I still think Patricia Morris has a lot to offer and could have made a difference on Saturday. She should have gotten more minutes earlier in the season. MB.

I agree completely. She has quickness and a nice shot. She was sort of doomed when she had limited playing time earlier in the season. Now it can be argued that she is too inexperienced to play in close crucial games. I am sure that the situation is more complicated than I imagine. If my assessment is correct (a big if) she will be an important (or even huge) contributor next year.

Maddie's problem doesn't require a lot of analysis. She got 3 fouls in 14 minutes. She was taken out when she got her third. I imagine that if Jo had needed a blow, Maddie would have been put back in. Circumstances just didn't warrant it.

I tend to agree that SR had more concerns with Maddie than her fouls in the 2nd half. Regardless, he went with what he thought was our best option. RThis team has a lot of flaws; being able to advance will depend a lot on the opposition being unable to take advantage of them and/or we start shooting much better. Next year's team should be able to eliminate a lot of the current flaws. I see this team as a lot like Baylor last year (with different weaknesses), where it seemed Mullkey knew they didn't have what it takes to be a title contender; this year they have patch that up and are poised to make a solid run.

I would dovetail Maddie's foul trouble with a little "anti-home cooking" we received. Either her second or third foul was on offense, ostensibly a moving screen that looked like a granite statue compared to the swinging gate the Broncos were using in the second half. Some aspects of the game looked a little more like Roller Derby than Basketball. In the past (years past, not so much this year), we might've let that get to us and play the refs rather than the opponent. This year we have done a much better job of playing through (or perhaps with) the way the game is being called. We weathered it and play on...

Her shot wasn't dropping. Did you see your stat line? And her defense for the 14 minutes she was in the game was better than JG's defense. Coach knows best. I'm missing something? She got all her points in the first half of the game. Other than the fast break layup pass from Mik she didn't score again in the second half. She did play good defense in the first half, but as I said they were not really going after her. Once they put the freshman post back in the the second half they began to target her and Scott pulled her out. Then when he put her back in she quickly allowed an open lane to the basket because she became focused on her man turning her back on the play and leaving an open lane for a lay up. Scott pulled her right out. Yes the coach saw the same things i did and that is why he pulled her out. Although she is listed as 6'1" she looked no taller than Kat when standing next to her. She just does not have the height to match up against taller posts. When she is scoring it's still a viable trade of but once she stops it's not. She was no match for their freshman post once she began to work it inside. Funny but it seems that a lot of players on this team seem to play inconsistently on defense. They play well for a while and then all of the sudden lose their focus. When that happens Scott pulls them out. He will do that with anyone. I think Scott is very good at noticing things in respect to his players and substitutes before things get out of hand. Defense has always been my thing and I tend to watch players to see how they play defense. I have been watching the post play more because of the focus on it this season. Even then, sometimes i miss things unless I watch replays. It is very difficult to try to watch too many things all at once. I always used to record games when I used to follow the NBA and is was amazing how on review things often turned out far different than I had originally thought. It's also all too easy to let our fandom influence what we see. Not only back to the play, left a lane for the driver to make a lay up, but compounded the mistake by taking a ticky tack foul (not a "get your money's worth and make sure they don't get the hoop" variety) turning it into an 'and one' play....... That said, Maddie's early energy and contributions in the first half were invaluable. She contributed above average scoring and was aggressive. And while we are down on this team, note that they are actually 1 win ahead of where last year's team was at this same juncture, so quite the coaching achievement for SR in my books given the obvious shortcomings he has worked around. Go Beavers!
