Hey, things aren't *that* bad. The football program is definitely trending up. While it does appear that if this season doesn't end in the postseason that we should think about making a change in basketball, even that isn't at its nadir.

I just don't feel like an NCAA tournament every 3-4 years should be THAT much to ask. The issue goes far beyond the current coaching staff and roster. This is an institutional issue and the current team and staff are products of that. There's a long LONG history of futility in both major collegiate sports that has to be overcome. We can celebrate the successes of our minor sports all we want, but when it comes down to it no one outside of our little bubble cares. From a national perspective, the sports that matter and generate revenue are men's basketball and football. Until the AD/university figures that out then this is going to continue. The university has changed presidents, ADs, coaches, and players for decades. The one constant is the fans - too many of us have low expectations and make excuses for poor performance. Too many fans say that we're too poor, too wet, too cold, too isolated, have no airport, no night life, don't cheat, etc. and otherwise just cannot compete to excuse the poor results.
If we don't demand better, we won't get better. It doesn't matter. The California legislation allowing athletes to earn money off their celebrity is the beginning of the end of college sports. Here is the scenario: No 4-5 star athlete in California will go outside of the state to play sports. 4-5 star athletes from other states will to to California universities and colleges. Either the NCAA will expel those colleges and universities OR other states will follow suit making college teams semi-pro. Taxpayer will refuse to put money into profit-making sports teams. Ten years, fifteen at the most.

I was in a bar in N. Portland watching this game.....middle of second half there was a ball off the backboard on WSU's side, where if Kelly even reaches out a HAND, he grabs the rebound...he stood there flat footed, while a Cougar player cam flying in with hustle and grabbed it. We were down 5 at the time.....securing that ball was crucial...instead, WSU takes it and drains a prayer 3. Game, for all intents and purposes, over. Even the people I was with, who aren't basketball people were like, "wait, what? Why didn't the big guy grab that?" That little moment in time captured for me why Kelly is not the player we really need him to be....tons of unrealized potential.

I watched the Cougs get an offensive rebound in the paint on a ball that hit the floor. HTF does that happen. Easy answer: No f'ing hustle.

If we don't demand better, we won't get better. I don't know if I agree with this statement. When Riley's last tenure in football started to take a downturn, the grumbling from the fans--against our winningest coach in, at the time, nearly 40 years--got louder and he bolted to Nebraska before things really hit the fan. For the last 30 years, OSU has replaced its basketball coach every 4-6 years, trying to get better. That's because the fans complain to the administration after the coaches fail, one after another. Tinkle is probably next, but he got a little extra because he is the first dude to get OSU to the NCAAs in over 35 years and earned another shot. I think our school keeps trying, but just have not had the luck. A lot of the coaches we've hired just didn't work out as hoped. What can the fans do? I think the most we can do is give more or demand more spending on the revenue spends, more in line with our rivals. But OSU can only do so much as we only have so big of a budget. Screaming and "demanding" will only go so far. But I'll admit, the statistics of our losing streak in men's basketball seems … out there.

If we don't demand better, we won't get better. Yeah, the fans make the team suck. Right. Unless you have about 15 million in cash lying around, you have no say in anything

Is it that Kelly isn’t the player we need or that our coaches are not able to develop the talent they get? i honestly think we have been playing below our potential for the past three years or more. That’s on the coaches.

Not me. Big Dance or bust. This is a very disappointing season of missed opportunities. Only chance is that anyone could win the PAC 12 tourney this year. But OSU would have to be able to win two big games in a row to win the Pac-12 tourney. I've not seen that team. Mmmmm... make that three! As unlike last year this team is not finishing in the top 4.

As I have said Colorado and Arizona were aberrations. How could anyone believe this team would be better this year when they had nobody recruited or off last year's bench to replace Stevie Thompson?
