A lot of our TOs are caused by a combination of the bigs not pinning the defender well (tough when they are quicker) and the passer not putting the ball where the post is best able to receive it cleanly (Rueck’s “seeing the floor well”). A lot of our passes seemed to be just hopeful throws onto traffic. Those are things we’ve had trouble with in the past, so good teaching g moment early. We did a lot less of that vs team USA, and I think it was the case where it was more clear those passes had no chance. They will against weaker teams, so good to just learn to execute now as if they never will. Other than Marie’s sr year, there’s not an advantage to have the ball fed into the post when they aren’t in good position (at least not yet), so better to be more patient with the ball in the perimeter, IMO.
Pacific also liked to trap in the coffin corner, so that also pit more pressure to force it inside with the perimeter edges cut off. I did like seeing us some skip passes across the top to loosen their defense.
In retrospect, this is going to be a really good film study tape. There were moments when their defense ate us up, other times where we turned their aggression against them for layups.

Destiny seemed to be playing a little too aggressively on the ‘passing’ part of her game. Several other very ‘risky’ passes and ‘three seconds in the key’ calls, hurt the offensive flow. Also, cannot understand how the girl with 32 points could score at will and also under Max pressure. They had some great shooters and some good length. We will see a lot better... but, happy with any win. Mik was out of her mind. She can read the ball off the boards better than anyone I have seen. We are going to miss her after she departs for her next success story. What an athlete and competitor. Love watching her complete game !

It certainly comes from both. Jones and Brown will post and then stop posting before they catch it, and then some passes are forced inside. It’ll get there. We’ll be a much better team when we get Taya back.

Interesting last night that SR chose to defend Brooklyn McDavid straight up, even when it became obvious she was the go-to player for the Tigers, and that she was hot, and that she was not being slowed down with straight up defense. I was wondering if we might consider dropping someone down on her and doubling when she received a pass, or adopt a "someone other that McDavid is going to have to beat us" / stop at all costs approach......but apparently not. Maybe we were so concerned about the other threats that we were OK with her going off and getting her points?
This is similar to how SR seems to be OK leaving his PG bringing the ball up on an island for several possessions before relieving the pressure by keeping additional ball handlers in the back court. Press break doesn't seem to be our thing. Note that this was true even when it was Syd Wiese bringing the ball up - some super quick dynamic tiny guards from USC, UCLA or the like would be licking their chops while Syd would be coming up the court all by her lonesome.... (OK, perhaps I am exaggerating a bit here, but you get my point. And it did seem like it would take several TOs by us before we would alter our ways).
Go Beavers!

The bench had quite a bit of playing time but collectively took only one shot. Pacific seemed to figure this out and frequently double teamed Destiny, Mik, and Aleah. I thought the bench generally played good defense. Does DePaul still play a fast game that would require quite a bit of relief from our bench?

Does DePaul still play a fast game that would require quite a bit of relief from our bench? Haven't watched them, but they've scored 98 and 81 in their 2 games and forced a combined 50 turnovers, so I think the answer is very likely yes. Their coach has been employing that style for a long time, can't imagine he suddenly changed. Beavers need to take better care of the ball against DePaul on Thursday.

In respect to breaking the press, nothing works better than passing the ball. If you have tall post who you can pass to half way up the court it works really well.
As to passing into the post, I had no idea it was being streamed so I watched Monday night football instead. Therefor not seeing the game I really can not evaluate their post passes. However, I have made comments in the past that their post passes need a lot of work. Passing into the post is the hardest pass to make because it not only requires good judgment and timing but also touches. Part of post effectiveness with the ball is not only their position but as early as possible entre pass. If you wait too long you eat up the three seconds allowed and allow the derender time to get help or also move the post player out of position. Or at least affect there footing. This was part of the problem last season. To add to that the most effective passes are touch passes in such a way that they allow only the targeted player to catch them without having to worry about defenders in the passing lane intercepting them.
Grymek was not as bad a post player as the delayed and ineffective post entry passes made her out to be. As I previously stated a post entry pass is the most difficult pass to learn. Most posts are not as quick and mobile as Marie was. You have to see her play in the WNBA to recognize just how much more active she is than most post players. Cal players used to have a heck of a time effectively getting the ball into Anigwe. Last season Goodwin was the only player who was consistently effective. I saw Mannon make a really nice entry pass in one of the earlier games. Of course this season it will be easier due to the more mobile post players on the roster.

I don't know why, but OSU often waits until the day of the game to indicate the game will be streamed. When their website schedule says "listen" but not "watch", don't believe it unless it is game time!

The game Thursday does now say "watch" on the official site, so pretty sure it is good to go.

I was actually looking for an extensive in-depth analysis and numerous insightful comments based on a vast knowledge of WBB, and in particular, DePaul's team.

Helter-skelter speed frazzles the Beavs....It will take them more than a half to figure it out, break it down.....Tied at halftime.... Beavs win by 12 - 15 after they get it sorted out... GO BEAVS !!
