Does talking to one of the coaches count as more than speculation?

Does talking to one of the coaches count as more than speculation? It certainly does. We welcome that kind of direct info on this message board. Two thumbs up if that is indeed the case.

Slocom has limitations she is good but it not unselfish she forces stuff without a clear vision of the court. Kinda me first but not a bad addition. But limited. They might try Jasmine at point she is fast and could break down a press then turn the ball over to half court set up person. Got to go with natural speed sometimes over your best shooters. Anyone who thinks Jasmine Simmons should start at point guard over Destiny is trippin’.

Jelena playing a few minutes or more tomorrow would be welcomed. I hope that beav74's source is a good one.

Can Jalena play in a game or two and still redshirt? Redshirting might be best because of the log jam of young bigs?

Can Jalena play in a game or two and still redshirt? Redshirting might be best because of the log jam of young bigs? No. Football redshirt rules don't apply to other sports. True. If Jelena should play at any point the rest of this season, she would be using a season of eligibility. That is, barring any unforeseen exception to the current medical hardship rules. With the NCAA, one can't completely rule out an exception to the current rules. I do believe and hope that we may see Jelena compete in a game at some point this season. Until we hear otherwise from Coach Rueck, I will continue to hold out hope that her presence will at some point this season make a positive impact for the Beavs.

As I mentioned before, the benefit of the redshirt year for Jelena is contingent on her actually spending 5 years in Corvallis.... Having an extra year of eligibility means nothing if you're not in Corvallis to use it.
To me it seems common-sense that Jelena and her family have already formulated a plan on her living abroad. That plan may be based on 4 years, it may be based on 5.... My point in writing this is simply to point out that her redshirt decision may not be based on (a) what is best for the team, (b) what is best for spacing of the Bigs.... If her plan is to stay at OSU is 4 years...then coach may utilize her as late as mid-February, perhaps even March, if he feels she can make an important contribution...
Just a few things to think about when assessing a redshirt season for Jelena.... GO BEAVS !!

I went into the game last night hoping Jelana might play. After the introductions, all the reserves had their warm-ups off except one--Jelena. She never for a moment looked like she thought she might come in.

This post didn’t age very well with Rueck going deep early with the game still in question and Simmons and Morris playing very well. I do wish Morris had seen minutes vs ASU given how physical she is and how she played last night, but ASU may have gotten to her as well, even worse ... I just would have liked her to have had the chance. At the very least, her fresh legs would have absorbed some of ASU’s endurance.
Funny how playing a weaker team suddenly makes our bench look just fine.

Last night, Morris was at her best, regardless of the level of the competition. She still needs to post harder and hold her position longer on the block. She gave up too early on some set plays last night that were designed to get her the ball in the paint. Morris has the frame to help this team against better competition. Would love to see her show some kind of toughness when her opponent is being nasty to her.

Nailed it.....Jas & Trish are making progress (good to see), but they're both a long ways from being in the same league as any of the current starters.... GO BEAVS !!

Progress is the important factor. Both members of the Sophomore class have slowly increased their minutes from last season (Jasmine from 8.6 mpg last year to 12.1 mpg this season; Trish from 5.0 to 7.5). That's modest for sure, but it gives hope that with 2-1/2 seasons left during their college years, that one of them, or both, will become important contributing members of the Beavs WBB team.
