Taya was not running smoothly when she first ran out. She should not have played at all. The team is really going to miss her rebounding and points.
Team needs to go to the Ionescu school for selling fouls. Mik and Aleah both got hammered hard enough that they both almost got knocked off their feet, while Destiny got yanked hard enough that she got spun around. But they learned from the Gulich school of gritting your teeth and fighting through it. And for those who insist that Mik's nose connecting with someone else's elbow was an innocent exchange? Mik and I disagree with you. In general I thought the ref's did an OK job but the 50/50 calls tended to go to the other team.
The team defense did an OK job. The MS players just kept hitting tough shots.
Team passing was up and down, but got better as the game went along. I think everyone made at least one pass where you just sat there slack jawed wondering how they thought that pass could work.
FT shooting (dreamy smile)
Destiny's only problem is the occasional goofy foul that gets her taken out of the game.
Mik got her well deserved MVP award for the tournament. Enough said.
Jones and Brown are good, but still a work on progress. Those open lay ups need to fall.
Kat seems like she is 80% back. And at 80% she can nail the 3's no problem.
Jas is quietly going about her job. Hope in some easier games coming up she can work on being more aggressive.

I think Destiny is forcing some passes and that she continues to drill in too deep against her defender. She gets to a point where she has no room for a shot or for a clear pass to a teammate. She still managed to hit some shots in the key part of the game - but, she does it In more of a one on one situation. The whole team did a better job of bringing the ball up the floor versus the DePaul game - but, in the first half there were way too many errant entry passes and our two freshmen always seemed to be slightly out of position. Bottom line - great win and great experience for the team to come together at the same time ! Every team member should be proud of their progress and their individual contributions. Go Beavers ...!

OSU switching to a zone defense in the second half made a big difference. OSU was a much better team in the second half. I'm convinced they will go undefeated in the non-conference schedule, including a 10 point + win at Miami in 12 days.

I don’t think for a second that it was unintentional.

The girl was coming down for a rebound. It’s not like she just put her elbow in her grill for no reason.

I don't understand why the attendance was less than 5000 for a Championship game. This is a downer. For the first 4 games last year that didn't include thousands of fans whose voices haven't changed yet, we averaged 4,207; first 4 games this year come in at 4,727. My understanding is that this Thursday's game is a sellout, and so certainly will be the games against Stanford and Oregon. We'll average over 6,000 this year I would expect, versus 5,457 last year. Kind of doubt, by the way, any other school in this tournament would have averaged 4,727 if they had hosted 4 games.

I wasn't sure about the Mik elbow to her nose intentionality, and I sure don't want to see this trio of refs again, but there were a lot of bodies under the hoop. All I know is that she is one of those players that just doesn't seem totally happy unless she's got the most bruises at the end of the game. Incredibly durable.
As for the game, titanic defensive battle. Both teams did themselves proud and imo it was getting Destiny back in the second half after the early foul trouble, and our team's depth, which made the difference.
Missouri got a bit tired, and the Beavs blew up. Went from down by 8 to up by 13 and tho there was no quit, Missouri was too far behind.
I like this team, and between the football game yesterday and the WNIT championship today, my wife and I really got value for our now missing voices.

It’s not like she just put her elbow in her grill for no reason. I’ve played enough to have an educated opinion. The MSU player knew where her elbow was and where Mik’s face was and was not concerned about them being occupying the same space. That is why I use the term “not unintentional”.

On the play where Mik got smacked the Miss. State star player also got drilled on the side of the head.....On replay it looks like the same girl for Miss. State hit both of them - one elbow for each... Did it look that way to anyone else? I'll check the replay on it, but curious if anyone else saw it that way..... GO BEAVS !!

Kennedy took a shot to the face under our basket in the second half and Mik took another shot in the first half. Missouri State players weren't swinging elbows they just allowed their elbows to go out as they brought the ball down. I don't think it was intentional just sloppy.

Mizzou State? A really good team, but NOT a team to merit a large crowd around here. Had it been 'furd, Baylor, uconn, or hole?.... a different story. I'd like to reiterate; that was a good team the Beavs beat today. De Paul too. Both teams we should expect to be in the tourney. Every game should merit a large crowd. So you only see two or three games this year that will draw over 5000? What is the rest of the Pac-12 drawing so far or is everyone just trending down? 4 home games in the span of a week stretches the fanbase. 30,000 people at a football game yesterday even more so - can't imagine many people spent all day on campus yesterday only to head back today. Weekends are short as is.

Aleah set a pre season wnit record with 15 threes. Looks like the old record was 12.
Once again she led the team in minutes played.

Aleah & Mikayla are our steady hands, our rocks. Destiny and Kat are our dynamite. How about Kat hitting 4 x 3-pointers in only her 2nd game back! Tremendous. I was at the game as well, and switching to the zone defense saved our bacon. It totally confused Missouri State for a good while.
I just watched the Stanford-Gonzaga game, and I have to tell you that Missouri State and Gonzaga could both get to the Final 8. And they play each other on December 20. They are both extremely well coached, and I saw no intimidation in any Missouri State players eyes today. I am happy to get these tests on our home court for the young players. When we go on the road, it is going to be different without Beaver Nation.
And the refs today were not good. They had a bad game. Nuff said.
