I've learned a lot from this discussion. For all those who have posted, thank you.

This subject goes beyond sports. At the risk of being misunderstood, I will say that this is more about the needs of the few, outweighing the needs of the many. This discussion exists in uncountable examples in our society. No matter where you stand on any discussion relating to these subjects, it is at least safe to say that the instances of where the needs of the few wins the decision, is growing and has been growing for some time.
Since it is a subject that goes far beyond sport, I don't think this is the forum to grow that discussion. I both understand the reality of allergies and the historical connection of peanuts at a ball game. I personally don't like to just eat peanuts, so it doesn't affect me one way or another.

Except that it very much is the needs of the few, but not exactly the “needs” of the many. Who “needs” to have peanuts or crackerjack at a ballgame? I’m sure that this is a larger issue than just baseball or just sports, but right now, this is where the issue is being played out. Sort of a test case, I bet. If the minor league ballpark has success without too much backlash, I’m sure others will follow.

Yes, lets move this post to another forum that sees fewer views and will just get buried and forgotten. I mean, it's not like a child could die from attending an OSU baseball game where nuts are eaten. But, since you don't eat peanuts, and it doesn't affect you, who cares right?

Thanks for being that guy. I never said I thought it was a bad idea, I never said I agreed with it or disagreed with it. Frankly, I'll not share my actual feelings are on this subject. Good day to you....

Good day to you.... Honest question... What type of response were you looking to get? When you write something like that on a subject that is very serious to a lot of people, and you end it with "doesn't affect me one way or another", that's ignorant. Whether you agree with it or not, that's not the point and not what I was getting at. You already showed what your actual feelings are on the subject.

He isn't allergic to peanuts, and none of his loved ones are either. He isn't directly affected one way or another. Logic vs. Emotion.

My son is very allergic to peanuts. That said, I've probably taken him to 50+ ball games (MLB, Minor, College, HS). All I do if I see someone that is eating peanuts or crackerjacks that is next to us, I politely tell them that my son is allergic to them, but tell them please, do not stop enjoying your snacks, buy more please, I just want you to be aware. I have epi-pens in case some freak thing happens (which it never has). It's what I have to live with and my son (who is 8), is also super aware (probably way more than me). And every time, the people next to me are super cool about it, go about enjoying the game (and their snacks) and make sure their shells or inadvertent debris is away from my kid. And we all live happily ever after. I think it's silly if they ban these, but, my son is not deathly allergic so I don't have that basis of comparison.

I think that this is the perfect place for this topic to be discussed. Sorry to pee on your campfire 42itus, but the juxtaposition of your statement directly under that of someone stating, "I learned a lot from this" is so telling. I get it, you don't want anyone to infringe on your right to do whatever the hell you want, when you want to do it. First they come for your nuts...then its your guns! All it takes is a little knowledge and imparted info making people aware of a situation to avoid a tragic, avoidable, accident from happening. Open lines of communication foster dialogue, create awareness, promote proper peanut enjoyment and everyone lives and goes home happy (with a Beaver win of course). Or...we could all stick our heads in the sand and pretend that everyone is out to get us...or at least our nuts...for now.

Not really. Probably just as far from someone out in right field saying that a baseball fan forum isn't the right place to talk about nut allergies at baseball games.

I’m going to kick myself for trying, and I don’t want to put words in 42’s mouth. However, I think that your response is the perfect example of why he said this probably isn’t the right forum to “grow that discussion”. Then you talk about open lines of communication etc but immediately jump to the gun argument, which of course has nothing to do with this at all, while painting him to be selfish in all his wants. I’d like to know, how do you feel about non-mandatory vaccinations in public schools. Every school you go in to is downright militant about nut allergies. No nuts period! There is what, a very small percentage of kids with the admitted terrible allergy? But if you don’t want to vaccinate your kids against measles, polio, hey! That’s your choice, even though it could affect 100% of other students. Seems radically incongruent to me. Guess I’m a dinosaur.

I will step right into the bear trap because I know that this is not the vaccination forum...but I am for mandatory vaccines. Had to have them when I went to school back in the Stone age. Hell, we had to have a record of them to register at OSU. Just like, "don't drive on the railroad tracks" it's one of the rules I agree with!
