We are truly seeing one of the best players in the country in Mik Pivec leading osu to the top of the Pac-12. If Mik were to lead osu to the final four just like Jamie Weisner did,who would you take at off guard between the two? Just a fun question comparing two elite players in the Scott Rueck era...thoughts???

That's tough. Jamie better outside shooter but Mik has a much better overall game. Choice: Mik

I loved Jamie's fire...Mik does it in a calm way. I'm going with Mik too,but both were elite...

Mik, and it’s not that close. More than any player in the Rueck era, including Jamie, Weiss, etc., she embodies team play and versatility.

I will say this...Jamie was Pac-12 POY,Pac-12 tournament mvp,regional NCAA tournament MVP...second team All-American...17.3 ppg and 5.6 reb

Its true Jamie was a POY etc.. But in all honesty the PAC 12 has more talented teams and players currently.

UA has their WBB radio broadcasts archived for listening so I listened this morning. In the pregame interview Barnes was very complementary but at one point she said that Pivec “was not exceptionally athletic”. That’s a jaw-dropper. Hey Adia, that girl is more of an athlete by far than anyone you’ve got on your team, that includes your star player. Mik is an Exceptional athlete with a capital E.
Maybe it was just a slip of the tongue.

This has long been a problem with the word "athletic". I recall when Larry Bird was at his peak and people would occasionally say that he was not "athletic", because he did not have the raw foot speed or leaping ability of some of the players in the league at the time. Sports Illustrated did a story on him, talking to a bunch of scouts, and they all said "he's the most athletic forward in the league." He has a quick first step, he's strong as an ox, he has lightening quick hands, he can jump more than you think but he prefers being on the floor where he can be more effective, and he has more 48 minute endurance than any player in the NBA.
This is similar to Mik. The game-winning move was 100% the move of a world-class athlete, using her strength and quickness to beat a player who is also a great athlete, and doing this 38 minutes into a game where most players are dragging. Announcers like to credit her for being smart enough to be where the rebound is going to land, and maybe this is true, but several times a game she soars above smaller players to get rebounds. I have seen her get her hands over Taylor Jones for a rebound.
This, my friends, is an athlete the likes of which does not come around very often.

One of the greatest athletes OSU has seen since MBB final four forward and AAU National decathlon champion Steve Pauly (before my time but his accomplishments are amazing).

It was no where close to traveling.

markarmour04 - thanks for pointing out how the word "athletic" is used in a narrow sense by most basketball commentators, and by many sports fans... In basketball "athletic" is often used as a synonym for a player who is a good leaper, has excellent horizontal quickness, and fast hands. All of which are "athletic" but not the totality of it.... Pivec is highly athletic even though she doesn't rank very high in the attributes promoted in the current use of that term...
Muscle-wise she's first class. When there is contact the other person bounces, not her. In basketball this is a big deal. Very big. Likewise, a point often missed is that when Pivec "anticipates" the location of a rebound and gets to it first - that unto itself is a form of athleticism in the same way that a great goalie anticipates the flight of the puck and gets his glove to point A before the puck arrives....
At any rate, markarmour04 did a really good job pointing out how athletic the great Larry Bird was - even though he did not fit the narrow usage of this term as currently in style.... GO BEAVS !!

An excellent cross over move using her body to keep the defenders at bay.

Mik is probably physically stronger than most other players she faces on the court, and certainly probably never matches up with another guard who is as strong. Pivec has some hops too and it would not surprise me if she had the highest vertical on the team. She's plenty athletic, but as you say, "athletic" is too often equated with " quickness" like a Jordan Canada or Aari McDonald.
