I was hoping for something a bit splashier. I think the trip to Miami will be a nice test, however no big games on the schedule. I was hoping the delay in announcing the calendar would be so a game with the US national team was going to be on the schedule.

Not much there to to catch the eye of the selection committee, unless the WNIT matchups prove to be really attractive. Winning that tournament would be helpful. Other than the WNIT, there's nothing there that will pack the faithful into Gill. Miami's a good test at their place.
Last year, we played CSU Bakersfield in our final pre-conference game on December 29, and beat them 92 - 52. This year, we play CSU Bakersfield in our final pre-conference game on December 29. I suppose it must have something to do with when you can hold practices around Christmas break, but why would the Bakersfield people want give up part of their holiday season to travel 800 miles and get crushed?
The only really positive things I can see about this schedule is that it should afford substantial minutes for our younger players to transition into D1 basketball, and I think there's a real likelihood we'll go through it undefeated.

So from the Pac-12 schools that have announced their non-conference schedules, who might have the toughest opponents?

Toughest opponents in non-conference easy: Stanford
They play Gonzaga, Mississippi State in the Vancouver Showcase (which has ben shifted to Victoria because of lack of corporate sponsors); Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas.....
Now that's a GREAT non-conf. schedule....I'd love it if the Beavs could have signed on with any of those teams.... GO BEAVS !!

Very disappointed in Rueck. I guess he doesn't want his players to enjoy the thrill of victory, or for the fans to enjoy watching games, because there's no thrill in beating a team by 30 or 40 points. He needs to recalibrate his thinking apparatus. If the Ucks can schedule Syracuse, UConn, and Louisville, then there's no reason that we couldn't do the same. Is he afraid of losing? Maybe he takes pleasure in watching his team beat up weaker teams. Or worse, maybe he thinks his players aren't good enough to beat a good team. Why do I make these crazy insinuations? Because I'm hoping someone on his staff will read this and knock some sense into his head.

Stanford's is much better, but OSU does have equivalent teams on their Schedule, BYU did beat Gonzaga three times last year, and Miami I believe is on par with Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas. I do wish we had at least one more tough game, however. Perhaps the championship of the WNIT will provide it.

Well OSU might have been able to travel to a good team or two, but it takes $$ to host big names.
Not sure (don't really care) how the Italy trips are funded, but is it a coincidence both trips were followed pretty weak home schedules?
Although 2015 there was UT at home, ND on the road.

It's past time to start upgrading OOC schedule. OSU is well established. At this point I really doubt it's a problem of not being able to get good teams to play them, it's more a matter of choosing to schedule this way. I don't get it. Actually this year looks like a step backward.

Teams in WNIT: all had winning records last year except Oklahoma.

A contrarian view would say the Pac-12 will give us all the positive RPI fodder and challenges we want.....and as has been pointed out, the newcomers should get extended minutes. As 12 of the 16 teams in the pre-season NIT had a post season last year, perhaps that is the formidable field for the year. That said, we better not stumble in most any of these games (where stumble might not even mean defeat), since if I recall right our RPI didn't necessarily rise after victories in some cases in past seasons early on. Does anyone know or have a good bet whether Nov 21 or Dec 6 is the annual "bring your earplugs" / middle-of-the-day / school kid invasion game? I have to plan that one in advance.....
Go Beavers!

Well, it's certainly not a weekend game; that wouldn't allow our educators to use up 1 (of but 180) days of learning on something other societies might regard as frivolous, so either one of those is a definite possibility.
I actually enjoy that game a lot - just wonder why it can't be scheduled pn something other than a school day.

Pacific, DePaul, Oklahoma (or Boise State or Missouri State), BYU, and Miami is not a terrible schedule -- I do wish we had another Power-5 opponent on it, but it is what it is. If we could replace Utah State, Southern Utah, and Northern Arizona with higher quality mid-majors, or even Power 5s, it would look much better.

After all he really has no idea how to coach or run a successful program.
