Nice quickness and agility. Always hard to judge against level of competition but I doubt any high school clip of Ruth Hamblin would have looked anywhere near as polished. And she was thrown into the fire at OSU as a true Freshman.

And she was thrown into the fire at OSU as a true Freshman. Agreed... but Ruthie was "thrown in" because it was a completely different time in the progression of OSU WBB. At that time she was the best option. Next season that Ruthie may not have been recruited? Or at least would have RS. Nice to see the height on the catch, pass, re-entry... also the competition level doesn't determine the footwork, balance, and court awareness. Thats a move Marie didn't have until her Sr year. Just those two vids say she starts next season.

She loves to dribble in the key before shooting....problem? will they train that out of her ?

I've been watching some games of Jalena since she signed and I have to agree that she is way more polished than Ruth was coming out of high school, but she is going to have to work on her speed and strength to be a force at the Pac12 level. From what I've seen the only thing that Jalena has seen that comes close to the speed of the game here is her time with the Serbian national team. It is going to take some time for her to adjust, and get used to playing faster. That said, she definitely has tools that we haven't seen at OSU from a player her size. When she realizes her potential...wow, look out!
I also expect PM and Mitrovic to share time at the 5 next year, but PM already has played at this level and that matters. I would expect most of the time to go to PM to start with spot duty given to Jalena in a normal set, but I would also not be surprised to see Rueck use Maddie, AA, KB, and even Taya, Janessa or Jones at the 5 depending on who we are playing and what each game might dictate.

Serbia produces some good basketball, the experience on the national team is going to be comparable to working with a middle Division 1 program. You don't want 6' 9" dribbling in the key with 5' 10" guards to undercut her on the first bounce. You just want to be able to lob the ball in at the hoop time after time. She's got really good hands and passing skills that are a plus.

I've never been good at video scouting....But - knowing that others are better at it than I am - I am encouraged by the positive comments on Jalena's game... I was impressed that she handles the ball pretty well by Big Girl standards.
If she can run the floor (remember it took Jo more than a year before she could run the floor in a way that would make Coach happy) she might fit in as a real contributor faster and sooner than was generally thought here on the board...
Now that she has officially signed maybe one of the coaches will offer a more candid assessment of her strengths and more candor in describing her game. GO BEAVS !!

I can tell you this, video of Jelena completely confuses me. Why? Because I've seen enough video of her running the court, and she looks so slow.....then you see moves around the basket, and you see what appears to be quickness. I think 411500 may have hit it on the head. Right now, I'm not sure she has the ability to run the floor the way the coaches will want her too. And, although, we've seen her hit the 3, and make hooks shots, her overall shooting percentage is not outstanding for someone her size versus the competition she plays against. I've also never seen a video of her being able to jump.....but she has size. So....I'm not trying to be negative. I think she has potential written all over her, and I'm not sure she could have chosen a better program to bring that potential to it's fullest outcome. I just don't expect much from her next year, and if everyone is healthy, I still feel she is the best red-shirt candidate.
To be honest, I certainly don't know what I would do with all these 'bigs' next season, so it's going to be interesting to watch what the coaches come up with. I'm higher on Trish than most. I think Kennedy is a bigger version of Taya, so that's where I expect to see her play most of next year. I think Taylor may be the most talented center of all of them, but will she play post or pf? Andrea is a complete mystery, both health wise, and as a player. Does she just play every position?! Then, you still have Maddie in the program, who has started at both PF and Post for the Beavs. Does she get minutes next year? Where does she get those minutes? This past year, Utah had multiple freshman win freshman of the week honors, I'm not sure the Beaver freshman will get enough minutes, but I think several will have a chance to make a difference in some big games.

Jo actully ran the floor pretty well for 6’8”. She lack quickness in the halfcourt. I think at this point, Jelena seems to be the opposite. Even the spin move in the second video is not something Jo had the ability to do in year 2, let alone before she arrived.

Another piece to keep in mind, strait line speed, especially getting up and down the court, can and usually will really improve once you are in a D1 strength and conditioning program. Her strait line speed will really improve, especially with her quickness that she shows in the post.

I think of 6'9" and mobile, with a good spin move and touch ( think Ruth's at uo), and all you need is clear outs and open lanes with a short bounce pass, or a no look penetration pass, and she will be effective. I just don't have any clue what type of offense Scott will design next year to capitalize on the height and many second chance rebounds. I really see the lob as a last resort. One good thing can happen - and three bad things can happen. The good thing is a proper pass and catch with an easy backboard lay in. The three bad things - pass is too short, intercepted, pass is too long , Out of Bounds / turnover, Ball is caught, but defense quickly collapses and denies any passing outlet Of course, there are more - and even some positives. However, what I saw with our BIG last year ( not criticizing ) , is a very low percentage of successful lob plays. If the defense has reasonable size or athleticism / leaping ability - the difficulty of success with the lob goes down dramatically. At the same, I am sure Scott has a plan.

She has hands. She is athletic for a big person. All else is coachable
By the way, I love the wbb recruiting info.

I think we can take advantage of running fresh legs out there at the paint positions next year (assuming we can get the chemistry between all the different permutations/combinations going - Italy is huge this Fall). We also can make life very hard for opposing teams venturing into the paint.....
I hope we play a more aggressive brand of interior D next year. We have been a "finesse D" team these past few years, and we struggle with teams that "rough us up" (ASU, Louisville, USC). But we may have fouls to give, and can really challenge shots inside with all these post players (assuming they all see the floor and some subset doesn't RS). Just the threat of getting swatted or whacked on every shot inside could substantially play on opposing team's minds......and we could be a bit more gambling on the outside D if we knew the paint players were just waiting to clean up a gamble gone awry.
So, excited about the potential offensive upgrade, but also pondering how this might change things on the defensive end as well.
Go Beavers!

I'm still a fan of the hockey line exchange concept. I'm pretty sure if we get the full team into the rotation, we will be a force. Not sure our opponents will enjoy prepping for us when we have so many combinations and a full arsenal. Full Roster this year is:
Guards- MP, AG, DS, KT, JS
"Bigs"- AA, MW, TC, JT, PM, KB, JM, TJ
It's going to be a GREAT year. Go Beavs!
