I missed the game. Did Queen Sabrina shove or publicly demean any of her unworthy teammates tonight?

This is why I really don't like conference tournaments - I'm with Lute on this. What was gained out of the tournament for any team? Did Stanford move up to a 1 seed? Probably not. Did Oregon move to a 2 seed? They likely were regardless. Did Oregon State drop to a 4 seed? We'll see, but seems unlikely. I guess it might determine who gets to play in Portland, but is that really that helpful to Stanford?
Meanwhile, Stanford and Oregon both gassed their teams. Sabrina just played 40, 40, and 45 minutes over 3 consecutive nights (with minutes of other starters for both teams not much better) - at the end of a long, very competitive season. Yes, they won't play again until at least Friday, but that is a grind. Today's game in particular brings a lot of fatigue injury risk.
I don't like that OSU bowed out early, but I do really like the extra rest. Unless the loss to UW cost us a chance to host, I see it as a pretty good outcome for getting to the tournament and having some gas left in the tank.

She did an award winning flop ! And was 10-26 FG shooting. I guess that's an improvement over 4-19 vs UCLA. That's the 3rd straight game where she's scoring way under a value of 1 point per shot. If you are a volume shooter and connecting on that few of them, you might need to be the one being yelled at, rather than doing the yelling. If I were Hebard (who is generally really efficient, although Stanford seemed to bottle her up), I'd be telling Sabrina to gmtdb.

Yes, they won't play again until at least Friday, but that is a grind. Friday March 22nd that is. Twelve days from now. Whoops - ok, have my dates off, much bigger deal for the men's game then. Still don't like the injury risk.

Obviously I am in the minority here, but I would not have voted for SI for player of the year this season. Sabrina is a great player, that shouldn't be denied, but if you look at her conference stats this year, they are not overly impressive. Yes, she has a good scoring average, and leads the conference in assist by a wide margin, and she's a good rebounding guard. But, other than assist, there is nothing that stands out to say she was the best this season. If an outsider didn't know who any of the players were, and only judged the player of the year on conference stats, I don't she would have won. Don't get me wrong, stats don't tell the whole story, but they do have meaning.

Kristine Anigwe of Cal should be POY.

Kristine Anigwe of Cal should be POY. You can make the argument for her over Sabrina, but it doesn't strike me as a strong one. Primary, Cal finished 7th, while Sabrina was the best player on the conference-winning team - that always weighs heavily. Anigwe dominated on the boards, but Sabrina dominated in the assist category, and Sabrina was still top 10 in rebounding. Scoring delta between Anigwe and Sabrina was small. Anigwe also was 2nd in blocks, but at 1.7/game, not at a dominating level. Putting it another way - where does Cal finish without Anigwe? Probably another 3-4 spots lower. Where does Oregon finish without Sabrina? Hard to say, but I suspect at least 4 spots lower.

The Player of the Year should be the best player, period, regardless of team and finish. Anigwe averaged 22 points and 16 boards a game. She's the best player in the conference.
If it was called the Most Valuable Player, a different set of criteria would apply, and SI would have a better case. But it's not.

If I am looking at stats alone, there is no way that I could not Vote for Anigwe. How can you not vote for someone who almost has twice as many rebounds as anyone else in the conference, while also averaging over 24 points while shooting over 54%. Her margin of rebounds per game make SI's assist margin seem minuscule. SI's shooting percentage in conference is under 44%, she averaged 5 points less per game than Anigwe, and was 13th in rebounds in conference play (which is good for a guard for sure....not Pivic good, lol, but good). .....but, I will be the first to say that stats don't tell the whole story.

I'd be happy to see SI head to the pros....Found it impressive that 3 of the top 7 projected 1st round draft pics are from Pac-12....
With SI and Maite Corzola (sp) headed to the pros we'll get a much better look at Graves' coaching skills....Everyone knows he's a good coach, but we'll see if he deserves to be considered elite.... GO BEAVS !!
