs in the Pac 12 tourney, or the early rounds of the NCAA. There is every reason to believe the Beavs will be a tough out. The question is, can they get over the top? Can they turn the close games into close wins? Will they have mental toughness after all those losses? We'll find out soon, and I'll cling to hope and root them on. Here's to hoping Coach is right!

Look... I'm not sure the definition of "run" each of us will use, but I'm not seeing this team meet the early expectations.
We all love SR and the WBB team, but the 8 losses bring forth far more questions than answers.
Of course 7-2 vs 2-7 would change the outlook! But, they went 2-7. And, what else is SR supposed to say, "We suck and we're out of rhythm, don't know if we're going to get it back. "?
Just as, "Why not us?" It's coach speak.
As for Mik... she's been very up and down lately, mainly with turnovers and getting herself into trouble with trap dribbles. But, it's because she's trying to do too much. Because, she's not part of the best backcourt. Destiny has completely disappeared at times, dominated at others.
This team has 8 losses because no one has played up to and over their ability on a consistent basis. What could have been, hasn't.
And, sure, they can make a run. But, that's the point. They're the team having to do so, and close game results show that they are having issues closing.
Good news, they're IN. Nice feeling.

This season feels like one Rueck needed for his coaching and the program's progression. Even with all his success, the program still was able to operate as the underdog, which has a lot of advantages. This season, while OSU wasn't the favorite, they were expected to be in the mix as the big 3, and OSU was the only one to not live up to that billing. It's a different mentality to manage throughout the season. Mix in all the injuries, and it's a difficult mixture for a coaching staff to manage.
If they make it to the sweet 16, I would view it as an outstanding job on the whole. Elite 8 would be a tremendous accomplishment. Regardless, I think this season will pay a lot of dividends for this staff moving forward, as it seems they faced challenges that they hadn't seen before, including things like being called the number 1 overall seed early in the season.

I think baseba1111 summed it up pretty well....He nailed it when he writes: "This team has 8 losses because no one has played up to and over their ability on a consistent basis. What could have been, hasn't."
When I read coach's comment: "I feel like we’re in the best position right now that we’ve been in probably all year. I think this team is in a nice rhythm right now” I immediately took it as coach-speak...But I understand the need for it....It's hot hocus-pocus, it's not whistling in the dark...It's Rueck's way of being upbeat and encouraging...There's not a lot of options this time of year.
When you're a hard core Beaver fan, like almost everyone on this board, it's hard to handle a set of losses like our team has gone thru the past few weeks....Both of the LA losses were heart breakers for us fans, but hopefully, not spirit-breakers for the team... I think we've all come to realize that this team is not what we hoped it would be (or thought it would be) when we were 14-0.....
I agree with beaverstever that making it to the Sweet 16 would be an awesome achievement considering how the team has performed in February....And it would be a tribute to the team's toughness.... But right now we've got the Washington schools to deal with.... GO BEAVS !!

Hopefully Rueck's coaching move in the Cal game, sitting Pivec/Destiny/Jones at the beginning on the 2nd half, woke up the team. OSU will be just fine, if we have all players shoot the ball when they have a clean look. What good does it do to work so hard to get a clean look and then pass up the shot? I don't often scream at the TV, but when Maddie, Jas, and others, pass up a wide open shot, it usually results in a bad shot, no shot, or worse, turnover. Rueck's move in 2nd half of the Cal game was brilliant. As long as we are getting offensive scoring contributions from more than Pivec/Destiny/Jones, OSU is going to be fine.

In the Beav's four wins over ranked teams there were only two guards who had a good scoring game. They are a good defensive team and still doing a good job rebounding. It seems that the other teams are going after one of Destiny or Mik to make sure that only one can score. This limits what they can do. If another player steps up I think they will win, just hope that there is someone up to the job. GO BEAV's

Rueck's move in 2nd half of the Cal game was brilliant. As long as we are getting offensive scoring contributions from more than Pivec/Destiny/Jones, OSU is going to be fine. Unforunately it didn't serve it's purpose. The idea was to create more ball movement and it did for a while. That is until Pivec and Destiny got back in the game and they went right back to taking turns driving to the basket with out one attempt to pass. Fortunately they were successful and basically scored every time. However that will not happen against the better defensive teams and those shots are not always going to drop-- then what. This team might win some games by a comfortable margin, but they can just as easily lose games they should win because their offense stalls as it has done far too often this season. It would be nice if players had a few more chances to get open looks, but that requires ball movement. After they returned to the game Pivec and Destiny traded off working exclusively for their own shots. I did not count how many offensive possessions they traded off before anyone else even touched the ball, but it was quite a lot. There is nothing wrong with going one on one, but there is a time and a place. This type of play reminds me of what happened to Sabrina the summer before and her Sophomore season in high school. She has spent the summer between her frosh and soph seasons playing on the USA team, who had a coach who did not know how to utilize a loaded and talented team, rather she stressed individual play. Sabrina came back as a total ball hog and her AAU and high school team underachieved. Of course she put up really impressive stats. You guys should have read and heard how I raked her over the coals. Well under her high school and AAU coach, by the next AAU season she was back to normal. Not only did her AAU team win the EYBL championship they dominated the entire season. And her high school team over achieved and finished second in the NorCals. It is almost a shame that both Destiny and Pivec were so effective in the second half because it negated the message they were supposed to learn.

If he thought that Slocum and Pivec were shooting every time they had the ball, he needs to rewatch the game on the PAC-12 Network. Ionescu shoots more shots per game than Slocum. All of Oregon's Big 3 shoot more often than Pivec. Someone has to shoot for OSU. I grow weary of willtalk's analysis. Slocum and Pivec average close to 5 assists each per game. They are not ballhogs. Both Slocum and Pivec have efficient field goal percentages, especially for guards. I don't really care that willtalk "raked Sabrina over the coals." She is a smart enough player not to listen to willtalk. Ionescu knows when to assert herself and when to create shots for others. She didn't listen to willtalk and then change the way she played. Read how ridiculous that cause and effect inference is above.

Destiny and Mik 5th and 6th in Pac-12 in assists. A lot of assists for a couple of ball hogs. 5 & 7 assists in this game.

I sure saw great ball movement in the game vs UW. It created a lot of open looks. MW still hesitated a few times, Janessa passed up wide open looks and a wide open driving lane, but other than that, Aleah and Kat got great open looks last night, and let it fly.

Agreed. He took shots via posts at Wiese on this Board three years ago. I would prefer that he stick to facts and not try to convince others of what OSU players need to do differently. He really doesn't care for point guards who shoot.
