Arizona beats ASU in Tempe 58-53. 1-0 in conference. Still undefeated at 12-0. Zona is young and scrappy. They come after folks on D.

I'll bet coach is glad this one is over with and in the record books....
The Beavs played poorly on offence in just about every conceivable way...Poor passing, too many turnovers, weak 3-point shooting, sloppy entry passes into the post, etc. etc.... No telling what the post-game locker room is like....I don't imagine anyone is very happy with today's performance...Happy with the win but not with how they got it.
So the Beavs win ugly against a so-so opponent...The good news is that when it's this ugly it usually results in a 10 point win at most.... Goodman's game has been off lately which is very unusual - I really hope it springs back this coming weekend....
These games happen to every team but they're frustrating...Good teams muscle their way thru them - and that's exactly what the Beavs did today....
It's going to be Big Girl basketball the next 3 months..... GO BEAVS !!

Nothing at all to base that on, just idle speculation.

We'll see how they hold up playing the 2 Oregon schools back to back. Even if it's at home, that's the number 2 and 3 teams in the country. On the men's side, that would be like playing Duke on Thursday and Kansas on Saturday. It's just a load, no matter who you are.

Their coach has done a fab job so far. As far as rankings... kinda a double edged sword. They really mean nothing yet put a huge target on your back. Cliche, (too much so neither is easy) but, much easier to get to OSU's level than stay there.

Goodman only played 19 minutes today, taking just two shots and had 3 fouls and 2 turnovers. Those aren't typical numbers for a player that usually plays significant minutes. Tudor played 27 and Simmons played 23 minutes today and were the beneficiaries of Goodman's customary playing time.
Perhaps we will see more of Slocum at the point creating for Aleah and others in PAC-12 play. That may free Aleah up more to have some quality outside looks for shots. She is being scouted to be hounded consistently when she has the ball at the top of the offense and hasn't been able recently to create much separation and many shots for herself.
Goodman should be taking more than 2 shots per game. Even Slocum and Pivec today were limited to 7 shots each. However, Slocum and Pivec can both drive effectively to create shots for themselves. Goodman may benefit from some time in the corner to stretch the defense with her strong shooting from beyond the arc.
We can count on Coach Rueck and his staff to come up with some offensive scheme changes for Colorado and Utah next weekend. They will be needed as well as welcomed.

Wow, I hope the Beav's 3 shot comes back by the end of the week. Lot of open looks that were off. Defense was mostly looking good, but twice they got beat to the basket for an easy lay up.
TJ- Defense keeps getting better. Centering herself against the other player and adjusting to their movement much better. Getting knocked around on offense was throwing her shot off more than usual.
Mik- Mik doing Mik things. Someone sells a shirt with that would make some real money. I'd buy one.
Destiny- Three times at the basket she tried to make the pass when she should have just shot it herself. Think she might be reading the garbage online about how she shoots too much.
KB- Couple of really good assists today. She can pass! Now to just convince her to stop wandering around with the ball so much. And doing better with the 3 ball. If she's open she will shoot, and if not, she doesn't.
Aleah- Two silly turnovers but still doing great on defense.
Kat- She's looking better and better. Moving more freely on defense and offense. Heads up play in general. Great to have her back.
Jas- Glad she got more time on court. Some good passes and some head scratchers. The solid D that I figured she could do before she even arrived in the US.
Maddie and Trish- Both drilled mid range shots as if it was nothin.
Thro and Man- No great moment's that I saw.
AA- Hope she got to go home for the holidays and isn't sick.
If the Beav's are going to do as well in the conference and I'm hoping/expecting they need to hit some open 3's.

What I really liked about Trish’s jumper is that she DIDN’T pass (and I believe the shot clock would have allowed several more passes) - but instead she just squared up and popped. Maybe a tiny peek into what she’ll be during the rest of her OSU years.

On the other hand, today Stanford was down 2 at halftime to UC Davis - a below .500 mid-major.....Cards came back to win by 12..... So winning ugly, not looking sharp, having sub-par performance, not unique to the Beavs..... GO BEAVS !!

Maybe a tiny peek into what she’ll be during the rest of her OSU years. In this, the final non-power conference game before PAC-12 season, there is a comparison that I took a look at (admittedly 'apples to oranges', and a very small sample size) regarding similar circumstances (last freshman 'tune-up' before PAC-12) for Ruth Hamblin - Marie Gulich - Taylor Jones, in their freshman seasons. In the case of the former two, the final non-PAC game was against a powerhouse (Tennessee and Notre Dame), so I looked a week further 'back'. Ruth H: 12/15/2012 v. Loyola Marymount 13 minutes, 5 pts, 5 rebounds, 1 blocked shot. Marie G: 12/20/2014 v. Nevada (UNR) 19 minutes, 4 pts, 6 rebounds, 0 blocked shots. Ruth H. only played 14 minutes in this game. Taylor J: 12/29/2019 v. Cal Bakersfield 28 minutes, 16 pts, 13 rebounds, 6 blocked shots. Taylor made several glaring freshman boo-boos today. The ability for the Beav coaching staff to bring along 'bigs' makes me believe that such errors will greatly diminish with time. I've already admitted 'apples to oranges', and small sample size....but it's still a fun comparison between 3 recent OSU 'bigs', two of whom made WNBA, as they enter their first PAC 12 season.

Didn't get to watch today.
Goodman has scored 21 points in the last 5 games. Huh? Hasn't scored in double figures since the Liberty game in Miami. It looked like there was a conscious effort to get Kat going in Hawaii (it worked), now it's Aleah's turn. Definitely need some offense from her as Pac play is starting.
