What would be a greater feat. Osu winning a national title in baseball in a cold weather location or OSU women's basketball winning a national title under Scott Rueck starting from ground zero when he was hired? Any thoughts.....

The weather is more formidable. But I still want the lady Beavs to win it all, numerous times!

It doesn't rain inside Gill, and they keep it warmer than 45 degrees. Baseball has always been a fair weather sport, played during the warm weather months and, basically, only when it isn't raining. I would have to give the nod to Pat Casey on this one.

I understand the premise as which would be the bigger accomplishment, but having it been done, multiple times it is baseball hands down. WBB... sorry to say getting clobbered in a F4 isn't close... hasn't really much more than sniffed a NC with it's best teams in school history. And... NO... I personally do not see this current edition anywhere near the best team. I'll also see baseball being a much much deeper field than WBB. Once you are in the WBB elite as OSU now is, recruiting narrows considerably for the upper talents and really no one out of the top 4-8 (?) really has a chance at the trophy. Baseball recruiting is far more complex and much tougher, especially considering the talent that goes in MLB drafts. Then you consider the number of teams that are capable of making Omaha and winning it all... a far bigger field than WBB.

base- All of the stuff about baseball and the comparison of difficulty I'd agree with. But why do you always have to pee on the WBB teams Weaties?
"sorry to say getting clobbered in a F4 isn't close" OSU got clobbered by one of the five best teams to ever play WBB and came in 2nd that year. No need to denigrate their accomplishments.
" I personally do not see this current edition anywhere near the best team" Ok, that's your judgement that you are entitled to, but why? So far they have passed all of the tests that they can and have the best start in school history. I think their four guard rotation of Mik, Destiny, Aleah, and Kat is the best in the country. Can you point to a better one? The future will let us know who is right.

People don't realize how far north Corvallis is. Corvallis is 40 miles south of Keizer. The 45th parallel runs down Chemawa Road in Keizer and through Minneapolis, MN. There is a chunk of Canada further south than Corvallis.

Just a fun question. 15 years ago,did anyone think we would have three baseball titles,or nine years ago,did anyone think osu wbb would be in the mix for a national title after LaVonda Wagner ran off virtually the whole team. I just love the success these two programs have had under two class individuals. It gives me hope the sky is the limit under the right coach in any sport at osu.

I will play. I predict a Rose Bowl berth and win for Coach Smith before a WBB national championship.

And who'd have thought OSU's wrestling program would become the disaster it currently is? Per 12/24/19 Intermat Rankings, no (zero, nil, nada) top 20 ranked OSU wrestlers in any of the 10 weight classes. For comparison, Stanford has 5 and ASU has 7. Even Fresno State has 3 top 20 wrestlers, and their program is just starting their 3rd season after being shut down for 12 years.

Can you point to a better one? The future will let us know who is right. So... my post is all my 'judgement'... like most here I posted an opinion, followed by some factual info. Now... not sure if a Xmas tree twig got loose and lodged, but you went completely off the rails insinuating I was disparaging the hoops team. There was in no way shape or form any peeing, or denigration. There was no talk of it being a fluke of a F4 appearance or anything demeaning about my post. IF your team is beaten so very soundly in the semis you are obviously not very close to being at the caliber of team to win a NC at that place and time. Fact... you get to play who is on the schedule, top 5 all time or not. OSU indeed got clobbered. OSU did NOT finish 2nd. If you see an NCAA Runner Up (I think is what they engrave?) hoops trophy in the trophy case let me know. Post season polling means squat... tourney results matter. I never mentioned guards or guard play, so now idea where that portion of your post comes from?! However, you answered your own query. "Why?"... because the guard play isn't everything. The true strength of this team and although talented the Frosh have a long way to go to compete against teams with multiple quality bigs. I'm not trying to be "right", just feel this team is still guard/3 pointer heavy and not very deep inside. At this point in the season even if JM and AA get to play they'll not be in game shape and certainly not use to the competition level they'll face. I'm not sure what the future will tell you... comparing one team to another based on a tournament where match ups mean everything is kinda difficult. But, even though you didn't ask I can cite at least 4 SR teams that were better, well rounded. But... the thread wasn't about this team in particular... hence my reply was somewhat generalized and if reversed wouldn't have been denigrating the baseball team either! Touchy over nothing much?

There is a chunk of Canada further south than Corvallis. That shocked me. Toronto is south of the 45th parallel, I would not have guessed that.

Not sure exactly how it relates to the topic, but some of OSU's best (arguably their best) baseball teams did not win Championships.

Not sure exactly how it relates to the topic, but some of OSU's best (arguably their best) baseball teams did not win Championships. It's always a debatable topic... best talent vs best teams? To me best teams got the NC rings... sort of an easy call for me! The others may have had some bad luck or a bad game, but when it counts the TEAM that's the best comes thru all adversity despite what occurred the rest of the season. Will overcomes skill much of the time. Some teams have both. But, back to the thread... what PC and SR have done is incredible and neither was without some luck and a bunch of external support. I'll also say that I'm not sure any other coach could have done what each has! Sometimes a school just gets lucky and finds a coach that is a perfect fit and given the time it becomes magical.

As for me, more of a casual follower, seems like the 56-6 team and one of Conforto's big seasons the team rolled thru most of the regular season, but the bats went quiet at some point during the playoffs. Certainly Championship #2 was not a particularly dominant team until they got to Omaha and then they were unbeatable. Odd things can happen.
