Fans too negative? So you think the Beavers are happy with their overall performance tonight? I sincerely doubt it.

Watched it all from streaming. In California. Not impressed with offense at all. 23 or more turnovers. Poor spacing and confusion on offense. I am amazed we struggle so much against pressure. No excuse for it. Right now they do not play like a top 10 team. DePaul will be a big test. Do not like what I saw tonight. Go ahead and sugarcoat it.

Fans too negative? So you think the Beavers are happy with their overall performance tonight? I sincerely doubt it. Scott Rueck comments (From Ron Callan’s postgame interview): “McDavid made us look terrible” “Our veterans looked young tonight” “People were out of position” “Very poor rebounding effort overall except for Mik” Not to leave the impression that he only roasted his team, he said a number of positive things too - he's a positive guy.

Hopefully that game is out of their system. DePaul will run them off the court if they play like tonight.

Not a stellar team performance, but Pacific had a lot to do with that. They defended really well, challenged positioning and got into passing lanes.
I was really impressed with Kennedy's performance - she had to play a lot of 5 tonight, and she owned it, challenging McDavid, collecting 4 blocks (should have been 5) and generally carried the load of of being the rim protector. The matchups for Morris and Jones were not favorable at all vs. Pacific, and that will happen at times, so great to have Kennedy be able to carry that where Taya pretty had that role alone last year.
Will be interesting to see how they do against UCLA later, and in conference vs. teams like St. Marys, but they look like a team that should win a lot of games.

I'll let the rest of you talk about the bad (and there was some), but I'd like to comment about the good.
I love the minutes Jazz is giving this team. She looks much more comfortable and is playing solid basketball. It would be nice to see her score a bit more.
You could tell at the end of the game the Pacific was tenative about putting the ball up against Kennedy inside. I think it took Kennedy most of the game, but in the end she was really going for the blocks.
Mik. Enough said.
Janassa is playing solid minutes as well. I'm glad she is getting some playing time in her senior season.
Stuff we didn't see.....Taya and Kat. They will make a real difference for this team.
Ok, a couple 'bad' items. Both Taylor and Kennedy were in position for rebounds but more than once, they reacted slowly or didn't grab the ball solidly. That will improve as the season goes along.
Most of the turnovers came from over confidence....at least in my opinion. These girls are talented and think they could get away with passes that they needed to be more careful with. They will learn from this game.

Luckily for us, Val Higgins had an awful shooting night. She would have made for a nice beaver. We will have a solid bench when Taya, Kat, and even Jelena return. I think Jelena will bring a unique look to the team. Not too many players should be able to push her around.

All three guards had a hard time passing in to Jo last season. Many here blamed Jo, and now that the team still has that problem are we still going to blame Jo? Straight passes they can do just fine. But lofting in a pass seems like an impossible task (sigh).
It's strange, but the hype had me believing that Jones was the defensive gem and Brown was the offensive wiz. It's pretty much the opposite. Thank you KB for slowing down McDavid.
We are really missing Taya's rebounding. Mik is going to get beat up if she has to keep getting all of the balls.
Not a great showing, but when the veteran guards needed to come up with something they did.
FT shooting still not very good.
Jas and Jan need to be more self confident about shooting. They are obviously good at it. SHOOT.

Post game presser. SR puts as much positive spin on the game as he could IMO. He avoided repeating some of the negative type comments listed above by Werebeaver.
"It wasn't probably our best effort...Pacific had a lot to do with it..." "We worked hard tonight and I was pleased we found a way to win." "I thought you saw our toughness come out in our team down the stretch." "Tonight it was not one of our better rebounding games. We were undisciplined boxing out. We were undisciplined in our effort attacking the ball..." "Give Pacific a lot of credit. They beat us to a lot of 50-50 balls tonight. They out scrapped us for those balls..." "Give Pacific credit. They did a great job defensively, but at the same time we didn't see the floor very clearly." "They turned us over...hopefully that's the most we have this year." "With the experience that we have we should never have that many turnovers, but give them credit..."

As difficult as it was to see the number of turnovers tonight, there were some real positives:
1. Kennedy's defense at the 5 was very good. She blocked a number of shots, changed a number of shots, and, kept McDavid from getting clean looks when Kennedy was checking McDavid. 2. Taylor and Kennedy having this much PT this early in the season. We will need them come PAC-12 and Tournament time, and we don't want them playing like freshman. 3. Also good for Janessa and Jas to get this PT. Janessa is solid defensively out on the perimeter. Janessa's defense is going to be critical against players like the Hull twins at Stanford. 4. Aleah is growing as a player that we can count on to make plays. Aleah's defense has improved, and, she wants the ball when we need a BIG shot.
Our rotation is going to improve dramatically when we get Taya and Kat back. Depth is important when you get in tough games. We are going to have games like this, and hopefully, we'll clean up the turnovers (many were self inflicted).
