Did you watch the most recent game. One guard dominated and it could have been worse with some wide open misses.
Without looking back in detail, the Morris kid from DePaul had 28 or 29 as G/W. Missouri State kid, think she was a Guard, had 20+. Williams for Furd had a 17 point night. Quick guards have hurt OSU consistently for several seasons... scoring, steals, drawing and dishing.
McDonald shot 8/23 against OSU this last Sunday. She did hit 3 three-pointers in the third quarter that kept Arizona within a point at the end of the quarter.
I believe that the most impressive performance by a guard against OSU this season was DePaul's Morris as has been posted above. She had the green light to shoot in that game. OSU won that game by 20+ points. For the most part, OSU has contained opposing guards pretty well this season with respect to limiting their scoring and shooting percentage.

Our offense in "crunch time" (minus the ASU game miracle) has been our Achilles heel. Our defense has been respectable in crunch time (even in our losses).

I'm sorry, USC doesn't scare me at all, regardless of our current injury situation. We will beat SC. UCLA is another question! I liked our chances prior to Brown getting hurt. Not so sure now.
Go Beavs!

Plant Maddie underneath at the five. Move mobile Taylor to the four, and utilize her excellent medium range shooting ability. Try a double high post with guards flashing underneath.
In these difficult times, we should do what football commonly does: cleanse and alter stagnant or injury-riddled offenses with new offensive coordination and strategy. And, much as I hate to say it, quit dreaming about Trish. Coach has shown very little willingness to increase her playing time, in November and December cupcake time, or in comfortable conference games, this year and last.

It would be intriguing to see Taylor play the 4 and/or at the high post with some frequency. She has made her living this season in the paint, but perhaps could expand her range and come out to 10'-12' to set screens and force an opposing big to leave the paint. Would like to see something new offensively for the team that includes midrange shots in lieu of end-of-the-shot clock three-pointers.

Go Beavs! I’m concerned about USC. They beat UCLA and lost by 1 to ASU in triple OT. They won’t be a pushover.

Respect every opponent, fear no one. USC is a team that has some weapons. OSU will be ready on Friday. If the Beavs execute their offense, they have a good chance to pick up a conference road win on Friday.
One game at a time...

To keep it simple to a couple of the above posts:
- Taylor is not that mobile. Nor shown any consistent shooting from 10-12'. I'm betting 95% of her scoring is from 3' and in.
- the more she's away from the hoop setting screens the more opportunities for cheap fouls. She got called on at least one vs Zona, but I saw at least 3 others where she either pivoted early into the oncoming defender, or extended her arms/ elbow and caught a defender neck high.
What you don't do with an injury situation is compound it by putting players in unfamiliar positions. Subs should be able fill 7pts/7reb and use 10-15 fouls on D.
Keep everyone where they belong and are accustom for this season.

I'm curious, if Taylor is "not that mobile" then why do you think she scores so much when she is not double teamed?
I agree that Taylor's screening ability is a work in progress.
Both PF's are out for the season. Someone is going to have to be in an "unfamiliar position" to take their place.

She scores vs single coverage mainly because she's fairly long and a big body. It's certainly not with the overall mobility needed facing up at 10-12'+. But, that's my opinion. Actually we have players that play the 4.

Taylor and Trisha may have taken very few reps at the 4 position and may not know the offensive plays from the 4. The 4 position requires competent passing in OSU's offense. Trisha and Taylor aren't likely to be on the court at the same time for offensive plays due to both playing the 5 position. I was simply hoping to get more length on the floor for the Beavs. The versatility that the 6'6" Kennedy Brown provided to OSU by playing the 4 is even more apparent during her absence.

If it is just Taylor's length and big body then why did she score 21 points against Hebert? There are taller/larger posts Hebert has gone against who had no such luck. And no, I'm not pretending I understand her success, but it seems to me that a quick first step might be part of it.
And on who plays the 4. SR keeps saying he likes to figure out these puzzles. Wish him all the luck with figuring this one out.

I can remember several baskets in two games that Hebard was no where to be seen. I can remember more than a couple she laid in without any move or person guarding her. This isn't a discussion on Taylor being deficient. She is a 5 at this point in her career. She has no real face up game, nor really adept at scoring of any type of drive from 10-15'. Mik has played the 4 going small... add Janessa and Maddie.

You seem to confuse discussion with arguing. If you think I'm calling for Taylor to be the 4 then I'll say I'm not and leave it at that.

I see it as being pretty damn simple.
We have Two 5's Taylor and Trish Two 4's Maddie and Janessa Six guards Maddie could help at the 5 but she starts at the 4 Mik could help at the 4 but she starts at the 2
A season of attrition.
