Did you read the Community section of the two duck biographies? Not to disparage the two gals, but compared to the service Pivec has performed, it’s a complete joke. But congrats on standing up for the two. As usual, you’re a big man. Lol... not standing up for anyone. Simply chiding idiots who disparage others who had nothing to do with the selection process. And in the name of someone who'd never stoop to such immaturity and classless behavior. You are the only idiot here. So signing autographs after a game is more impressive than 200+ (probably +++) hours of community service helping out the boys and girls club, homeless shelter, women's center, and others. She also makes it easy for other athletes to help out when they may not have on their own.

I have no idea, but I suspect Pivec doesn't really care that much, if at all - she's not doing what she does in the community a trophy. But I do like seeing Scott fired up to have a player's back - that's a very appealing attribute for someone looking for character traits of a future coach.

No... actually idiots think: - disparaging others is promoting Mik; - continuing to make online comparisons matter when Mik's achievements were never in question. Thank goodness Mik and those in the program don't think and act like you and are much better role models. But, our group here at breakfast does enjoy the opportunity to read such dribble... gives us plenty of fodder!

I don’t know anything about the others and am staking my opinion solely on SR’s opinion, which I trust. If Mik’s omission is so blatant, this award being a popularity contest/marketing avenue is a legitimate conclusion, not to degrade those other ladies in any way. They are just the means to some others ends. "They are just the means to some others ends" Classy... thanks for representing Beaver Nation with such class. Misinterpreted. If it is a popularity contest or marketing avenue, that is how they are using them. Has nothing to do with how I view them and I certainly don’t think they should be viewed that way. What I’m getting at; what other valid reason is there to not have her on this list? SR, any many on this board, seem to think it is an outrage. What you think; why isn’t Mik on that list? Are the others more qualified, or is something else going on? I know you don’t know, just curious of your opinion.

Most all awards are political in some way. And, most adults know that. And, most mature fans can show their displeasure by citing the merits of Mik without a dismissive comparison, or worse disparaging others. It may be an OSU board and not "nationally" read, but some of these posts diminish what it is to be a Beaver supporter. My opinion... and I'm consistent on every board when it comes to disparaging opponents. But, funny the posts here were not only not knowledgeable (like the online summary is all that was considered), but only focused on the "undeserving" uck players? Hmmmm

He went on record saying it pissed him off and he went so far as to say he compared the resumes of those selected. Not too different than what I’m seeing on here, but no, he did not call out any ducks. Pretty natural reaction when you are not a beneficiary of what is viewed as unfair treatment. I’m not saying there is a direct link here, so maybe off topic, but Nike’s quest for finding/building the next Michael Jordan and using their college farm system to do it is annoying. Can’t we just play basketball, and let kids compete? I’m willing to forgive a little duck hate for that as long as we are respectful of the players.

I read em all. SI's stands uniquely apart from every single other one of the 30 semifinalists for listing exactly zero community service activities, aside from signing autographs after games and thanking her fans. The shameless chutzpah of the uo athletic dept to even put her name forward for the award, and then extrude that pathetic "community service" description in support of it is appalling. But sadly, not surprising. In a lot of ways, it's the difference between these two schools in a nutshell.

(I know ... auto-correct/predictive-text, right? Lol)
Clearly no pun intended.
No... your highness of idiocy... it's a basketball board. Some levity interjected. But, then again you seem to know the intentions of others. Lol

I have to agree that the community service descriptions for the 2 UofO candidates are very weak, especially in comparison to what SR outlined about Pivec at the end of the presser. Signing autographs is the best thing they can say about Sabrina and Ruthie??? Wow. Several of the other candidates are kind of weak in this category as well.

I only read Ruthie's, Sabrina's, and Mik's. Nothing against Ruthie or Sabrina personally, as I'm sure they're fine people, but their "resumes" for this award consist almost entirely of basketball accomplishments. Ruthie's on track to graduate this spring? So are several hundred others playing their 4th year of D1 basketball. She signs autographs and made friends with a kid? Once again, the same could no doubt be said of hundreds of others.
I am reminded of President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize just after he was elected. At that point in his career, he had done nothing and seen no accomplishments that would have or should have even merited consideration for such a prestigious honor. The result, at least in my mind, was a total diminishment of the award itself, then and forever. I no longer pay any attention to the Peace prize announcement. Some of you might have seen on the internet a photo of a sign in front of a Jiffy Lube somewhere. It read, "Free Nobel Peace Prize with Oil Change."
That's pretty much how I now view this Senior CLASS Award. It's a bunch of nothing.

Something tells me you never paid much attention to the Nobel Peace Prize prior to its award in 2009. For anyone who is interested a more objective assessment of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Award: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Nobel_Peace_Prize
