Except for all the fouls, that was my favorite game this season. Mik is going thru that free throw shooting slump again. Sunday should be another good one.

How bout Aleah? 6 assists/0 turnovers while handling their press. She was a stud tonight.

Didn't like all the turnovers but a much improved effort/result overall compared to Monday night. I'm surprised the attendance is not breaking the 5000 mark. Come on fans fill Gill on Sunday for the WNIT finals and National TV!!!

Well OSU was in the bonus midway thru Q3 and Q4, so either DePaul was fouling all along and not getting called earlier, or they changed strategy to start fouling a bunch in the 2nd half? Wait so being in the bonus early means the refs changed how they called the game? More fouls can be the result of both the offense and defense being more aggressive. Probably more of the former in this half. I thought OSU was far more forceful taking the ball at the defense. More fouls called because there were more aggressive plays, not a reffing issue. IMHO. You’ve never had an IMHO. Please just change it to IMO. You’ve never had a humble opinion in your life.

Simmons had a very good game Agreed. She had some poor turnovers in the first half, but she defended, she rebounded, she made her shots, she looked like a very capable guard off the bench. Very fun to watch, impressive leaper. Corosdale had a rough showing in her first game back. She had some really bad turnovers. She will see a significant drop in minutes, just because Brown and Jones are playing so well. As I’ve said before, Brown’s ability to play with PF and C gives us a lot of versatility.

Agreed on the Corosdale turnovers. But she also showed why she's so critical to the long term success of the Beavers. What did she have, 6-7 rebounds? And rebounds with authority, which the great young bigs are still learning. I didn't see this until the last third of last season, but Corosdale is beginning to remind me of Deven Hunter on the boards.

How bout Aleah? 6 assists/0 turnovers while handling their press. She was a stud tonight. She was the primary point guard tonight. She and Destiny switch off at the three and point but Aleah started the game at the point and played well enough that Rueck let her be. He lets her call a lot of the plays and rarely calls her over to talk it over. Anyone else notice that she was the third captain in the pre game huddle with the refs.

One of the things I like the most about the Frosh is that they are scrappers. They keep trying and trying, even after an oopsie they are still in there working at it. No hanging the head and giving up with these two.
Could grumble about Mik's FT shooting but I know she'd never hear it over her own growls at herself about it.
Half of the TO's were by Taya and Jas who probably got very little practice against that type of defense. The rest of the team actually did very well.
Liked how our bigs were getting down court in time for the fast breaks.
Trish is still the only big who knows how to set a pick. But with 37 pts, 7 blocks, and 17 rebounds combined I'll take what the Frosh can do for now.
Jas is beginning to remind me of Mik with her rebounding and constant hustle.
It was a fun game to watch. Hope I can say that later on Sunday!

Really good type of team/game for this team to see in the preseason! I love how DePaul plays, just relentless. These are the type of games that are really tough on PGs, and requires the entire team to be aware all the type of traps, coming to meet passes aggressively, and responding to the aggression with your own calculated aggressive response.
I thought this game would be a lot closer, as these are type of teams that Rueck teams have had trouble with historically. And, well we did go -14 on TOs. However, in typically Rueck fashion, we go +20% on FG%, and +27% on 3pt FG%. This was a team that is supposed to be a pretty good shooting team, but not against OSU's defense. They did get 14 offensive rebounds and 22 2nd-chance points, which is also a strength of a team so aggressive... meaning it would have been much uglier if they didn't win so many 50/50 balls.
I love how comfortable both Pivec and Goodman are getting with their handles, now in addition to Destiny. Takes a lot of pressure on on one player individually to handle these types of games, unlike what happened to Wiese in earlier years.
Great to have Taya and Kat back. Taya brings another dimension to our versatility. Kat looked like she was really pressing, and understandable. While we enjoy the depth this team has, she's now officially in her last season and watching her minutes getting squeezed by the young talent quickly developing. Simmons in particular is really finding her groove ... if she can get more comfortable getting physical (fighting through screens, seeking contact on drives), she would be a real weapon in this conference with her speed and athleticism. Her TOs weren't good, but I thought this might be a game that suited her style well, and it did indeed at times (e.g. the quick steal and score). I'm sure DePaul would love to have her.
Ironically, it was DePaul that shortened their bench (only 7 players really played much, even with all their foul trouble) - and one player going all 40 mins. Meanwhile, Goodman was max at 31mins for OSU, 8 players in double-digit minutes, and 11 players saw meaningful minutes. Did not expect that at all, and probably contributed to the shooting % delta in our favor.
And Jones ... 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in 20 mins... that's just absurd. I don't expect she'll do that against teams that can match her up better this year, but still, she is just ruthlessly efficient when we figure out how to get her the ball on her spots.
Also nice to see Pivec have a quiet game where she never got her flow going, and we're still able to beat a ranked, storied program by 20+.
We are very spoiled right now.

Aleah was a stud last night--she has a mental toughness like Pivec. One of the more impressive games Aleah, or, any OSU Beaver has had since Mikayla's performance in the Boise State playoff game last season. It was so awesome to have Taya and Kat back last night. When Kat hits that 1st 3, Gill is going to go nuts. Having Taya back is soooooooo important. Gives Rueck tremendous versatility with his post rotation. Taya was rusty, but I'd take a rusty Taya any day. So valuable last night breaking the press and on the boards. The depth OSU displayed last night was a thing of beauty. This team has serious potential. If we stay healthy, it is going to be a magical season.
